    As a fan I adore the film, I can totally see how a non fan would have issues.

    Dude, this is SOLID. I would consider myself a long time fan of the series, so a lot of these issues weren't actually apparent to me when I went to watch the movie because I was pretty primed on a lot of the major lore beats.
    Being able to hear the thoughts of someone who is coming from a completely raw, unfamiliar perspective on the franchise makes it really clear why a lot of the critics don't like this movie.
    On the one hand, I think they actually did a really good job at creating a film that uses the major beats of the original story to tell a new story worthy of the big screen. But I neglected to realize that a lot of the things that are "obvious" to longtime fans aren't gonna even make sense or be impactful for non-fans.
    I do gotta say, Abby drawing the new picture was kind of dumb. Woulda maybe been better to just have her contact the spirits through one of Mike's dreams (so the audience fears that she's been killed, only to reveal that's part of her powers or something)
    Great review, very fair and excellent points!

    • @MaryDKidd
      @MaryDKidd Рік тому +1

      yeah that drawing being the problem solving thingamagick was pretty dumb xD it came out of nowhere, maybe they could have shown some effects the drawing can have on those animatronic's behaviuour or something before dumping the whole.. they just follow blindly what the drawing depict, some foreshadowing could have make it all better :v

    • @TracksWithDax
      @TracksWithDax Рік тому +1

      @MaryDKidd right! I mean don't get me wrong - they do set the precedent within the world that Abby and her drawings can be used to communicate with the spirits, that's shown.
      I think my biggest issue is, why did it need to be pinned to the bulletin board to work? Lol seems incredibly random...

    • @MaryDKidd
      @MaryDKidd Рік тому +1

      @@TracksWithDax of course it's shown, but they didnt used them to somehow control or change their behaviour with them, maybe they could have shown abby drawing them all a happy family with Mike and animatronics, so that they could play happily with no worries about them turning against them or something, i don't know just throwing crazy ideas xD then Abby says.. they believe what's in the drawings pinned in this board, and then it would have make more sense that final resolution... Or just commenting something about the happy Bunny drawing like.. they believe this Bunny guy is their friend but i don't know who that is. XD whatever would have been better than what we get to be honest ahhaha

    The easter eggs were great to see everywhere and the movie was a fun little romp for someone familiar with everything the games have to offer. That being said, the movie, as a whole, is average, at best, and I don't get why the audience score is so high.

    About Vanessa later saying she'll shoot Mike after she was happy before.
    When Mike told Vanessa he was trying to get Abby to talk to the spirits for him, Vanessa knew William would find out what he's trying to do and that would put Abby at risk, therefore not wanting her to come back.

    You're the 3rd person ive watched talk about this video, and you're the only one so far who understood that the pills were to help him have a more vivid dream of that day to help him remember the details he forgot. Others think it was because that day gave him PTSD and he needed them to sleep BECAUSE he kept dreaming about that day. They clearly didn't pay attention to the movie and ultimately didn't understand that plot line. Can aleady tell that you're giving this movie a fair shot.

      I'm surprised to hear that. I guess they saw the pills and the dream theory book as separate. The dialogue in the film in my opinion wasn't subtle with Mike using the pills to have a more vivid dream. I appreciate you giving the video a fair shot.

I like how they did the Easter eggs and tried to fit big/recognizable stuff into one movie and it was alright but it was more for fan service and it felt like another one of thoes "Hollywood" type of movies, if you catch my drift. But I do like it I just... I don't know.)

    I agree, been a fan around the fnaf4 era, and the movie was personally "meh" for me, although i would say it would have gotten a harsher reaction from me if it where intended to be a one-off movie, but given there is a planned trilogy as the goal, im looking forward to these adaptations to being a decent to great trilogy rather than a bunch of less than mediocre movies, it had also seemed to be written by scott himself from what i heard, with him denying several screen plays before, as he said in one of his reddit posts two years ago, including a funny "plushies take Manhattan" plot. im not certain how writing scripts work, nor how new scott was to writting his first movie (if he did), so that also makes me a bit more lenient on this movie as i kinda see it as scotts first script (edit: another neat thinh is scott uses criticism to somewhat model the next installment, such as fnaf 4 being made cause "fnaf 3 wasnt scary" and fnaf 3 being rather easy because fnaf 2 was extremely tedious to win, what im saying is i look forward to see if scott is listening to only the fans' criticisms, or if he's also paying attention to the critics and general audience as well)

    I would have loved it if they actually made the movie scarier. I would have no issues with the animatronics becoming friendly if they were give ample time to be scary first.
    To kill two birds with one stone and make them scary AND more like in the games, I think we shouldn't have SEEN them kill the burglars and we shouldn't have seen them MOVE at all.
    Let me explain.
    Mike comes in to the abandoned pizzeria and sees old screepy animatronics standing still on the stage. Not scary yet.
    When the burglars come, they split up, and suddenly we see one of the animatronics right behind burglar #1.
    A scene later we see his mutilated, murdered corpse.
    Then a scene later we amp the tension, Bonnie is right behind the guy in the closet, we only see Bonnie standing there creepily, stsring dead eyes, and then a shot of the bloody hand smearing the door window.
    The point being, we don't see thje animatronics move at all yet.
    So when Mike comes and one suddenly appears behind him, it's spooky, unsettling. But then it moves
    We lose our shit
    It starts chasing him (a quick glance) and mike runs away and closes the blast door
    then when abby comes the tension would be much higher I imagine, and we would actually get to see the iconic doors, maybe even a 10 minute sequence of looking at the cameras and avoiding death, or maybe that happening when he's looking for abby
    another upside would be that cupcake being able to move wouldn't be revealed so early. Because it was, it was trested more like a joke whenever it happened.
    Now imagine if it wasn't revealed earlier, and the animatronics were introduced that way. The everstill cupcake suddenly jumping out at the screen would be terrifying because you'd never expect it
    Sure it would be goofy after a while but that's why they shouldn't have overused it, once or twice would have been enough (and Mike's leg not being permamently damaged by the fucking cupcake's razor sharp metal teeth gnawing on it is ludicrous, he wouldn't be able to walk)
    Because the cupcake ultimately became a joke and as a result of it all the movie didn't
    really have effective jumpscares, apart from the comic relief balloon boy.

    I really wish I could see the film as a non Fnaf fan because as a fan, I automatically fill in the gaps with what I already know, watch it multiple times and watch theory and explination videos. But as a non fan, you tend to just watch it the once and only look for answers by theorists if you want to. With the Fnaf lore being so compliacted, fans are used to looking at theories to fill in the blanks but non fans aren't. So I can totally see where non fans are coming from but I can't help but get a little annoyed thinking "well this point can be explained by this" and "if you watch the film more than once and try to connect the dots then you'll see that this = this" and I feel so bad! When watching films, you want the story to be told. You just wanna sit back, relax, not having to think much and enjoy the film. I really wish the film could've been made for and enjoyed by casual viewers and I'm sorry it wasn't. Hopefully the next film will be enjoyed by both fans and non fans.

    personally the movie doesnt even feel like fnaf, its like miles away from the actual lore (vanessa isnt the daughter of afton,ect), and it also seems like its a story about mike trying to find out his brothers kidnapping instead of anything fnaf related, and also the animatronics were way to passive, and aftons "I always come back" is just terrible

  • @abbeyredits

    For the points about William's name change & the drawing being what makes the kids realize William is the bad one, these are both main points of the fnaf books. There's a lot of fnaf books, but the ones those points are in are from the Silver Eyes trilogy. Actually, a lot of the moments from the books were adapted to the movie which was a pleasantly unexpected surprise for me, but I can see how it's confusing for people who know nothing & even for other fans who may not have read the books. Neither of these things happen in the games & it does kind of make me wonder why they chose to stick closer to the book lore rather than the game lore for a lot of scenes. As for the phrase “I always come back”, this is something William often says in-game after taking out the player. I think the reason they had him say it at the point he did in the movie was because he already knew that he would come back since the children did whilst they were stuffed into suits. I do think it would've made more sense to have William say the line after the confrontation though, during the scene when he's in the backroom. For Golden Freddy, I wish they'd made it a bit more apparent that that was him, but it is a separate animatronic/kid & definitely a weirder one too. It almost acts as a hallucination of some kind during the first couple games especially & overall is kind of a rouge element. I think they should've expanded a bit more on him for the movie though, because I think even fans were confused by it. It's really really hard to tell that he's golden in the lighting they had him in so I can see why so many people didn't understand what was happening there. For deeper character explanation on him, though, don't ask me 😭 While I am a long-time fan of the series, I still don't know all the lore on him in particular so I can't say anything for certain. It is commonly believed that Golden Freddy is possessed by two spirits though, so many people have speculated that it's the blonde kid & also Garrett which I think could be an interesting tie-in. I hope this helps clear up at least a small bit of what you mentioned. I can 100% see where you're coming from though! I personally was giddy from all the little easter eggs sprinkled throughout, but there are parts of the movie that leave me wanting more. I wish the focus was more on the events of the pizzeria as well, but after waiting for this for 8 years, I'll take whatever I can get 🙏 It was a fun time & I can't wait to see what they'll do for the sequel. I am hoping they improve on some of the more glaring issues this one had & I think they will! The game's creator has always been pretty good about actively listening to criticism, so that puts me at ease quite a bit! Really enjoyed this video! It's nice to see someone actually providing constructive reasons why they disliked the film rather than people just being like “it's shit LOL” so thank you for that :)

      from a fan's perspective, what's there to hate? I genuinely feel like if you're upset with it as an adaptation of FNAF, you prolly had too high expectations for the film. It did overall a pretty good job of exploring the basic concept of the first game, along with the general lore surrounding only said first game, which I think is a good idea. While I agree, yeah the movie tended to not be all that scary, that's kinda it....... (also no, the fort scene doesn't prove anything, I'm a firm believer that anyone who states the fort scene made the movie worse, clearly didn't bother paying that much attention)

    I think the main problem in this film is... as a horror movie or whatever xD it fails because it kills its tension everytime it can build it up, it can be goofy at times if it wants, but keep the tension so the audience can take the threat those animatronics pose seriously, like, what if when they were playing with the brothers and vanessa, they still acted somewhat hostile, maybe keep them inhuman by making their eyes shine and make jerky sudden and predatory movements, just a little details here and there, they could still act friendly but with those elements present, we audience would be unconfortable and keep our reserves about them becoming all too friendly, but well, the creator wanted this like that so he must know what he was aiming for i guess xD

    I'm not the only one who thought it was weird that Abby was so cold and rude to Mike! Thank you!
    Why she was cold to him is never explained. Is it because they siblings? Siblings who are in drastically different places in their lives? The trauma surrounding the family (death of Garrett which she knew about because their parents did tell her, their mother dying, and their father abadoning them)? Mike, like you said, being a strict guardian? Never made sense to me.
    Also, I've been a fan of the series since I was 21, so I came out of that theatre ecstatic and hyped from all the fanservice (and some elements in the movie that I could use to solve the games' story). Finally glad to see a live action springlock failure! 😭
    But, I also said, "Yeah, I loved it but I can see why the critics don't really like the movie."
    And yeah, Mike and Abby's relationship reminded me alot of the main duo's in MThreeGan, a guardian who is trying their hardest to care for their charge despite knowing themself that they aren't the best equipped to do so. And, honestly, MThreeGan did it better and that hurts my opnion of the FNAF movie a bit.
    And I really think we should have gotten a deeper look into Mike and Garrett's bond before his kidnapping to give more emotional weight to Mike's trauma, guilt, desire to care for Abby despite knowing he's not the best, and, most importantly, his inital decision to give Abby over to the spirits to stay in the dream world where his brother is alive/keep the memory of him being around. They must have been tighter than bark on a tree if Mike was willing to give over Abby like he did. All those scenes where he kept have the same dream (including that damn close up of the soda spilling and soaking into the wood) could have given more and more insight into their bond as he continued to have them.
    Overall, loved the movie! Could have been better. 7/10.

      Firstly, the jumpscares isn't what FNAF is known for. Yes it absolutely was a big part in making the franchise so popular, but 100%, the main one thing that really made so many people fans, was the lore and story. Which is luckily something that the movie tends to focus on a lot. The film having very little jumpscares is anything but a problem

    Very fair review covering Good AND Bad; well done! Also you are the first to mention the bad marketing. Since the movie was PG-13, it relied on jumpscares, but virtually all were milked by the trailers so there were no more scary surprises left, only backstory. That had me enter the movie with the wrong expectations. I still enjoyed the movie tremendously, but was somewhat disappointed due to the trailers misleading me.

    Disagree- FNAF fans usually progress from enjoyment of gameplay to love of the lore. This movie was very enjoyable from a story perspective. The Sixth Sense didn’t have too many “jump scares”, but the tone of the movie kept it creepy. FNAF kept the tight feel- upbeat and almost comical, but you’re one step away from death.

      FNaF lacked any tension or creepiness. Sixth Sense was PG-13 too but had a much better presented story, characters, and creepy atmosphere.
      FNaF could have been way better, both for fans and non-fans. It could have been a movie that made people into fans of the franchise instead what we got

    • @TheChrispy771
      @TheChrispy771 Рік тому

      @@N.i.E.M.O I can agree the sixth sense outdid FNAF on creepiness- the “realization” moments in the film were very chilling. Idk much out there that can compete with it.
      But I did care about the buildup between Mike and Animatronics/ghost kids, or when Abby was being led away to her death/spring lock suit. The movie was definitely more of a story with horror elements rather than a horror movie- but I kinda feel like that’s what FNAF became- very lore driven where the community is trying to piece together the puzzle.
      100% could have done more for horror- I think they wanted us to have compassion on the animatronics, and fear + compassion are hard to keep together.

    • @TheSourcePlug
      @TheSourcePlug  Рік тому +2

      When I started watching more FNAF videos I noticed that as well. It started becoming less about gameplay and more the background lore. I think the lore wasn't necessarily the problem with the movie, but I think a lot of non-fans didn't understand how the world of FNAF works. Which caused unexplained points in the film to hurt the overall story.
      My interpretation of FNAF (which is limited) is a FNAF movie is at its best when the tone and atmosphere is ominous, almost claustrophobic when your in the pizzeria. Even with PG-13, that level of tension can be present. I have hope that the sequel brings more of that. I appreciate your feedback!
