FYI: both wheels do not have to be off the ground, just the one being worked on. Just put shift in neutral and spin hub into the desired position. Always use wheel chocks and park brake on unleveled ground.
He has 4x4. Not a 2wd
@@FirstNameLastName-sb8ch Still, that drive system is selectable.
@@FirstNameLastName-sb8ch WITHOUT POSI TRACK DOES NOT MATTER
I'll try that, that slipped my mind. I'm just so used to keeping it in park I guess. It's front wheel drive, so park doesn't help with both drive wheels off the ground anyway. Thanks!
What year caravan
This is awesome...
My wheel fell off after I parked my truck yesterday.
Five minutes before---I was driving to work going 85 mph.... And four out of five of the studs broke completely off!!!
Luckkkkyyy!! Great video!!!
Holy sh******t!
I have 3 broken studs on a 14 mustang gt, and you might not wanna guess what speeds I got up too. Definitely someone watching over me 🙏
Lol just happened to me like 5 mins ago I’m stranded atm lol fuck fords 🥲
Happened to me today. It's a mixture of Chinese parts and tire shops over torque the nuts.
@@someguy9778 I’m here because a discount tire shop torqued mine to like 200. I’m 6’ 165 and had to use my full weight on a 4’ breaker bar just to get them started. Was supposed to be a simple brake pad replacement and now I don’t have a truck for at least a couple days.
This video saved me time and frustration. Very knowledgeable thanks for sharing. Cheers!
Saved you money actually
Literally doing this today. Thank you for saving me whatever this might have cost from a mechanic.

I actually had a different problem but nevertheless this is good info.
I replaced a control arm and carelessly replaced the shock on uneven ground when the arm was on and snapped one of the studs welded to the arm that anchors the shock to the arm with a nut. Now the shock is being held by a single stud and the spring drags a bit when I hit a bump so I'm trying to figure out how to replace the broken stud without taking the control arm off and needing to weld. I'm probably going to have to drill the old stud and make a hole just big enough to tightly pull the new stud through since the spring is in the way and I can't pound it through the control arm.
It's all fun and games until you realize the parking break also has to come off. All those springs and clips will drive you mad.
Happens 2 the best of us
Gotta say.."THANK you sir!"
Just yesterday during the routine morning drive, the front left wheel began making a.."initially", fairly quiet & rather subtle.. persistent intermittent thumping/vibration.
Which quickly became a very obvious, steering wheel jerking...LOUD & distinct, audible thumping to accompany the ever increasing "wobble".
So..got the mini-van home, put'er up on the jack-stands, & began looking for the culprit.
And..YUP..not 1..but, TWO lug bolts/studs, had broken completely off, & the remaing 3 lug nuts were beginning to loosen.
SO...went to You-Tube, & found.."your" video on the exact problem that had befallen my Grand Caravan.
It was short..concise, and..PREcise. Direct & right to the point.."This, is WHAT it is..&..THIS, is how ya fix it..& well..there ya go..badda bing, badda bang, badda boom. Took me less than 1 hour to knock out the 2 broken studs and replace them with new ones.
Your video is greatly appreciated.👍👍👍👍👍
Glad I could help!
Literally reading this right now because two of the studs on my grand caravan have snapped off. 😳
I just found out the other day my 2003 chevy trailblazer broke four lug stufs
Where u get the boltsv
@@Dragon-hu7pt I..myself, got my replacement bolts from our local Auto-Zone store. If not Auto-Zone then perhaps Napa or Oreileys might have them in stock..or may have to order them from their main distribution center.
Looks like I'll be doing this tomorrow. I had a lugnut shatter in pieces - apparently they are just cheap pot metal wrapped around there V. Your comment on using quality replacement lug nuts would have saved me a lot of time and stress 😂
They are like "Chinese Finger Traps" for your wheels. Once on, they never come off. I have a bag full of these stud busters if you want them.
@@DIYBenzGarage Well I give up. I went 1 size smaller (18mm) and hammered on an extractor and then proceeded to snap the head off my 1/2" breaker bar. I fished the little piece out and then put an impact wrench and snapped the impact rated adapter. I have no idea how the tire shop got this lug on so tight. I don't know what do to other than take it to my mechanic.
@@shaunsmith9526 Front or rear? The rear lugs seem to be a higher grade of steel. I use a Harbor Freight 1/2 in 2ft breaker bar & I have stood on it with both feet & bounced up and down, it never broke! You could try heating it with a torch carefully and take another breaker bar to it maybe, also penetrating oil soaked overnight. They have always snapped off (too) easily for me.
Very helpful thank you
Thank you, this is very helpful!
You’re welcome buddy
Thank you for this. Other videos of Dodge front wheel stud replacement were showing removal of the drive shaft and such. I need to do a read one as well.
With the rear you will need to deal with the drum brake assembly or parking brake (for rear disk) in the way. I'm pretty sure the sweet spot is on the bottom, and you may not need to remove the parking brake, everything comes out on drum. The other problem is the hub will spin if you try to crank the new stud into place by hand. If you have an impact wrench, use that instead. If you don't. I have lowered the hub down onto a wood 4x4 to immobilize it successfully.
@@DIYBenzGarage Thanks. I really appreciate it.
@@DIYBenzGarage Great job. I lost the lug nut security key on my '18 Pacifica so I have to actually drill out all 4 studs on the 4 different rims now. will all the lug nuts remove and install this same way when I replace the 4 new ones? Ty..
@@seatime674 Rear is more complex, you have to remove the parking brakes or drum brakes and you will need an impact wrench to seat the stud.
@@DIYBenzGarage Okay thanks, after talking to 4 Ford dealerships and 20 different places nobody could help me so I rolled into a particular Ford dealership and they had a big suitcase of master key so I got them off thank God!!!!
Saved me 2 years after the video thanks bud
Worked like a dream thank you bro
Wow! It's that easy!!!??? 😮 💪 Thanks dude!
My lug stud can’t come out because something is behind it. So I think I’m gonna have to remove the whole wheel hub
Thanks mate
Good job bro
Is the back wheel stud, same way replaceable?
(@ 1:01) There is mention of a difference between front and rear lug studs. I'm finding replacement lug studs are M12 x 1.5 but the knurled diameter is .040" larger than the holes in the rear wheel flanges. Is this the difference you mention between front and rear lug studs?
Yep, that's it.
Thanks!
Try Mcgard lug nuts they are the best won't rust, chip or peel
You just answered my question to what I need to grab in the morning
Glad to help!
Just happened to me today while changing the tires on a toyota didn't even get to torque it up to more than 30nm and snap and the bolt had rust inside the breaking point guess it was doomed to fail
And exactly the same lug nut whit stripped treats
Hi bro,
No need at all to take anything off.
Turn the broken stud in front of the long gap in the protection plate.
Tap it out hard
Turn it to the hole of the brake sensor, put the stus a little in place.
Turn it back to the gap push it in with your finger, use the bolt to pull it back in and done.
Greetings!
For photos send me a pm
What if the stud spins. Am I able to replace it with a new stud or do I need to replace the whole axle?
The stud turns instead of being secure in the hub? Sounds like it was previously replace with the wrong size stud.
Just had that happen to me right today. I've got 10 new studs on order and I'm going to see if I can't swap them all out because I also have to do brakes and rotors.... The hubs are fine. Cvs need changing but that's an extra couple hundred dollars
If you have an pneumatic impact wrench you can use that to seat the stud in the hub instead of a ratchet. It's a whole lot quicker & easier. Impact is a must on the rear hubs since there is nothing to stop the hub from turning.
“Front and back”
What you working on guy?
any one do this on a 1991 style S10 4x4?
Where do you find those nuts from when you tighten the wheel stud down??
The one I use as a spacer is just a regular nut from the hardware store. I took the stud to the store and picked out a nut the stud would pass through loosely. Then you need a open end lug nut from an auto parts store. The closed acorn nuts are too short.
What would make them all snap off? Someone losing them? They just don't all break at once. Right?
Once one breaks, the others break more easily
@@danielbruno1718 The guy went to prison for doing it. Survalence camera from the neighbors got him. Thank you though.
@@thenewamerica6606 that's crazy.
This video has been helping me though. I'm a tourist stranded in the middle of Texas because of snapped wheel studs 🤦🏽♂️
@@danielbruno1718 They sell the rotor with lugnuts attached for 108$
@@thenewamerica6606 I'm lucky I was able to park at a parking lot where there is an O'Reilly store and a harbor freight.
I think I got it all fixed now. Getting the brake caliper out was hard, screws were so tight 😆
What should I do with a broken truck wheel stud? :/ :? its old truck trailer as well :/ problem is the hub isn't like the hub you showed in the video... Because its an old truck hub, where the studs are as ONE with the hub... its manufactured with hub with studs, so like one continuous structure extending to the studs... on the one you showed the studs have a recessed hole where they can sit, bit on this I don't get that.. the studs are the hub and the hub is the studs... they are ONE.. solid continuous object... no interchangeability of studs... I feel I either have to 1 throw in the towel, 2 weld a another same dimension stud with nut (new/old style) or Replace the hub entirely.. for a replacement.. which depending on model.. might not be accessible/available.. or if 3D printed/Hand-Made could cost loads...
I mean that's the first thing I would look is any places that do refurb trucks/truck wheels... problem is its an old model and they would likely say same thing I've mentioned here... because refurb of hub cap/hub stud (lug) would be way cheaper than having a 3D printed Model of truck wheel hub... especially as 3D printing is Still a new technology... I've actually looked at the expenses of these things and they are THROUGH THE ROOF!!! Maybe its possible someone who knows a lot about refurb may have a crucible and a mold.. where they can use current hub as mold and then pour new steel into the mold.. and then hopefully leave it to cool and jobs a goodin... though no guarantees :/
I wouldn't want to ride in any vehicle with a 3D printed wheel hub! I kind of doubt the hub was cast and then threads cut into the studs, too brittle, but I could be wrong. Maybe welded in or rust makes it looks one piece? Your best option would be to remove the hub, take it to a GOOD machine shop who would measure and drill it out in the exact right spot, with the exact right diameter hole, and install an over the counter wheel stud similar to this video. The cost of doing that should be minimal, and you wouldn't risk your wheel flying off at highway speed!
@@DIYBenzGarage I mean it's only going on tractor and across the beach.. I forgot to mention it's for a boat.. that's where your wrong.. the wheels now are more sophisticated where you can interchange them no trouble, whereas these are much older wheels from about 50 years ago (1970's I believe)..
I mean it's ALL made from 50 years ago.. the trailer, the wheels, the hub itself are also 50 years old.. which makes sense.. as back then they likely didn't have the same manufacturing procedures they have now.. in terms of having that modularity of being able to simply take stud out and replace..
@@DIYBenzGarage I did notice however on these other wheels (big beefy tyres).. there was these caps on the other side of the wheel... So maybe your right, I just couldn't see it.. I saw this big barrel attached to the wheel and a pipe inserted to centre of the wheel.. but it was steered by large pivot behind the wheels.. maybe like you say it could have just been DISGUISED to look that way.. where the rust met with the stud at the base of the lug and fused to look like one... I mean it's 50 years old.. so it's also had 50 years to rust in.. yeahhh that's a good possible theory/hypothesis. As much as it's good to see evidence, it's also good to see evidence that goes against that.. unless I found out of course.. but how would I know??? Without looking.. and the only reason there isn't major rust at the bottom is because the wheel was sitting over the rust whole time.. so it didn't have space..
You got a ball joint to worry about too
Good eye, I replaced that shortly after, but didn't make a video.
Watch at 1.5x speed. You're welcome.
hmmmmmm..........
Mine 2007 2.2 diest that matter .
It should be the same
@@DIYBenzGarage thank u for letting me know and God bless
I just took it off with a normal ratchet, you just wasn't holding your mouth right.
You completely skipped removal of brakes! Wtf
Because that depends on your vehicle. Different vehicles have different brakes, look yours up.
He told us to unbolt the bolts and they will remove the brakes and caliber
Ya know if u didn’t skip when u took the whole thing off then this would’ve worked
I showed exactly what I did, and it has worked for hundreds of others. Good luck.
You skipped right past the caliper removing part :(
Yes, on purpose. Calipers, brackets, rotors mount differently on different cars, but most cars have a sweet spot on the hub to replace the stud. Even if I showed you removing the caliper, it may not apply to your model.
You still need basic knowledge. Lol it's only 2 bolts usually. Not rocket science.
