    Note: Beautiful and almost perfect work. We leave the alert for you who do not have professional protective equipment such as glasses, masks (it cannot be any one), gloves etc. The dust produced during the making of this work is dangerous and deadly. Never do this type of work without protection because in a few days you will see the effect of the glass dust entering your nose and also in your throat, causing a groove that can bleed your upper airways. If that same dust hits your lungs, you will need urgent medical attention. This is a warning from someone who wants your good.

      "Crystalline Silica
      Glass is manufactured using sand otherwise known by its chemical name “silica dioxide”, forming two distinct groups of silica, crystalline and amorphous. Although glass is silica, it is not crystalline silica. Crystalline silica in the form of quartz has longterm health risks and can lead to silicosis and other respiratory diseases. The World Health Organization classifies crystalline silica as carcinogenic to any animal or human.
      Amorphous Silica
      However, glass dust is classified as amorphous silica dioxide. This type of silica poses no health risks. Why? Well, during the formation of amorphous silica dioxide, the rate of the cooling process is sped up immensely. This causes the molecules within a given material to have no alignment or arrangement. As a result, the lack of alignment or arrangement reduces the toxicity levels in the materials. In fact, silica is found in foods and drinks today such as water, whole grain bread, beer, and green beans. It is even used to strengthen elastomers in products such as toothpaste, resins, and paints.
      [...]
      Glass dust is not an inhalation hazard; therefore, a respiratory mask is not required."
      From Terrazzco "OSHA Silica Rule: Misconception of Glass Dust"
      I would still wear an ffp1, because its common to have one at hand since covid and its still dust you are emitting, but it does appear not to be as harmful as most think.

    A suggestion to improve the process: With a small paint brush, apply a light oil (e.g. cooking oil, motor oil) to the area that will contact the glass cutter AND dip the glass cutter into the same oil. This should allow the glass cutter wheel to move more freely and not become jambed with tiny glass particles as the bottle is rotated.

    • @leonardleonard890
      @leonardleonard890 2 роки тому +2

      I think this is a joke, that wheel needs to scratch not to glide

      No this is correct. Any light machine oil or wd40 will do. However you can buy cutters that hold the oil in the handle. The wheel is spring loaded and when depressed on the glass supplies a nice thin stream oil. These produce superior scores.

    Take off the cap before, that will give you a smoother result on your cut and a higher success rate. You can hear it pop once it parts in your video this is because when you hit the bottle with hot and cold water you will have a pressure build up inside the bottle with the cap on, if you take the cap off you eliminate this and will get a smoother cut. Try this method and let me know how it goes ;-)

    • @holyfackbud3384
      @holyfackbud3384 7 років тому +1

      no. Heating the bottle causes the glass to expand and then pouring cold water onto it makes the glass shrink suddenly causing the crack to split open. this technique works alot better if you heat both sides of the score line and then pout cold water only onto to side which will be discarded.

    • @seigeengine
      @seigeengine 7 років тому

      Yeah, as mentioned, you are creating a weak point in the glass, and then using temperature changes to stress the glass (via expansion and contraction). If things go well, the glass fails along the weakened line..
      That said, internal pressure would probably make the bottle break more easily, although I don't know if that translates into a more clean break.

    When the bottle breaks at a bad angle , that is most likely because you had a ( Skip ) in that spot when you scored it with the cutter.
    I say this because I worked in a glass shop for 12 years , so I know a little about glass.
    Cool tutorial tho 😎👍🏾

      I have drilled holes in bottles sides , bottoms , necks so I think I know what I said to be true. How many bottles/glass blocks/flat glass have you ever split apart or drilled holes in ? I've done hundreds. And yes splitting one apart is not that big a deal , his cutter ( skipped and he went back and tried to rescore over the same line , sometimes it works , but usually it causes a bad run because glass isn't ment to be scored more than 1 time in the same spot.

    Doesn't matter what shape bottle it is. Fill it with engine oil (new, but cheapest will do) up to the level you require to cut. Plunge in a red-hot poker quickly and (8 times out of 10 - mileage may vary) the bottle will shear at the oil level. A good fine diamond file can tidy up sharp edges.
    Try to ensure oil doesn't touch the sides when you pour (funnel) - important to get level right first time - absolutely no trace of oil above the line.
    I've used this method for years to get vases from bottles.

      OpossumPetya Can you explain how it works? Oil transferring heat better than water?

    • @opossumpetya
      @opossumpetya 7 років тому +3

      yes, oil will heat up instantly, but you need to shock the glass only in one place, so you only need oil in the place where you want to "cut" the glass. and because oil will float on top of water you can use water to bring oil to the needed place. and for better results (for faster heating of oil, to have better shock) use wide piece of metal, like thick razor blade, or similar shape piece of metal.. once heated touch the oil with flat side of the metal piece.

      Tip: You can just use a hose clamp as a guide. Just make sure the band is wider than the adjustment drive or use another band without the drive and tighten down with one that still has the drive.
      Another technique is to use a hose clamp and score all along the bottle except the part where the worm drive is and then readjust the band so you can score the rest.
      Finally, I skip the water step, I use a Lazy Susan turn table and spin the bottle while precisely hitting the score line with micro-torch. It's a lot faster.
      The sandpaper starting with a rough grit covers a multitude of sins.

    Excelente, super buen video. Ví muchos videos similares y este es el mejor, porque el corte queda bastante recto. Intentaré hacerlo en una botella circular. Gracias, saludos desde Chile.

    You could attach a string to the top piece and wear it like a birthday hat.

      Дмитрий Староверов Almost the same. It is more complicated and difficult. round bottles do not face uneven cuts!

      You can make a different type jig for round bottles, one that allows you to spin the bottle in place while holding the cutter steady. The rest of the process is pretty much the same tho.

    Thank you... made it look so easy. Great tip about single scoring glass. I have double scored on plastics, but only with a straight edge. Glass not so forgiving. Cut, sand, done.

    Hi this time I will show how to Cut Square Glass Bottle In 3 SIMPLE STEPS (keep the last three words in mind):
    Step 1: Find a glass bottle
    Step 2: Create a Simple 2 piece jig
    Step 3: Find a workbench clamp
    Step 4: Use the bench clamp to clamp the jig to a worktable
    Step 5: Start cutting!
    Step 6: Start Boiling water
    Step 7: Wait for the water to Boil
    Step 8: Pour the hot boiled water onto the glass cuts (over a bucket;)
    Step 9: Take a bottle of cold water and pour it on the glass cuts immediately
    Step 10: Might not work...so keep pouring!
    Step 11: Doesn't really cut straight (might not cut all the way, give a little tap to finish the process)
    Step 12: Start to sand your glass now, so that you don't go to the hospital with a finger missing or a torn lip ;)
    Step 13: Try to find something to do with this whiskey bottle!
    Wow, that sounds like way more than 3 steps... Phew, clickbaits are always there!

    I’m wondering about a thicker bottle, like Patron tequila bottle. Will same method work for it? Thank you!
