More videos teaching mechanical skills, please. I love this. Thank you so much. We see many videos on other subjects but too few demonstrating important mechanical skills and creative management solutions. Dr. Yin, thank you for taking the time to make your videos.
For people with disabilities or who just cannot move fast or lack the coordination to have perfect technique we may have to modify what they do. ultimately they can do ok but they require more training trials in order for the dog to learn what they want-especially in distracting situations.
As long as the owner is aware that their technique may be slowing down the dog's learning and are happy with the speed at which their dog is learning, then this is fine. If they would like their dog to learn faster then they need to improve their technique and work more on their timing, shaping steps, rate of reinforcement, body posture and position, etc. To read the blog that explains this in more detail go to the link in the video description.
How in the world am I suppose to deliver the treat to a 4 lb. dog without bending over???? No way can I squat all the way down and then stand back up with my bad knees. I always bend over to deliver the treat and my dogs are learning just fine.
