    I am excited to make this in greens, blues and cream or white for my sister as she requested wall hangings instead of bed quilts for her new home. I am going to make her several different patterns plus a jelly roll rug plus a throw quilt for her living room. She is my youngest sister, single from a messy divorce and her youngest son still lives with her. Should make her very happy, I hope!! Thank you, Jenny, for all your tutorials and the fun we have watching them.

    Jenny, which ruler do you like better: the block loc or the the perfect slotted Trimmer? I am worried that if you don't press the blocks open before you square them up, then they could turn out distorted and you won't realize it. I know you've tried them both, so I'd love to hear your opinion on which one you like better. Thank you so much.

    How do you determine what your finished size is....if you used a layer cake, what size would the finish block be?

    • @e2cmmm
      @e2cmmm 6 років тому +1

      Susan Hofer A layer cake has 10" squares. So if you also double the widths and lengths of all the border strips, then the quilt should finish at 78" by 88".

    • @lizaddison-duenas4351

  • @sarahscott6565
    @sarahscott6565 6 років тому

    The wheels started turning as I was watching the square blocks being made, and I started coming up with ideas. Couldn't the squares be made simply as an Exploding Block? I wonder if that would still turn out the correct size. I may try that to see if it would work, but I think it will, because it's supposed to end up being 5 1/2" square. I think it will turn out. I'm going to try it.

      @bettywhittington625 4 роки тому

      Alice Borghoff because the darker side will show through to the front of your quilt if you iron it to the light side. Just a little detail you learn to make your final project look nicer. Have a great day

    All I see at 11:20 is flowers. One would need to either make some narrow stems (via double fold bias) or even satin stitch the stems if I didn't want to bother with dbl fold bias. I'd put a background fabric "block" in between each flower/leaves block (and alternate their placement between rows). And maybe I might even use a light tone-on-tone or a light fabric with tiny flowers for the entire quilt's background fabric. So ... one charm pack for the floral and leaves, 2 charm packs for the background (plus 1/4 yd for inner border); about 1/4? yd to make the stems; 1 yd? for outer border; and about 4.5? yds for backing; 3/4 -1 yd for binding. Just brainstorming here for a different look. Does anyone else see the flowers?

    • @susanmei9980
      @susanmei9980 6 років тому +1

      I rewatched the video, and now I see the flowers too! So the Chevron's below the square make the leaves and the square makes the flower, right? What about using green rick rack for the stems and choosing green fabrics for the "leaves"? I think that would make a really cute quilt, especially to hang on the wall! Great idea !

    • @newbeequilter
      @newbeequilter 6 років тому

      +Susan Mei - Thanks. I really like your green rick rack idea for the stems! But I'm too lazy to form the leaves with rick rack :-) Oh, and as long as "we've" already got the rick rack, maybe have a wider white border with two shades of green rick rack swirling down the middle. OR: If I wasn't making a large quilt, for the border I might use a bunch of white charm squares and sew an X in rick rack from corner to corner of each charm and then sew those charms in strips for the border to make it look like lattice work around the "flower garden". Yeh, I like the lattice better than the swirls in the border :-) One more thing . . . I'd use tiny dots of glue to anchor the rick rack down before sewing the stem lines for the flowers and X's in the charm borders.
