If you look back, Haughey didn't have long tenures as Taoiseach. From Dec 1979 - June 1981, Feb 1982 - Nov 1982 and then Feb 1987 - Jan 1992. Barely 7 years in office, but the Irish people think he was Taoiseach from 1979 - 1992.
He was already a flawed pedigree and short spells suited his corruption deals they were hidden from within his own party and so well covered up of course he was helped and shielded by padraig flynn John Wilson and several other men in the party but pee flynn was the daddy of cover ups and he definitely should have been jailed his reputation is now ripped to pieces all because of his corrupt secrets..the opposition bench never detected anything untoward them untill the end of the Haughey flynn years ...shit hit the fan on the famous and now legendary interview with flynn on the late late show this took flynn down like a ton of stones it was beautiful to watch and brilliantly executed. Its all star 🌟 viewing to this day..
As a proud British man, I have studied Irish political history, and to my own personal view I would say Sean Lemass was probably the best Fianna Fail Taoiseach and Garret Fitzgerald was the best Fine Gael Taoiseach. Am I wrong? Any Irish people on here can let me know what they feel.
That fanatic who says history will be kind to haughey-what a joke!! Also said he couldn't understand why he'd be more remembered for his crimes than achievements-simply they are bigger! Haughey rotted politics in Ireland.
He did a lot of good things for the country but he did leave the door open for too many sleeveens to enter and stick their noses into the national trough and I am talking about all parties .
On balance history looking back will say he was pivotal in growing the nation's future in education and financial services.........yes he was not perfect ..... but who is in this mad mad world
never seen this, great upload.

Just curious like what good things he did for the country? He was great for himself!!!
