thanks Neil at Italia Autos.
That is an amazing survivor considering it's 19 years old. And the fact that it's still standard is a nice touch too
That's a lovely 156 indeed. Not many as good as this one left, even here in Italy.
Nice car but that hideous tail would have to go.
Thanks Neil, great video - you did a great job, the engine is purring like a pussy cat (with an Alfa bark!). Parts all ordered to fully refresh the suspension, brakes etc and those bloody cheap tyres! then clean up and rust proof the underside. The aim is to get it as good as possible and enjoy it and tuck it away with the GTV you kindly sorted for the winter. Keep up the good work 😀
Glad you liked it. It's a great car and I'm sure it will be perfect soon.
Stunning survivor , well worth looking after .
Love these and that spoiler looks so good
I love a 156, this looks a nice one. One of my V6’s had the Recaro seats and I literally could not get comfortable in them!
Very, very nice. My Sportwagon was Stromboli grey, which I think is a little darker than this - but the car suits silvers/gunmetals very well indeed.
I agree with you there- then again I would !
My ideal car is a V6 Sportswagon. But sadly here in Australia there seems to be only 'Q' auto sedans generally available.
The Q boxes are pretty good.
Crosswaggon was my pick but euro only.
Nice 156
All 4 wheel arch liners should come off really, I removed them on my car recently and the rust in the upper reaches of inside the arches is scary. Nothing has compromised the suspension turrets yet and I've since treated them.... My car is also an original exterior and facelifted interior, frankly after 7 years I don't like the seats (mine are the same as this one). I'd much prefer the original momo leather that my old original 156 came in. The bigger seats aren't that comfortable and they look generic whereas the momo look stylish and very Italian...
Nice one Neil. That 156 looks like a good one.
It was very nice indeed
Maybe one of the best in UK. In Croatia I know a few in much better condition including mine.
I got a 19 year old 156 with almost zero rust due to being in warm weather for most of it's life. I did have to grind down some rust in one of the water flaps.
Is it worthwhile closing those water flaps on the bottom for good?
Neil are you hiring?
Beautiful car, it really deserves some good protection against further rust!
It looks to me, like the owner has a great investment there. The ultimate V6, completely original, just waiting for the value of these to go skyrocketing. There is a 1.8, that someone spent way over 10 grand restoring and sold for 10 grand. Tell him about that car, because he'll have a lot of fun in this, and get his money spent improving it back, with interest. If I win the lottery I know where you both are 😂
Not many cars on the road as nice looking as the 156.
Bravo! I have the same colour but mine is a manual V6 Sportwagon on 80k miles and 21 years old next month!
I reckon mine is the best in the UK right now with the upgrades on her...KW Clubsport coilovers, Eibach arb's, Quaife diff, Brembo/Mito qv, brakes, GTA Teledials, Wizard exhaust, zero rust and fully protected. Completely neutral handling and one of the finest engines ever produced make it the bargain of the century for me...
Squirel... just for that you get a like from me 😊
Very rare 156 Alfa love it..👍🇲🇰
Love these. Drove one for many years.
Lovely condition
I still miss my 156!
I always freak out when I see rust on a car on UA-cam.
I live in Las Vegas, Nevada and we don't get rust. We don't get rain, snow or salt on the road either. Lol
That car is a great spec and very good condition considering it’s no show pony. I has a v6 lusso, put the Brembo GT brakes on it as the std weren’t up to the same level as the engine. Glorious sound especially when you put a Supersprint back box on…
I have a q system V6 here in New Zealand with 120000 kms on it and its a great option . Only 4 speeds but because you can rev the engine high you don’t notice you only have 4 speeds . Mine is like new underneath but the sun has ruined the silver paint on the bonnet and roof . Loads of great upgrade options too even now. I grabbed a Sportiva Eibach springs and Bilstein shockers kit and it’s transformed the cars handling . Great video and lovely to a survivor on UK roads .
I also have Q system 2.5 in Croatia, 195k km, 21 year, and still running great. Underside and suspension in much better condition then this one, looks like British weather is really killing them.
Always huge smile on my face when i see you have uploaded new vid. I wish i was closer to you, would 100% gave you my lovely 159 for servicing ❤
What's the perceived wisdom on sorting the "sticky rubber" parts?
You had the crank pulley also lying under the water pump one.. looks like the rubber deteriorated. currently on the hunt for one, they're impossible to find :/
Another very interesting vid 👍 Glad you highlighted the ditch-finder tyres, they have no place on a car like this (or most others for that matter)
Any car, really.
The tyres are the only connection to the road.
Never ever skim on those.
I find it baffling that people do, and buy some useless accessory instead.
They are definitely going, once I’ve finished with the suspension refresh - I don’t get the mentality of fitting cheap, cheap tyres. Mind you the previous owner didn’t really drive it, just stuck tyres on to get it through an MOT and then tuck it back into storage.
@@jeffb9010 Thanks. That explains that. 👍🏻
I work on these Alfa 147, 156, 166, GTV, 1.6 TS,1.8 TS, 2.0 TS, 3.0 V6 and the 3.2 V6, the 1.9 and 2.4 JTDM Diesel, the JTS versions (terrible engine) and the newer Guillietta and Guilia cars everyday. .. the V6 cam belt is a great job to do.
Love it. I really need an Alfa in my life🥰
Liked the seal pic. Reminds me of Lord Muck videos👍😂
Absolute belter that gotta be one of the best ones Neil has shown us 👍👍
Thanks for the tip with cleaning details of the interior with nail polish remover. Tried a lot of fluids, but never succeeded. Best Regards from Sweden!
The owner is hated by everyone, his family, neighbours and all the rest who get even close to his car. I know from experience. :)
I am new here and love this channel. What i whas wondering that every time i see the underside off a car the black underlayment is hiding so much rust and peel off, is it not better to use a underlayment wich is transparant so you can see if there is any rust undegrowing ? I now that some new car are having some sort off wax that is transparant. Is it possible to do that with older cars after a restoration ? Greets from The Netherlands where cars also rust.....
Its ok looking.Overall I've got 156 two weeks ago with only 60k on the clock. It looks waay nicer than car in the video. It drives like new.The only thing I need to do is brakes.
Alfa are such amazing cars but realy all alfas a seen in uk country in general have much more rust underneth because of the weather in uk alot rain and freezing per years . In italy a seen fiat 500 first edition old one they still drivin with no rust 👍
Neil need help wher can i order washer nozzle for alfa 156 ?
Stunning car!
Love those seats. Missed out on an interior for mine way back. Still annoyed now.
Thanks for the video👍The door rear corners sitting a little proud like that is the correct fitment, they must be installed like that.
Remarkable condition, all things considered.
Stitch in time for this one. An absolute classic.
Lovely condition on top, but always surprises me how the underside gets neglected. A quick spray of waxoyl or similar would have stopped all that surface rust.
I've used Lanoguard on my 916 GTV soaks in to every nook and cranny. So easy to use and apply. It's so water repellent too.
Did I see seals lol! Nice one Neil!
A one year on update and I still have the 156 - The budget tyres have since been replaced with Bridgestones, The rear shocks replaced and yes it was a pig to get those long bolts out - hours of fun - not! Drop links front and back and I removed the rear anti roll bar to clean up an paint and replaced the bushes (Need to lightly drill out the bracket first to separate - surprisingly easy) Front tie rods replaced and drop links and lower wishbone arms. Front shocks were OK for now. Cleaned up underneath and treated with Lanoguard. 4 wheel alignment done and aircon regassed and she is driving very sweetly. Thanks again Neil for doing the cam belt service.
Wow that long already. Glad it's going well.
@@ItaliaAutos Thanks Neil and time flies when you are having fun. Keep up the good work on the videos - always a pleasure to watch😀
Cheers Bud
I'd pay anything to have the car my dad had when I was a kid! An Alfa 156 (diesel) earlier generation to this one with wood interior details and the GTA style wing like on this one.
I have the same one with 70 k miles /no spoiler but wood steering and sunroof and bose in silver met. I have done sills and one badge at the floor. Love to drive her every day in the sommer.
This one has no dents - i like al lot. Don´t like the spoiler. I have the 17 Dial Rims from the GTV
Hi Mike - I must admit I'm still not sure of the big spoiler but I'm learning to live with it and let the engine win me over!
@@jeffb9010 Take a look at the wheel housings, there is also rust..
@@mikegattereder7502 I will going through and treating the underneath, unfortunately rust is a common problem on older cars here, even BMW's!
I used to love my 156 Veloce, running a Giulia Veloce now, just one issue with the infotainment screen started to delaminate, but changed on warranty, so all good
Looking at the type of rust, it appears the car has been in storage in a damp room.
I would report that to the customer.
The squirrel reminded me of the time one ran into our office. I can still hear the screams..... 🤣😄
Wouldn't mind that myself, great video Neil.
never by an alfa at face value/price until you look underneath
Inside edge of the front brake discs look knackered
rust from storage, comes off with driving(hard breaking)
@@maartenyzer4121 not in all cases. When a disc is that corroded the metallurgy of the metal has changed and nothing will clear it up. They usually need changing.
@@rezaq1 my wife drives short distances inside rotors rust
Then once a year to the moutains high up
After that no rust on the inside
Anymore
Lovely motor
Great car but bad rust, why cars get so much rust in england? My 156 has zero rust.
Rains so frequently & roads salted during winter, which lasts 11 months....
