I think the only thing you can say is that this is yet another stunning song from Steven Wilson. He does not disspaoint in his determination to be different and not stay the same. Recommend someday checking out Marillion (preferably with Hogarth as singer, but both eras of Marillion are phenomenal) - 40+ year history, 20 studio albums. Steve Wilson has re-mixed several of their albums. In 2017 Marillion performed at Royal Albert Hall accompanied by flute, horn & string section - the performance was released as "All One Tonight" in audio and video forms. With one of the most passionate fanbases - Marillion essentially invented Internet 'kickstarting' way back in 1997.
I love all Steven Wilson works. And the last album is not that bad as people think. It really is different, but all the effort he made us being waiting from home is there. U should try PERSONAL SHOPPER, it has a mix of so much things... More electronic for sure, but a progressive eletrônic song, where even Jean Michel Jarre u can hear influencing him 👌🏼👌🏼 With all of this, all the concept of the song about modern society is badass
PT fans just want spectacular jamming with unexpected changes. The structure of this is more basic. But still great songwriting that we've learned to expect from Steven Wilson.

@@Capitaomac1 Yes, the pandemic has been hard on a lot of bands. Anathema is one of those bands that I can just throw on and it takes me away. Love how they can build up a song over time.
Beautiful song. Chords remind me of purple rain. But I love the lyrics. I think you and your wife should check out the video version of the song routine by Steve Wilson. Features Ninet as well.

This is Steven Wilson's "Don't Give Up". But I find him to be a consistently good songwriter because he always balances the more mundane and predictable with the unexpected. Plus this song proves he's a big believer in dynamic contrasts! Here he channels his fondness for well-produced pop contrasted and the shoegazer music from bands like My Bloody Valentine. Sure, why not mash them together? Also, his collaborations with Israeli singer Ninet Tayib have been great. I think she was involved with introducing him to his wife and step-daughter?
I’m 3 for 3 on my last round of requests! This was the first single from the album. Again, people were a bit shocked when this album came out as it’s very different from previous albums. But it has some great moments. SW hired Mark Feltham to play harmonica on a couple of songs which is really cool. I was going to recommend a song called permeating but I think that song would have been too much of a shock for you. I still kind of cringe while listening to it but secretly enjoy it too. His next album called The Future Bites is my least favorite of anything from him. It’s very digital and beyond pop sounding. SW loved it when he put it out but most fans were highly disappointed. The b sides were better songs. And the telecaster….SW has explained his new found love for the Tele several times and how he had an old one he never played. Then finally did and loved it. Went out and bought the relic one from the custom shop that you saw here. He’s used it a ton since including the new PT album that recently came out. Glad you liked. Wasn’t sure as you’ve only heard the more complex stuff from him but his catalog is full of very dynamic music from the heavy stuff to pure atmospheric sound.
Great request. I really hope you request routine. The Royal Albert Hall version is great, but I really think the Music video brings it to another level.

But yes, if I do request, I will only do the official video. While I love the live performance, the official video hits you much harder. It is a beautiful song with an extremely sad story. I was also thinking about Stop Swimming as I love that PT song. The live version from Warzawa. Still thinking about my next list for him. I am trying to keep it as different as possible with bands but still revisit stuff he has liked
Cannot agree that to the bone was not a really good album. Sure there were some more commercial sounding songs on it but ‘Refuge’ and ‘Detonation’ are up there with his best work and ‘People who eat darkness’ and ‘Song of unborn’ rate pretty highly in my book. With this song that is half the album.
Ninet is superb. Pariah is a great song. The album, while not as good as Hand. Cannot. Erase. is still excellent. It's hard to top one of the greatest albums ever. I'd always recommend listening to the album version of a song first, especially if you ever get round to listening to Refuge. The harmonica/guitar/synth section is so perfect on the album, it just can't be beat.
Yeah. Refuge is definitely one that I’d suggest album version. That’s probably my favorite song on the album. For Pariah, I really liked how open the song becomes when the heavier guitars come in. I think that part really shines on this version over the album one. But each version is great on its own.
Lol. It has it place and fits the overall album well if you are listening to it in full. This was actually a small “hit” for SW and performed it many times in an acoustic setting. You lose the end bigger sound with the acoustic only. Probably would put you into a coma 😉😀

When i first heard this song i could swear it was an Anathema song. It's so their style.

I’ve played a lot of guitars but nothing is better than a Tele, you can play any style on on it
