In the video, "Teaching about Nazi Perpetrators" ISHS staff member Dr. Noa Mkayton broaches the difficult subject of the perpetrators in the Holocaust. Ms. Mkayton stresses the dangers in seeing perpetrators purely as other-worldy "monsters". Taking the case study of Paul Salitter, a German Police officer tasked with escorting a transport of some 1,000 Jews to their deaths, we see a fairly ordinary person, oblivious to the moral ramifications of his actions. In examining his depiction of the events, and contrasting it that of a Jewish deportee on that very transport, we hear and feel Salitter's disconnect from the human beings he is helping murder. In confronting the difficult questions arising from this case - questions we can't hope to fully answer - we deepen the debate over these issues, while encouraging students to be more aware of the consequences of their own actions. The materials discussed in this video are available on our website and in teaching units produced at the ISHS.
Dr. Noa Mkayton is a staff member at the International School for Holocaust Studies, Yad Vashem.

This is a living testament how humanity can turn into monsters. We must never forget because history repeats itself.

    Anyone.
Look at what is going on today.

Taking somebody to be torture or killed is against the self interest of any human being.

People like to believe they would have been heroic in such circumstances. That probably would not be the case.

Amidah: This was the prayer of Jewish Resistance during the Holocaust.
The Amidah (Hebrew: תפילת העמידה‎, Tefilat HaAmidah, "The Standing Prayer"), also called the Shmoneh Esreh (שמנה עשרה‎, "The Eighteen", in reference to the original number of constituent blessings: there are now nineteen), is the central prayer of the Jewish liturgy.

Mob mentality, mixed with ample alcohol, I prefer not to consider any person as human, who is capable of torture and death, of any human or social being. They knew what they were doing, hubris and feeling of power, resulted in the Im so lucky and you are not attitiude. Disgusting

You have tried to throw light on how NAZI s tried for elevation in their position by giving example of Saliter. As because my sightl is Poor I couldn't read English sub titles of Testamany given by My Hilda instead interpreted voice would have been be better. Thanq Yad vashem

Mostly, we want cops to do as they're told, not as they choose. She doesn't grapple with the very serious problem of what to do when the social norm endorses an immoral legality -- like today's late term abortion or capital punishment.
