Just gorgeous! Love the green here.
Wow! I can usually see how a block is going to come together, but this one had me stumped. It's like watching you pull a rabbit out of a hat when you lay it out! Such a treat!
I love "finished is better than perfect!" You were the first quilting person who seemed to believe that and I've been working on that and it REALLY helped free me up to keep sewing! Thank you, Jenny!
Love your tutorials. Needless to say I am addicted. Thank you Jenny.
Jenny, I am a new quilter and I just love to watch your videos. I learn so much from you and you are like the girl next door. I feel like I know you. Keep them coming!
I’m so excited to make this quilt! Reading the pattern instructions I got little lost. I knew Jenny’s tutorial would make it easy, and I was right! My quilt will be going to a military kid. Thank you so much!!!
I made a square of this for a pillow gift for my brother... It is a great pattern that can be used in so many different projects. Next - a table runner for my sister for the holidays. Thank you Jenny -- you are the Quilt Bomb.
I love how excited you get Jenny. And this one is very cute.
How much more fun it is when you can enjoy "finished is better than perfect"... Thank You for the validation:)) GB
Loving this fabric and this block !♥️♥️♥️
Love your tutorials Jenny. Always so easy to follow you. Love that pattern and fabric, just looks so bright and colorful for spring!
Jenny I love how you “think aloud”as you do these videos because it’s really helpful to see how you think it through. I’m a little angly challenged myself! 😄
The block makes a fun design, the fabrics are wowzer and the backing fabric is spectacular! Spot on Jenny!
I just love this, especially in the bright fabric line. This is so cute! I can't wait the make it, Jenny.
This looks just like one I will make as I have a lot of 5" charm packs I have purchased from MSQC. Thanks again Jenny. The 1st quilt I made was a disappearing nine patch I watched you make on UA-cam about 7 years ago.
We're so happy you joined the Missouri Star family 7 years ago, Lynn! We hope you have fun with this quilt!
Agree! Great idea for quilt of valor!!! But I love this one! ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ Thanks tons Jenny!
I love the fabric line you used in this quilt and the quilt itself is adorable! I really need to stock up on background fabric, I have enough print fabric to choke a horse.
Joyce Anglin Mil
Joyce Anglin Miller I also have enough prints to choke not a horse but maybe an elephant
Between three weekends of online fabric auctions at Sparrow Quilt, the special Jenny's Scrap Bag daily deal, the fabrics for the One Direction, and today's Kaffe Fassett daily deal on top of everything I've been hoarding I'm fabric pooped out. My husband said he doesn't mind my buying fabric if I make the quilts so I better get cracking. My next project is the Double Churn Dash quilt for our porch swing.
OMG!! I just love that backing!!! What a fabulous quilt.
You are not angle challenged. You are perfect Jenny!
So very sweet, I just don't know how you do it but I am so glad that you do! Another for the very long list.
Omgosh, this is such a sweet Quilt! It almost has a ribbon dance similarity to it. OH goodness I have a few charm packs in Red, black, and white floral, me thinks I have found my next quilt😉😊🤗 I can see solid red HST making a dramatic pop..Thanks Jenny! A little imperfection makes it truly loved.
I'm loving where your mind is going! We hope you'll share a photo when it's complete!
I love this pattern!!! I have so many charm packs that I just haven't known what to do with them. This will be perfect! Thank you Jenny!!!
Another great block can't wait to do this one .A friend was just across in America and met Jenny ,she just loved her time in Hamilton .😁😎😘
I have also met Jenny on one of my trips to Hamilton, and she is just as friendly in person as she is in her videos. She actually stood and listened to my whole story about how she inspired me to make a quilt for my daughter, and she never gave me the feeling that she had anything more important to do. :)
Oh Mrs Doan.. I'm sure you've heard this a gazillion times already, but you are an exceptional teacher.. Do visit India someday and give us Jenny fans a live tutorial! So beautifully and lovingly explained by you.. All your tutorials are Holy Grails..!
Thanks so much for your support, Manisha! Hopefully Jenny will get to visit India one day. :)
Jenny, you are an inspiration to all of us,especially me. Thank you for your dedication. I just ordered my first long arm machine and frame. Am so excited. Best wishes always.
Jenny, you did it again! Very fun and colorful.
Jenny you are so adorable. I love this pattern and can't wait to make the quilt.
You make it easy and that fabric is fabulous. I love the backing fabric you chose. Thanks for another great video!
Love it!
Another awesome inspirational tute from super Tutor Jenny!!
I am going to try this with 2" sashing between the blocks. Thank you for the great tutorial!
JEN2085707 it is Mildred here and I just love your videos I am newbie and learning more about quilting watching the videos what I have been looking for is a video of the Teddy Bear giant rag quilt. Is there one?
Mildred, Jenny has a video about making rag quilts: ua-cam.com/video/W0UQgeol-Zk/v-deo.html
You can make a rectangle quilt, then draw a teddy bear shape on the back with a Frixion pen. Then you will sew a half inch inside the drawn line to hold the layers together. Then cut the teddy bear shape out on the drawn line and snip the edges to make them fluffy,.
Have fun making the blanket!
Just love, love, love the block! I'm going through my Big projects with the multiple sizing 10's , Rolls and Charms! Thanks!
im going to make this one for my married grand daughter she is in love with reds so in using reds mixture love the quilt thank you again!
What a wonderful gift, she will adore it!
This would be neat as a QOV. Do the stars in various blues, the “bars” in various reds, and the white background. Ta da!
You beat me to it! I was just thinking the same thing. This would be really nice as a red, white and blue with some gold accents. It would be beautiful! Lol
Fabulous idea!!
What does QOV stand for?
Quilt of Valor
Alicia Richardson my thoughts exactly!
I've GOT to make this!!!
Love your tutorials! I too am a bit angly challenged.
Awe Jenny you did it again!! 😍
Easy to learn from Jenny, want to make everything she shows!
I need to thank you SO very much for showing how to make these beautiful blocks using 5"squares. I've been learning to quilt and find that using precuts really helps me try new skills. I appreciate your practical approach to learning. (And your wedding rings are really pretty) Thanks for your terrific company, too!
My son would like this with a dark background and bright neon stars. Food for thought I feel
Vanessa Coombs that sounds cute! I love bright colors with a dark background
I don't know how to upload a pic here, but I made this with a dark purple background, a turquoise star and batiks that coordinated for the "sidekicks" (?). It came out beautifully. I love this square.
Love ☺❤💜💙💛
Hi jenny ! I love your starting words "it's very easy project "
Great quilt love the colors
I love watching your tutorials but when you get in such a hurry, as you are in this one, it makes me very anxious and stressed and I have a hard time enjoying the tutorial! Slow down and smell the roses along the way!
So stinkin cute
Adorable! Another one on my list.
Lovely quilt Jenny.
Great pattern and really like the bright colors
Wow. Thisso beautiful. Will try it. Thanks jenny
Great quilt.. i love it.
I was just going to say what Alicia said. I think I'm going to make a QOV from this block. Thank you Jenny!
OMG that is exactly what I thought of when I saw the blocks!
You could switch the direction and use a blue star fabric for the smaller HSTs and then red and white for the stripes. Maybe even do one set of the medium HSTs in the blue starts. Now I'm ready to make a quilt!!!
I think this print is so cheerful;it would be great to take to a nursing home. Jenny, I don't know how you can talk and sew at the same time. I have to hold my mouth a certain way lol😄😬
Hehehe, I am the same way, brows furrowed and tongue sticking out the side of my mouth 😁
It must be the years of practice! ;)
for sure going to make it. tnx. love love love your videos. bless.
thank you for the tip on the ruler - I bought it for another of your tutorials I am wrapping up but I am constantly flipping it back and forth because I hadn't figured out the trick of putting the words on the background!!
Fabulous quilt as usual Jenny...I need to get busy and live to be 💯 to get my list done ✅.....🇦🇺
Thank you for making these videos. I am a visual learner and you make the process of making a quilt so easy?
Jenny you’re awesome.
Thank you.for making these videos.खुप छान.
hi Jenny after watching this a couple of times I relized I could do a modern version of tumbling spools with the blpck that has the snowballed corner.
I may have to try this as a planned rather than scrappy quilt. I’d love to see how it turns out when the crosshatch is made up in just two colors- one going NE to SW and the other color SE to NW.
This quilt is so beautiful m
"PRESS TO THE DARK SIDE " sounds like star wars. smile.. I LIKE YOUR VIDEOS BECAUSE OF YOUR PERSONALITY THAT GOES WITH IT. SOME LADIES ARE SO DRY. YOURS IS HUMAN. SMILE USA
Gracias por compartir muy lindo tutorial Dios te pague
Awesome
Have you ever used the Quilt In A Day Square Up Ruler for sizing up the half-square triangles? You use it before you press the blocks open. When you use this, the squares are all perfect size before you open them up and press. Works wonderfully.
It is a great tool!!
You Do Know That, they're lazy, some don't like YOUR choices, AND HAVE NO IMAGINATION! OR JUST PEOPLE THAT ARE SNOBS! I REALLY LOVE THAT YOU DO THE SHORTCUTS! Cindia
I just got some great new fabric from MSQC to make this fun quilt 👏🏻
Oh, and my mom was 46 when she died (car accident) and I miss her every day.
We're so sorry for your loss lorie!
I see what you are doing i be lost half way threw the pattern lol helppppp Jenny it is gorgeous
I ❤ hst!
It's hard not to when they are so versatile!
Unless you choose a charm pack that has a duplicate of each print, I would buy four charm packs. It looks like you always have to have a matching pair which won’t work with only three.
That's a great point!
Great job thank you Jenny! I was looking and you've never done a Double Irish Chain quilt tutorial !? You have the single, could it be called something else and I'm missing it? If not, you should definitely do one!
Would be a fabulous QOV!
That is so true, Peggy!
ooohhh...I see this block in a QOV; The Quilting Marine talks about you alot on his channel and he just finished up a big project. Well, the project is being done by many wonderful quilters giving back to vets...I'm going to do this block you tutorialed here for his QOV for next year; if you have not seen his channel they are 'collabing' (not a word I know) 31 or 32 quilts. Jenny, check him out; especially how his project came to fruition, it is worth it. going to tell him to watch this latest vlog as well...TFS
I actually enjoyed this quilt! I’m seeing it in scraps, but that’s because I learned from a scrap-a-holic.... 😃 I do see several different color ways done in the near future! But one question.... why did you name it “Sidekick?”
It's a spin off of the Friendship Star, so we thought Sidekick was a fun name. :)
Missouri Star Quilt Company very clever!
I love making these blocks and they come together quickly. A word of caution though. I'm using Abigail charm packs and 3 packs only makes 18 blocks because a number of the fabrics do not have an even number of the same color. I have 11 single squares I cannot use for this pattern. I need to order a 4th pack to make my last two blocks. I'm not sure if every charm pack has some patterns with only one or an odd number. I will use the rest of the charm pack to make bags or a table runner because I really like the print so it is not a problem. But I wanted to help you plan ahead.
How much yardage would I need to replace the white Charm packs? Thank you!
Essence of Me according to my figuring about 2 yards
Jane Wolfe Thank you!!!
I love your quilts. How can I view all of your videos. Thank you for making these teaching videos. Caroline
Very lovely sister
Anyone know what the traditional name of this block is?
It is very similar to the Ribbon Quilt Block. That one is also a variation on the Friendship Star
Does anyone know if this was ever in any of the Block magazines??
Hi Jenny, I wanted some information on the attic window panel that you did a couple of years ago. If you could let me know how you attached the batting and the backing and how you have managed to hang it on the wall. I am sorry Im asking this question here. But I just managed to make an attic window panel but not aware how to hang it up on the wall. Thanks in advance
Hi, Ophelia! You can also contact MSQC Customer Service at info@missouriquiltco.com. I've had these kinds of questions, too, and the Customer Service representative always been super helpful. Best of all, you'll receive an answer quickly!
I am Tracey from Chorley Lancashire UK and I love some of your fabrics but very expensive to send the fabric to me. It makes me very sad
tracey minton Hi I am from Cheltenham Uk and like you wish International shipping was cheaper. Although my daughter lives in Wyoming so when I visit her, I place an order to go her address and bring it home.
Helen Galpin hi. The fabrics that are for sale are not a bad price but it the shipping. I don't know what to do
Any chance you two could place an order together and split the shipping charge?
We wish shipping were more affordable internationally as well. It is a bit better if you are ordering lots at once. Lori's suggestion of getting some friends to order at the same time with you and splitting the shipping cost is great!
It would be cool if you did something for the international shoppers like have them opt to pay for a monthly shipping charge, order all they want in that month and have things sent once a month! Just an idea I pitched a while back.
Hi thanks for v.good work ...i have qaustion how mane pesies in sat
chain piecing rules....
Could you tell me material list for a king size quilt in this pattern?
Is this in one of the block magazines?
Donna Morgan
Can we get a written pattern for this?
The ending shot in this video is a picture of Jenny posed in front of a couple of quilts. Is there a tutorial for the quilt with the colorful 16-patches and the grey/white background?
what if you trim it without a block lock ruler? can you just trim it any way as long as it comes out to 4 1/2? just curious.
Hi Jenny, will it mess up the dimensions if i cut it down to 9 inches. 🤗
what is the machine you are using? It sure is fast.
Kathy Elliott I've asked before...I believe it's a Babylock Jane. MSQ sells them.
I went to the website and put Babylock Jane in the search window, but nothing comes up. I don't think they sell any sewing machines, they just promote them via their videos, unless they have an off-site page that deals strictly with machines.
babylock only allows their dealers to sell in person, no online sales. you can go to the babylock website to find a dealer near you.
Hi Kathy! Cindy and Rachel are correct. It's the Baby Lock Jane and we do sell them, but are only allowed to sell them in store here in Hamilton, MO.
muggee52 email msq and ask the price. They sent me an email with the their price just a few months ago.
What is the sewing machine you are using?
How many squares are in a charm pack?
How many 5" square per package are you referring to? 5" square pkgs come in various counts.
You are trying to confuse me right girl really i like it but nooooo now fir me
How come you don't have giant teddy bear videos and if you have them how can I find them on here? how come you don't have giant teddy bear videos and if you do then how can I find them on here
If not do you know how I find them
Love it!
Love it!
