If the main gear and oscillation gears are brass or stainless then it’ll last forever. Otherwise with salt intrusion, all those zinc parts will pulverized.
I actually like 1000 and 3000 series for times when i dont want to bring out my vanford, 23 vanquish or 22 stella or bait and wait for trout and i love it. Only non high end reel that punches above its weight class
They are to change the configuration of how your line sits on the spool. My question is, where is the antireverse lever, and why does the handle unscrew so easily?

Not all SST is magnetic, there are lower grades that are not magnetic.
