Btw Pat Regigigas isn't a restricted legendary, so you can run him in formats where Pokemon like Calyrex are banned. Also they forgot that Defence Curl also doubles the power of Ice Ball.
Stockpile and spitup are hitting the Sleep meta 😂 idk what they'll turn into. I think the first mainline game based move in Sleep. Ready for Mimikyu berry burst
@ 15:41: Regigigas isn't a restricted legendary, it was allowed two rulesets ago (Reg F). It just isn't allowed now in Reg H because no legendary, mythical, or Paradox Pokemon are allowed.
23:44 Orbeetle is actually based on a British wasp that mind controls Ladybugs to guard their eggs and then has its babies eat them. He just looks like a ladybug because it’s a husk he inhabits
OKAY, I WAS GONNA SAY- Lockstin says it in himself, it's based on the ladybug and the wasp combined. I mean, any way you look at it, it doesn't have a wasp association, but it influencing the design, that I can believe. And then you add the radar, the ufo, the evil scientist with a giant brain and crazy technology..... All of these things combined, it's a fucking amazing design... Which just so happens to have a little bit of an extra sauce if that theory is true too, but yeah
25:10 not Blissey, but Chansey is called Lucky in Japanese, yes. You should look at gen 1 Japanese names, you'll be surprised at how much better most of the English localization names were lol
Oh man the Wii game shown in the Plus and Minus bit brings me back. I used to have that game and play it a lot with my brother. We did not have Internet or any other big Pokemon game so we only had the in-game pokemons.
I have actually used defense curl rollout combo in some nuzlockes, a lot of rock gyms start with a super weak mon with almost 0 stab moves. Spam curl, than roll.
I'll never understand how GF develops a game almost exclusively around 1v1 combat. But for their competitive scene these use double battles. Making many moves and abilities useless during normal game play. Also lowers interests in the competitive scene, giving rise to an unofficial league based around the normal 1v1 gameplay of the game. Seems like a great idea....
I honestly wish plusle and minun had their abilities swapped with their hidden abilities. Plus and Minus being their hidden ability would let them be much more sneaky options by making strange combos possible (due to easy access to lightning rod or volt absorb instead). While folks generally have negative opinions towards scarlet/violet, one thing they did was show cool ways doubles could work in the dlc. The very first mandatory battle in the second dlc, for instance, is against a plusle and minun that have volt absorb and lightning rod, respectively, and both just spam discharge, an AoE move that powers up the partner with volt absorb, while doing no damage to the one with lightning rod, and if you KO one of them then the trainer swaps into a Pokemon whose typing counters most mons you’d use against plusle or minun while also _still_ being immune to the aoe Discharge spam (Excadrill, a ground/steel type who is insanely fast and hits hard). How Ironic. Plusle and Minun’s potential is held back by Plus and Minus.
You just broke my brain with the Sonic car thing because I used to do that ALL the time as a kid and I've never heard of anyone else doing it before, such a specific thing I thought only my brain did
07:00 That's because you fight Plusle and Minun in the early game, that's all. Mar's Purugly also feels like a fucking beast in the first time you fight her, but evolve your mons fully and suddenly it's nothing special anymore, yeah? Same thing really
They could always just modify dream eater to have a chance to confuse while awake, and only drain health when asleep. That way it still works thematically.
1:50 thinking about it, I don’t think I’ve ever heard of a Pokémon move that calculates as if you have a higher speed stat, rather than just being a priority move, as like a kind of weaker version of priority.
I like the weird strategies. I had a love of fun with my hypno in fire red: Hypnosis, nightmare, dream eater and metronome. Would spam Hypnosis and nightmare, and if my life is low -> Dream eater, if not, metronome
The Pledges and various other things are really fun to mess around with, with friends. i think not all of these were mean to be serious for like competitive and stuff. For example, in Gen 5 only, there was a game mode for wifi battles that allowed you to use items like a revive in battle. There was a point system that accumulated through certain actions each turn, which was really fun. Like waaaaay more fun that i ever had in competitive and i still play comp today. it would never get used in serious battle but i don't think it was meant to be. Rotation and Triple battle allowed for various fun battles then they got rid of it too...i miss when they added fun stuff like that. in Triple battles also Pledges had another affect that only triggers in Triples.
Regigigas deserves a new ability. Kyogre and groudon have the same total stats and have op abilities. It doesnt even have to be a good ability just give it pressure or something
I mean if plus and minus was given to something like Latios and Latias it might see use it’s really something that only works on Pokemon who would be good without an ability so it’s just a nice plus
Plus and minus might have been bad at the beginning, but in gen 6 I had a team with klinklang and ampharos with those abilities both with magnetic flux, and getting +2 def and spdef in both your pokmeon in one turn was insanely fun. And then gear up from klinklang made it funnier. All for a final mega evolution on ampharos and gear shift on klinklang to finally sweep
Nahh I'm convinced skill swap and truant combo is op in doubles, I remember the mayor boss in colleseum doing it me and I'm getting wrecked 😭 i was a kid tho 😂
Regarding the doubles abilities, Reciever(passimian) is niche but pretty good when used right. Example: There’s a fight in Run&Bun with passimian next to a lvl 1 Marill with Huge power and Misty Explosion to pass Huge Power to Passimian
dream eater would be decent if the damage was just way higher. The effect is situational but does have a place in both 1v1s and 2v2s. It just doesn't do enough to validate any strategy that relies on it (edit: oh wrong one, I thought of the ability darkrai has. Point still stands though, maybe dream eater would have some niche use if it was more than barely stronger than the option that always works) ...and yeah plus and minus could have maybe done something (not really) if they wren't electric types. I looooove having two electric types out at the same time in a world where earthquake exists
I got Slaking to work with moderate success in gen VI triples but it required and unorthodox build that invested points invested in defense along with an assult vest plus screen support from Espeon. Its moves were Hammer Arm, Rock Slide, Earthquake, and Retaliate. Kecleon was chosen as the skill swapper because it was bulky with only one weakness, and could take advantage of last resort when it was done with all of it's substitute > skill swap > thunder wave shenanigans. Florges would heal Slaking with Wish if things got shaky and Greninja and Probopass were just there for coverage purposes. Slaking would consistently take out 3-4 pokemon on its own and whether the match was won depended on how well the remaining pokemon could deal with Florges, and Probopass. I wish I could say Greninja helped more but it turns out that he's a bit too frail to last long in triples.
Fun tidbit about the beginning (0:50) and the mention of Sejun Park's team at (9:07) but Sejun did use telepathy gardevoir next to earthquake chomp on his worlds team ... so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I think that I only ever used the pledge moves in Black and White and I genuinely don't know if the effects of combining them were around in that generation. I have no recollection of the game saying the secondary effects.
Plus and Minus could be made good. "Increases speed in electric terrain. Doubles Sp. Atk. when the opposite is on the field and charges up electric moves."
"Electric-type attacks deal double damage against Steel when this pokemon is in battle. Doubles Sp.Atk when Plus/Minus is on the field." is another viable alternative. Since it's a global effect, it gives the pika-clones, which are cheerleaders, more ability to cheer on their allies.
8:15 That's exactly the reason why I dislike people saying Choice items give a +1 Boost. Or that Huge Power is a +2 Boost. No they're not. It's easy to explain it that way but it's just confusing even further. Another interesting term is 4x weakness. No it's not. It's a double weakness. Weakness: 2x damage therefore Double Weakness: 4x damage. I know "4x Weakness" actually refers to the damage multiplier but it just feels wrong to me to see/hear it like that, since technically a 4x Weakness would be x16 damage. Like a Tar Shotted Alolan Sandslash, that has also been affected by Forest's Curse. That's a 4x Weakness. ....yes I know, before anyone says it: 🤓🤓
Defense Curl should also boost Special Defense since you can't hear the disappointment from others lol. But seriously it would make it a more useful move without breaking things for early game pokemon.
Pokemon Colosseum and XD made maaaany strats that are good in Casual and learning. People said that BDSP are hard due to many gyms and E4 and Barry uses STRATEGIES
Intended Strategies for Dreameater might be giving it to your Drowzee as soon as you learn Cut in a gen 1 playthrough, which seems plenty viable to me.
I wanna know how he feels about so many people pointing out that Regigigas isn't a restricted legend but just a normal one and thus is allowed in formats where mons like Calyrex and Miraidon are banned.
For one of my Reg H teams I ran a Neutralizing Gas team. The main reason was I had a Miraidon with Ability Shield (this was so I didn't have to worry about Rillaboom or Indeedee overriding my terrain). However, I also had a choice band Regigigas which could one--shot almost anything in the game with Crush Grip or Rock Slide for spread (plus Drain Punch and Knock Off for coverage). Often I would just lead Regigigas and sweep without even needing Miraidon, so yeah, it's pretty good without its ability.
3:37 idk if it’s mentioned or if it counts but for about the good part of the last decade I’ve wondered why do rock types like geodude learn mud sport?
