Demonic constultation will for ever be my favourite card. Simple because no one in my play area saw it's power when it came out. It was really easy to trade for a playset because ppl just saw it as a card that could lose you the game. But for me it was the card that made me win my first tournament. Having my opponent laugh in my face for removing all but 2 cards from my libary. Only to realise that the drainlife i just totured up was in fact straight up lethal was a great moment
52:07 I think if Fastbond was changed to a Legendary Enchantment and read, "You may play any number of lands on each your turns. Whenever you play a land, if it wasn't the first land you played this turn, put an erosion counter on Fastbond, then take damage equal to the number of erosion counters on Fastbond.", that could be a way of balancing it. It'd still be very strong, but only for a handful of lands and it wouldn't go infinite.
I know I'm a little late to this, but you would want to keep it as a non-legendary, that way the erosion counters couldn't be reset by just playing a second copy and sacrificing the first one due to the legend rule. Even if with that, your proposed version is still way too good for anything like modern since you could have 4 lands in play fairly easily on t1, and legacy lands might still break this version of the card.
Lurrus is really easy to fix to be unbanned. Change its ability to let you cast *any* spell from your graveyard with mana value 2 or less (maybe adding language about using finality counters/exiling instants and sorceries upon resolution if need be), and change the Companion restriction to require all NONLAND cards in your deck to be less than 3 mana value. If you're voluntarily giving up the ability to play any free interaction in your deck (outside of possibly Daze) AND announcing it to your opponent before the game even starts, I think that's perfectly reasonable.
I played from 1999-2007 and I've played against every single card in the first 40 minutes in a tournament setting. the relevance of these old cards in older play can't be understated. I lost a tourney to chaos orb once. it happens in the early 2000s I played a 2x2 teams format tournament at my local card shop regularly... I played a deck that included 1 channel cause it was restricted then. it was a life gain combo deck though, so, only so useful. crucible of worlds, zuran orb, fastbond.
I can see why Shahrazad is banned from tournament play, but I still think its a really cool and flavorful card that perfectly fits the character that it represents. I think it would be really cool to build a deck around that 1 card and play it against a friend who's never seen it before.
believe me, no... it isnt... we had a player use a sherazard deck in a casual multiplayer game... which lead in everyone focussing the sherazard olayer to not play a subgame in a subgame... and after the subgame, fokus him again, finishing him off... this card is mostly annoying and time wasting... which is sad, becourse the idea is neat, but the execution makes it one of the most annoying cards ever printed... especially as the subgame can take fucking long, for almost no impact on the main game...
23:26 "You should be more like your old man, and look at the blight side of life. I didn't say bright... I said BLIGHT. My life is sunny and blight. Bright means the opposite, it means sudden, withering death."
Lovely video. Just a brief bit of feedback. I have never hear Necropotenc pronouncd, "Nec-rop-ot-ence". Instead, "Nec-ro-po-tence". As in, you know, the potency of necro.
@kharkarus I don't think it's for engagement, I think he's just unfamiliar. The person reading the script is a yugioh player that hired someone to research and write mtg content. He just gets sent a script to read. To my knowledge, he doesn't play any magic so it makes sense he's unfamiliar and just guesses wrong
Imperial seal is from the 3 kingdoms set that had “horsemanship” for evasion instead of flying. I used to own it, but it got all torn up and destroyed by my nephews.
I have to disagree on oath I think it would be too strong for legacy. It’s a really good combo and it’s so minimal it can slot into already powerful control shells. I don’t think it would be crazy but I suspect it would be close to the best deck in the game. I’m not a legacy expert though so take my opinion with a grain of salt.
100% agreed it would be tier 0: Oath is just a much better Show and Tell and what he said about doomsday makes zero sense Doomsday does better in vintage than legacy because recall and lotus, anyone can see that
I love cats. Been trying to make a cat deck forever in magic. The fact that Lurrus cane out and then got banned is quite depressing. Most cat cards in card games get banned. Smh
There is no way in hell balance could ever be unbanned. Its literally just a one sided wraith in creatureless decks and for 2 freaking mana. If you can make them discard a single card or sac a single land in addition to that effect then the payoff is absolutely astronomical.
Mental misstep ever being printed is mind blowing to me. We already have known that free counters is really good for years, even when they take two cards from hand. A counter spell that just straight up costs zero? What were they thinking? Even if it only counters half a deck and not every important card your opponent has, that is still half a deck it can counter
Mental misstep was in the same standard rotation as glistener elf (a good 1-drop you need to deal with), delver of secrets (same as glistener), all the swords, incredible creatures like huntmaster of the fells, the original liliana, all of the titans. It was a reasonable card in standard; while legacy, vintage, and modern are 1-drop heavy, standard aint.
@@chrisreeves3991 well sure, deathrite shaman wasnt even that good in standard as well, though i would even argue that was way more understandable printing than another free counter spell.
Iona was banned so that they could unban painters servant and not have it lock out entire tables... because when painters servant enters the battlefield you choose a color and everything becomes the chosen color... lands, cards on field, cards in hand, etc. So iona was banned so the lockout combo wouldn't just be a stall combo...
Also, there's not a chance Flash could be unbanned. Ex. Flash in Atraxa/Griselbrand. Huge card advantage. Let creature die. Shallow Grave/Reanimate creature. Win. That's not even the WORST thing Flash could do.
As a primarily Blue, or Blue+ player, when I play, it's too bad how many of the cards on this list are Blue. Certainly, every other color is here somewhere, but Blue seems to dominate, just as it would in game, I guess, if most of these cards weren't banned. So, I do understand why Tolarian Academy is banned; I have a friend who runs Urza, LHA, in Commander, and basically making every Artifact Mox Sapphire is cheese, but there are times where I just feel like they don't want Blue to ramp AT ALL. There used to be bad Blue creatures that forced you to even ruin your curve by eating your Islands, and sending them back to hand, but Green is basically cart blanche ramp, and in formats like Commander, land destruction is, we'll say, frowned upon, despite every Green, or Green+ deck doing a fair bit of ramping ahead. I'm obviously wrong that Blue doesn't ramp, and it is the color of several effects that are probably why it at least ramps less, but how does Blue ramp competitively? Maybe not the place to ask, but maybe dome rover through the comments will still answer?
Channel, oath, balance and library could be unbanned? This is some kind of prank? Or the video was made when you were drunk? They all are completely broken If there was a 1 mana win the game card: TheManaLogs - “could be unbanned, current combos are much more efficient” -

Well, you pronounce Omnipotence "om-NIP-uh-tence," it's not that weird to apply the same logic to Necropotence.
He also said Narset Partner of Veils. Running theory is that it’s just engagement bait, it’s pretty strange. But I guess I fell for it 🤷♂️
