I always look forward to the latest video - I love this one and will definitely make it. I would cut slightly differently, slice off the six 4 1/2 " pieces and then attach the white fabric to the remainder, then cut that strip at 2 1/2" intervals. I don't enjoy sewing 2 1/2" squares so anytime I don't have to I'm thrilled!

what an awesome idea about sewing the white with the remainder and "then" cut into 2-1/2.... I never think of these things

@@leaannegrabb8653 make a long "strip set of white + print, then cut that crosswise into 2-1/2 pieces.

I've watched this tutorial many, many times and finally got the chance to make it up into a quilt, however rather than put sashing between the rows, I decided to snowball the outside corners of the white squares with a solid color fabric. Then when I put the whole thing together I had a wonderful little secondary pattern in what would have been the large white spaces. Great tutorial, clearly explained, thank you.

Thank you so much! I used to weave so this is really making my heart sing. I haven't quilted for years & I just got a layer cake from you, thread & clips. When I have to be in my own little world it's nice to be creating something beautiful.

I am, and always have been, a crafter of variety. My husband cracks up at how flighty I can be with my creativity! One week, I'm knitting, the next, it's cross stitch, then I'm making a wreath or doing flowers for my daughter's or son's wedding... It's always something! I have a condition with my pancreas that has me in constant chronic pain, so I can't work, but I can't sit still! Lol
I have always wanted to quilt. My grandmother, God love her, made me a simple, pink, yarn-tied quilt when I was young, and it was my favorite gift in the whole world. Now, I'm about to be a grandma, so I figured it's time for me! Thank Heaven for YT!! (And MSQC!) My grandmother is still alive, and very spunky at 80, but very much like me in the way that we are "Janes of all crafts, masters of none", and she barely remembers how to use her sewing machine.
The point of all this is just to say "Thank you". Thanks for sharing your tips and tricks to quilt-making, and with so much fun! I hope I can get off of your channel to get started, but I enjoy watching your videos so much! LOL
    PS... A true story:
I took my husband into a fabric store for the first time, and he spotted the jelly rolls. He picked one up and turned to me to say, in a hushed voice, "Honey? Why is this so expensive?!" I had to explain to him that all the hard work is already DONE! He said, "Oh... Well that makes sense... THIS one is pretty." And he threw it in the cart and bought it for me! ❤

Sounds like a very supportive spouse, Kari. You can count yourself lucky about that (although I am sorry about your chronic pancreatic pain; my mother suffers from MS and its associated chronic pain, and it is not a life I would choose for anyone. Best of luck on your journey, I hope these MSQC tutorials provide you with hours of distracting enjoyment. They've been a lifeline for me, and I've even made a couple of them myself, which turned out better than I expected them to!).

....as i am finishing a quilt, and have scraps, I am cutting them into 2 1/2" squares and 2 1/2" by 4 1/2" small strips..I will sew 2 squares together, then add on the small strip of 4 1/2" to make 1/4 of the block you see above, then throwing them in a bin...when I have enough, I will put 4 of the mini blocks together, to create a completely scrap block....then grow it into a quilt!

You could use yardage, and only two colors and then entire quilt would weave. Or two colors per row, so the whole row would weave fully across... omit the sashing. OR since you get 6 cuts per jelly roll strip, you could use only two strips and lay out 6 squares instead of 7.. and it would weave all the way across. In fact, in my head I imagine how cute it would be to do the same squares in one row so it would be a continuous weave, then make "U-turn" blocks at each end so it looks like it turns and goes back to the left, "U turn" then back to the right, "uturn" back to the left...

Four partial log cabin sections sewn together to make one woven square, correct? And we can use a white jelly roll for the back ground and a roll of skinny strips for the sashing! The prints are different but the colors match so it looks like one large woven piece. Wish i could show you a picture.

Really pretty quilt and a good one for someone who likes a more scrappy quilt. For the sashing strips could you use a “skinny” jelly roll? For some it might be easier/quicker than to cut from yardage.

I started cutting my jelly roll; the first 4 strips worked out perfectly, but then I started running out of strip before I could get all 6 2.5 inch squares from some of the other strips. Not all of the strips in the jelly roll were the same size. Needless to say I'm frustrated, but I'll go through my scraps and see if I can still make this. Lesson learned: not all jelly roll strips in one roll are cut the same so I'm going to check each strip the next time before I start cutting. I do so love this quilt though, love Jenny and plan on making it one way or the other.
