Dragons come in many forms. Chinese dragons look very serpentine, like snakes with wings and moustaches... so the term "dragon" can describe a pretty wide variety of designs.
+Michael Angel This particular style of glass dragon has its beginning in styles set by designers in the 16th and 17th centuries. Artists have adapted their own variations and styles of fantastical animals and creatures, some of which have become the contemporary glassmakers' idea of the glass dragon. In short, the style of the dragon has roots in historical designs, but each artist can interpret that differently.
+Milander just milander That's fine. If you don't like it, you don't like it. But realize there is more to life than what you like, and other people can love it. The person who posted this video explained the history of glass dragon sculpture, which explains why the dragon is formed the way it is. My suggestion would be you not buy this sculpture, since you clearly don't like it.
honestly, the only thing that bothers me (not counting the broken bottom from the detachment) is how i have never seen a glass dragon with the face of a dragon, they always have bird or fishlike beaks.

I'm a little surprised at the negative comments on the style of the dragon. Being as this is a mythical creature AND this is "art"...I would think people would understand that any dragon made is open to the artist's interpretation. Fascinating work being done here!
LSD burned brain eh maybe you should get the new world record smoking 30 gram of shater you be a star with burned brain yeah dude my lungs so saturated with tar am so smart
It took 30 years to get that good, the cost mentioned was for a full goblet, lid, and topper, and those would take a lot longer to make than the fifty minutes for the topper. That's also only the gross cost. The materials (Glass, oven, tools, kiln, brace, rod, etc.) would seriously reduce that gross cost. All in all, that's a relatively fair price for this sort of work.

really great work, and amazing to watch, it is really a shame that the majority of the people in the comments have not a clue the diversity of dragons in history and literature especially non westernized dragons aka 90% of all dragons in mythology, and how they are depicted. In any case it was just mesmerizing to watch and i enjoyed it thoroughly. thank you!
You guys really raised the bar on video production for glass demos on this one. The finished product shot at the end was a really nice touch. Thanks for the video!
Started off strong, but starts going down hill as soon as the head is formed. While from a craftsmanship standpoint, this is fantastic, from an artistic standpoint it looks scattered and unattractive. The head looking like a dragon/chicken hybrid takes a lot away in terms of impressiveness, and the arms being so smooth and tubular while the rest of the piece has distinct ridges and angles frankly look silly. Also, the wings look horribly generic and, like the arms, look like they were taken from a different piece and just kinda slapped up there, like the wings on the keys in Harry Potter. The worst offender, though is DEFINITELY the eyes. He kinda just did the glass equivalent of slapping a pair of googly eyes on it and calling it a day.
you're not wrong, but this channel is about the craft. at no point in this video or any other I've seen from the CMOG does the narrator or artist discuss artistic choices. you're kinda shooting fish in a barrel. what did fishy do to you?
Dritto1010 I will not deny that it does look like a 16th-17th century Italian dragon. My point, however, is that this piece, and in turn16th-17th century Italian dragons, look scattered and unattractive.
+BigRedRockBox I tend to agree. For the money I would expect something more powerful looking. I know that it has to be tough to do, but I wouldn't pay that kind of money.
Shaping on the pipe occurs in the 1500°-2100º F range, 800°-1150º C, so they are heating it to keep the glass in that temperature range. If it gets too cool, it will crack and fall off.
+Dritto1010 they do, its just that this literally looks like a duck, there's this one painting by Raphael where the dragon kind of almost looks like this, but everything else is the typical dragon, or the eastern version which if you define "dragon" as the stuff we see in movies/games, the asian version of the dragon still looks more like a dragon than this or "St. George and the Dragon". So... yeah
I love the internet. A world of knowledge at my fingertips.

Man, when he cuts the molten hot glass with scissors its just so satisfying.
watched till the end to find out it looks like a scared mutated SEA HORSE! no offense
Looks more like a cockatrice to me =) But he's the artist, he sees it that way. A hell of a job anyways =)
😂😭
You guys really raised the bar on video production for glass demos on this one. The finished product shot at the end was a really nice touch. Thanks for the video!
+Keith Thanks for watching!

Right, face of a chicken, body of a dragon, wings of an airplane and a tail of a mermaid.
you're not wrong, but this channel is about the craft. at no point in this video or any other I've seen from the CMOG does the narrator or artist discuss artistic choices. you're kinda shooting fish in a barrel. what did fishy do to you?
Dritto1010 I will not deny that it does look like a 16th-17th century Italian dragon. My point, however, is that this piece, and in turn16th-17th century Italian dragons, look scattered and unattractive.
+BigRedRockBox you make great points on the wings heas and arms. i didn't even think about the arms. lol
+BigRedRockBox I tend to agree. For the money I would expect something more powerful looking. I know that it has to be tough to do, but I wouldn't pay that kind of money.
Wow, I'm in love (with the art of making things like this happening)
Why do they keep heating with the torch
Shaping on the pipe occurs in the 1500°-2100º F range, 800°-1150º C, so they are heating it to keep the glass in that temperature range. If it gets too cool, it will crack and fall off.
Netflix subscription isn't on and I'm meeting my friend in an hour and 30 mins. So after this finishes I have 30 mins to shower and get ready.
didn't really looks like dragon.. looks more like creepy mutant duck.. hahaha
So... yeah
+Dritto1010 I know, it's just that there really don't seem to be many depictions
I thought it was a sea horse
