In school days say around 60 years back we were using a very simple, easy and fast way for bottle cutting without any tool. Take the bottle fill it with cold water to the height at which bottle is to be cut. At this point tie a ribbon of cloth soaked in kerosin or diesel. Now light it soon bottle will cut at desired point. Now u can make the cut surface smooth simply rubbing on stone floor.
My first bottle cutting glass was a 'Schweppes' using diamond-point cutter guided by school. Although I knew your method that time, I failed many times may be it's too difficult for a 9 year's old boy to handle it.
Same here and use very very very cold water but we used twinle ropes Some bottles are more easier than others. Also bud bottle are more easier to round the edges than other beer bottles.
I've got a collection of 1930's Popular Science magazines. They talk about putting used motor oil in the bottle and stuff two insulated battery cables into the oil. Ends exposed of course. You can tilt the bottle any way you want for special effect. They used a knife switch. The glass popped cleanly in seconds.
@@darrinvickers5949 Omg, you rattled a cage. My vegomatic never worked. More smashed tomatoes than I care to count. Ronco was infomercial king back then.
In the 70s we were making our own glasses from coke bottles, With a piece of oiled down string that we would light on fire, And a bucket of ice water... Oh, Is and emery cloth afterwards.
The bottle was split in half after one minute fireing but the edge is uneven and I have the impression that it also cracked above the Heineken mark lengthwise and the inscription is partially burnt black. Later probably another bottle is being polished. The movie shows that it is possible but probably the heating time is too long and the heat spreads sideways, causing the crack not even. I had idea to scrach botle by some glass cutter first to initiate the crack than to cool down botle in the freezer to -30°C than putt half of it to boiling oil to cause thermal stress around scrached line with high gradient. But I am afraid it may result in splashes of hot oil and glass crumbs so I never tried.
the heat can also explode the bottle. since it might have some tiny fractures you cant see. which is why even if you use a tool, not every bottle ends up being cut correctly. in other words, this is extremely dangerous and you risk being showered by tiny pieces of glass all over your face and arms.
You don’t explain it correctly. I ended up needing 100 glasses for a wedding. After about 14 beers I forgot what I was doing. This would continue every time I’d re start the project. I ended up with over 120 cases of beer and a failed marriage
В моем детстве это делали с помощью толстой нитки, пропитанной горючей жидкостью. Я это узнал, когда был во втором классе. Выше писали про веревку, что сути не меняет.
I used to do that with a piece of brown sting back in the old days. Socked in alcohol, wrap it light it and dump it in a bucket of cold water :) Win some loose some lol
Good video editing. The rubber bands were at the top edge of the logo. When the wet cloth came off it was cut around .75" above the cut. Again good editing.
@lbeau061 yeah, no kidding. My laughing emoji suggested my comment was a joke. The lower portion of a beer bottle wasn't meant to be the gift. The top portion was. Lol.
Thanks for the tip. It really seems like it's a great, simple, easy way to cut any glass bottle you may have around the house. And, you don't really need the grinder, you could just do it with sandpaper and step down in grit size and roughness. No, it's pretty cool.

Sounds like an interesting trick, but I am visually impaired so I have no idea what it is. It would’ve been nice to have some narration. Thanks Ray from Canada.
Basically he put 2 rubber bands around the top of the wide part of the beer bottle with a small space between them. Then he put some alcohol based hand sanitizer in that gap he created and lit it on fire. Then he rotated the flaming bottle around and around in his hands and finally wrapped a rolled towel around the fire part, pushed gently and the bottle separated into two pieces. Then he just sanded it a bit to smooth it out.
You can grow plants in them, just water, plant cuttings and some liquid fertilizer once in a while. After cutting the bottle, I guess you could also use them as a pen stand, spoon/fork stand, maybe cut the bottle really low to create a small bowl of sorts and use them to store rubber bands/paper clips etc. Hope that helped
They’ve sold bottle cutting kits since around the 70’s or you could make your own with a cutter. This is too dangerous. Some of that hand sanitizer can be more volatile than what you used and explode.
In Borneo, the indigenous people had used the techniques since rubber plantation introduced to the island, sometimes in 1940s. But, they used cloth soak in gasoline, burn the cloth, then soak in water (in basin). I used to do it when I was primary school, 1980s, now I am 55 years old.
