    These codes should be available to and serviceable by everyone who owns a modestly priced scanner. We need manufacturers to be more forthcoming here in UK/Europe as they have to be in the USA. It is a bloody extorsion racket!

    A few years I found a simple car radio / player which was a perfect fit to the styling of my Citroen XM’s dashboard (switches had the same shape, etc.). There was an original radio for the XM but that still only had a cassetteplayer slot (remember those?) at best combined with an expensive CD rack in the booth. The one I found was from a Peugeot (surprise, surprise). Guess what happened. Yep, no way to wake it up. Had to bring it back to the breakers who luckily obliged me by taking it back. Who actually needs all this (beep)?

    They get sneakier and sneakier. I thought it was illegal to prevent access to vehicle diagnostics. Just shows how much i know these days 🥴 My car is VW group 2014 so ive not fallen in this trap. No codes anyway...so far, but service reminders of course..like..now 😁 Thanks for that Neil.

      They still have their UDS protocol which isnt availible on all scantools. That's bitch when you actually have a VAG specific software and it still doesnt work.

      I have VCDS, it seems to give complete access to all the modules and diagnostic codes. Used that software for several Audi/VW cars I have owned. This Ross-Tech software allows a lot more access and options for configuration of the individual ECUs that control all the functions.

      @@bruceharkness4497 Yes vcds will work but it's a little bit pricy for the unlimited license when you don't work with vag cars professionally. I have another VAG specific software. To be honest we had VAG oem kit at my school and it some times was a bitch that required mor than 2 days of a vag technicians time to get it to work to. I hope to get vcds for modern cars soon I have the older version and hac no complaints about that.

    Its just a fact that manufacturers make limited money from the actual sale of a car. Its aftercare where the big bucks are made. This is just part of that. How dare the consumer take a hand in aspects of their own vehicle. Its almost as if you dont actually own it anymore

    Where did you find this one pin connectors on the car. I have never seen it on Fiat.
    Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the videos. I only regret that I'm not there to help you.

    Great video! Thank you Neil! Warranty-wise, is having one of these installed going to cause issues if an FCA dealer sees it?

    0:00 Unfortunately the gateway is there for safety of people while they're driving their cars. The issue stellantis and other manufacturers were having without them is that vehicles could be hacked while driving via Bluetooth on certain modules. As you could imagine the newer alfas and 500e where they have brake by wire and electric steering this could be controlled by somebody outside the car potentially, and that is why the gateway was put on so nothing could communicate certian commands or information on the can network. Now however I don't think the aftermarket should have to pay to gain access but I completely understand why it was implemented.

    • @marzocchi705
      @marzocchi705 Місяць тому +1

      Perhaps they should have fixed that issue rather than being anti-consumer.

    • @HonchHeado
      @HonchHeado Місяць тому

      If it was for safety they wouldn't charge you for it and you would have to have a BT or wifi odb connector connected to it while driving. It is a scam.

      So you are telling me that they have recalled and retrofitted this to every car vulnerable to this nonexistent hack on the road then .

    • @HonchHeado
      @HonchHeado Місяць тому

      @@michaeloconnor7849 Umm no they put it in the new ones you can always use A new ECU and mess with it if you know what you are doing in old ones. But they did this with wiring harness to the new models. Just like FB put end to end encryption saying its for your privacy then all your messages to someone for 7 years are deleted. You can never get it back. Just like the jap bike makers agreed on 300kmh max it starts shutting down the first cylinder so you can't go faster, don't even need to mess with ECU simple wiring harness hack. But the new ones, need to re code the ecu.

    I wonder what use for this could be, other than disabling independent shops like yours to properly work on cars. Sure if you're a dodgy dealer you can just clear the codes and sell the car, but the issue would come back for sure.

      From next year it will be built in to the BCM so will need yet another way to do it yet again.

    I hate the fact that companies (video games, programmes, movies, music as well) just hinder you from fully owning anything. If I own a car then it's my foggin car and I do whatever I want to it. The EU should ban those methods. You shouldn't be banned from accessing your own property. Imagine you would have to pay to open up the fuse box in your own house!

    I mean for coding stuff I guess they’re justified, but for resetting fault codes, I mean that’s ani right to repair

  • @Rayfaedundee
    @Rayfaedundee Місяць тому

    It’s the way car manufacturers are all going now. The reason car manufacturers put this security gate way on the cars diagnostic system is to stop garages from accessing the vehicles ECU to do service lights, fault codes on every system on the vehicle. Also it’s so car owners can’t do system deletes like EGR, DPF deletes, and other systems on vehicles to cure or bypass faults without renewing parts on vehicles. So every manufacturer now asks garages to pay a subscription with a code to allow you access to do even the simplest of jobs like a service light, or want you to go to your main dealer to pay their over the top expensive charges just to plug in their diagnostic computer..
