12:5 is an acoustic live album with different interpretations of their work up to that point. Reconciliation is off of their studio album The Perfect Element, which is honestly essential listening if you're into emotional, lyrical prog music. That album, along with Remedy Lane, Be, and In The Passing Light Of Day are all amazing studio albums. Also, their live album "On The Two Deaths Of..." is very good as well, and it contains one of the best renditions of the Leonard Cohen song "Hallelujah" that I've ever heard. Not to mention, Daniel Gildenlow is such a versatile vocal beast. Welcome down the rabbit hole!
You are so right. Daniel once told me that he treated his voice like a trusted employee. He would just give his trust and it would rise to the occasion and deliver. Daniel is truly a beast of singer! ❤
Pain of Salvation reactions are kinda sad, because people are blown away, yet they are a very unknown band to the general public, so natrurally they tend to get fewer clicks. I find it funny you focus so much on breathing, because Daniel started taking some singing lessons when he was younger, but he rapidly quit because he thought he was being taught things he already knew by instinct. He is a natural beast, not only singing, but he also is an incredible composer and a multi instrumentalist. On top of that, his discography is full of innovation and a relentless exploration of new grounds, which some people in the progressive world kinda hate because they want the same album over and over and again. He is nearing the 50s now and has lost some edge, but he has also won on subtleties. You can watch his most recent live appearance performing some covers (and some own material) here (the New York, New York rearrengement is simply mindblowing): ua-cam.com/video/5JTeoU34tXE/v-deo.html
Finally, finally!! The best prog metal vocalist in the world is here on the channel! Please do more PoS :) However in my opinion the best Daniel's work is a role in Genius Rock Opera. His vocals there are close to perfection
Whoa! DG is my favorite rock vocalist of all time and I'd never heard this before. Just listened to I Die and well... I DIED! Holy cow can that man sing! I had goosebumps all the way up my spine onto my scalp! His voice is so colorful and sublime. Thank you for this comment! Today I discovered a new DG song!!!! :) :) :)
If you liked this it would behoove you to also watch their live version of Iter Impius/Nauticus Martius II from the album BE. ua-cam.com/video/piv5w0ZdFXs/v-deo.html P.S. I was at this concert in Eskilstuna, Sweden and it was awesome. Edit: For a good representation of his voice though, try King of Loss from The Perfect Element, studio version. This song is beautiful and musically provocative.
I attended that concert.. didn't know footage of it existed. They played the song Ashes, transposed to a major key.. it was very different. IIRC they covered some Elvis song too. Good times.
PoS is number 1 on the list of my most favorite bands. Their live performance is always do tie for. You can't even imagine seeing this thing go full power live. Also - you look like Ricky Gervais :)
11:00 I did this cover song and it was a headache figuring out those time signatures haha. Those rythm changes are crazy! pure genius. BTW good reaction! I got the same reaction at the highest note first time I listened to the song,
Daniel has a huge catalog of music you need to check out. Start with Entropia and work your way up to Panther. The album “BE” is a masterpiece. Great review!!

Gotta show some love to Entropia too.
I'm stuck in this rabbit hole since 2005 and honestly it is warm and cozy, so im ok here. Not gonna leave =D
Their recorded concert Be Live is one of the best thing I've watched/listened to. They are incredible, principally Daniel.

The 12:5 live is the best acoustic live i've ever heard.
My fav album from them is The Perfect Element. They are so underrated

Oooooh my favorite band here! Daniel Gildenlöw is one of my biggest influences
MORE PoS please
You need to do more of Pain of Salvation.
Daniel Gildenlöw is such a great singer! I also love his parts in Ayreon.
Love Daniel's vocals! More PoS please!!!
daniel gildenlöw is a beautiful swedish man

That little high note he pops in there @11:58 is ego-shattering.
Best singer in the world!
Daniel Gildenllow is IMO the best male vocalist there is. I’m a huge fan of Bruce Dickinson but Daniel’s voice is damn perfect and beautiful.

Slap like now!
My goodness Daniel's voice is sublime.

it's so sad that this band never got deserved attention
