@E Fox I'm a huge fan of Layne Staley, but Jerry really was the heart of the band. He wrote most of their lyrics and music and if you listen to Alice in Chains' newer stuff with Duvall you'll notice it still sounds "Alice in Chains". That's because it's Jerry's sound. Even his solo stuff has that sound.

@@bongisland2762 Not so much hating this world, but like many from Seattle and that area, he suffered from depression when he was younger, and coming from abusive parents didn't help, but he moved past it, never got into the hard shit like heroin, he also had experienced the painful loss of a best friend early on, the front man from Mother Love Bone, Andy Wood, and then many more...Layne, etc. Death was a big theme in his life, as someone from the city with the highest suicide rate in the Country for so long, back in the 90s for sure.. "so much depends on the weather, so is it raining in your bed room"....STP RIP Scott Weiland. He couldn't escape the grips of what so many struggle with, heroin and opioids combined and compounded by depression. 😥🙏🔥♥️🎶🎸 Not all of it was dark or about death, there's quite a bit that's far from it. Gotta know Chris's story, man. He was highly aware and took measures to steer clear of what he saw steal those he cared about from his life.

Check out the footage of Chris singing Blow Up The Outside World I've linked below and you'll see exactly what I'm talking about. He sings off key, slurs his words and forgets lyrics to the song. Maybe disheveled, or not at 100%.....we've all been there. However, that in no way means you automatically end your one & only existence. I mean what successful artist goes back to there hotel room after a massive performance, on a massive tour, supporting their newest material to high acclaim.... Then breaks 9 of their own ribs, snaps their own neck breaking it in 12 different spots, bashes in the back of their own head creating a major head wound, then casually hangs themselves with a damn bungee cord from a 6 ft door jam? This story is in no way over with. So much more credible info out there. Look it up folks. Don't be skeered.

Let me help you. As a recovering opiate addict, Chris should NEVER have been prescribed benzodiazepines for anxiety. They're seriously potent and lull users into reckless behavior they are completely unaware of while they're in it. He told Vicki he might have taken a couple extra when she called. Sober since 2002, the old addict behavior got him going. One pill makes you feel good and relaxed, so a few more must be better. And the really dangerous part of those drugs is that they make everything sound like a great idea, including heroin after 15 years of sobriety. I think he snuck a little dope off stage and the come-down hours later in his room was enough to make him realize what he'd done. I watched a close friend of mine go through exactly the same shit. All the while telling me -- as fucked up as he was -- that doctor's prescribe benzos to help heroin addicts with symptoms of withdrawal. I thought then and still think now that the only docs that do that are idiots or Yes-Men and that Chris's doc was like Michael Jackson's and Elvis's. Giving a heroin addict benzos is like giving a recovering alcoholic opiates. It's destructive and should be prosecuted. Chris didn't have to die.

Band sounded great but seemed very out of it (no vitality), his vocals were wispy and his phrasing was often lagging and misplaced. Some fans were defending him on the comments and others were wondering what was going on. Whatever happened suicide or not something had been going on for a while. Chris always suffered from depression, that is well documented. Looking at the concert he seems high, but he is also angry and that shows in his interaction with the audience. If you suffer from depression those thoughts are always there, they just eat away at you bit by bit. I think his suicide was impulsive and something triggered it. If he didn't know what he was doing as has been suggested then he would not have had the presence of mind to lock two doors and re-arrange his ripped up flight ticket on his guitar case. He just wanted privacy and to be alone which makes his death so tragic. What a terrible waste.

That’s not an uncommon thing in the industry. But anyone at the show who claimed they knew something was very amiss at the time is a bald faced liar. All they’re doing is trying to create a story to explain a subsequent event.

If he was murdered and his killers go unpunished and we find no justice for Chris and all the others who fell to the wretched . May the people of the future look upon the past with shame and anguish but also learn from these dark times and use their morals, bravery and intuition to prevent, stop or bring justice to any chaos merchants carrying out there evil and selfish ways and may these fiends find no temple or refuge and the warrior in us and the children of the future show no quarter.

Watch Spoonman, and see the BG sneak up behind Chris and grab what looked clearly like a pharmacy pill bottle. The BG was dosing him, then was the last one to see him in his room, then when Chris wouldn't answer his hotel room door, the hotel staff denied him access, the body guard denied access? Sounds like Chris was getting a bad vibe from him. Chris's disheveled condition was not only ignored by all bandmates, with a brazen obvious determination to not notice what they had to know wasn't right, very suspicious.. not to mention he was going in waves of a disheveled extreme to a lesser degree as if he was drugged at the time by something very close to that of a date rape drug such as Rohipnol. That would do exactly that and conveniently, I found out recently they do not test for it in ERs or during autopsies at all, despite the fact people still get "roofed" to this day. It's not legal here in the US, but the government website lies and says it was never prescribed here. It sure as sh** was, back in the early 90's for sure, but now it's just part of the illegal drug trafficking that gets smuggled into the states. OK, but they know Roche developed this extra strength benzodiazepine, its generic chemical name and its half life in the system, (up to 26 hours) So don't tell us it can't be detected in a blood test and that it was never prescribed here ever. Had the body guard switched out or even just put something (rohipnol dissolves easily in liquid, and then he dosed him with Ativan giving him an extra one or two pills. GHB the same. That would have rendered Chris helpless to defend himself
and explain his slurred words while speaking to his wife on the phone. He also was supposedly turning the lights on and off from a phone app, which was maybe a distress signal or Martin the Guard of Chris's lifeless body accidentally doing that by ending his communication ability. In any case, Chris did not kill himself, no way, and the whole band deserted him, and that is beyond hideous negligence towards someone who should have been like family to them, in fact, I agree with many who believe they should have taken a break during this last gig to check on their frontman, the fact they didn't is questionable as to their complicity in his demise. Their total disregard for music Chris wrote that wasn't for them, but for Vicky and his children, as specified legally, is even more telling. And Vicky was kind enough to compromise with them on conditions that allowed them to use the music they had no rights to whatsoever, which they breached, leaving her with no choice but to fight back to retain what Chris wanted in a difficult lawsuit, which the band members brought on themselves by stabbing Chris, his wishes and his widow, who thought of these guys as friends, like family, in the back. She gets much undue skewering by envious, nasty bullies online as it is. Anyone who thinks this wasn't devastating enough to be treated with such a heartless disregard by her late husband's long time bandmates who would be nothing without Chris Cornell, and will never be anything Soundgarden again since Chris's passing, then have to respond to such atrocious acts against her with a dreaded lawsuit is something she'd desire knowing how the haters are, are imbeciles, ( basically only the ignorant mentally deficient haters themselves) and they have proven their predictability already with the piling on and vicious smears against Vicky with the nastiest, most ignorant and uninformed, undue attacks anyone, especially the one representing Chris's wishes should ever have to endure. I hope she wins, as the Truth and what's right, defined by the law, is on her side, not to mention all of Chris's real fans across the World as well. We stand with Chris and Vicky Cornell. How dare you Kim, Matt, and Benedict?! How f***ing DARE you! Your time will come, and many of us saw through you at this last concert. His end is Yours. Exploiting his grieving wife with young children is beyond low, you're the last of the snakes for which a new time for honest men comes, your legacy is dead, Chris's lives on Forever leaving you in the dusty rearview.

From what I've read it sounded like he had taken too many of his anxiety/depression meds that day, and that can really mess you up. I believe he was feeling low and anxious before the concert and took extra meds and that backfired on him, leaving him vacant and robotic during the show. I have no doubt he really committed suicide. He may have been out of his mind and not himself at all when he died, and had he not taken extra meds to stay level that day he very well could still be alive.
If you're on meds, stick to the schedule and don't double dose if you skip or miss one. Take your treatment seriously and don't wing it. And if you don't feel right, get help.
    RIP Chris

Also I heard he drove from California to Detroit because his aircraft had problems and he didn't want to chance it. Does that sound suicidal? That dude was 6'4" he could literally sit on the floor with that band around his neck and breathe fine. A friend tried it who's shorter than Chris. • @ibrown3KC

I don't know that Chris's death was a suicide or not, but why would he have been driving from California to Detroit when they had just done another Midwest show in my hometown of Kansas City, Missouri, just 3 days prior? And do you have any idea how long it would take to drive from Cali to Detroit? A heck of a lot longer than it would take to simply wait for the next flight. And I'm not sure where you heard he was in Cali, but it's 2,283 miles, or a 33 hour nonstop drive, from LA to Detroit, or if he was leaving from San Francisco it's even farther/longer at 2,394 miles, or a 35 hour nonstop drive. And so, considering it's basically a 2 day drive from anywhere in Cali to Detroit, I'd say it's highly unlikely he drove from Cali to Detroit, especially when their previous show was in Kansas City, Missouri, just a few days before. It simply doesn't make since.
That aside, his death is definitely suspicious, but spreading false rumors doesn't help things.

For many years a good friend of mine was chief engineer-operator over all the mechanicals and HVAC systems at the Fox Theater in Detroit. Many times he took me for tours of the building, both empty and once during a live show. His office was first door at bottom of stairs stage right.
In my mind i can plainly see Chris walking off that stage and thru those cooridors. Can even imagine the back lot and him getting into his vehicle for his very last show.
As a man close to age as Chris, and me being from Detroit and knowing that building, these mean streets and how crippling depression can be, its as if my mind cant stop re-creating that evening. The ride to the casino hotel just a few minutes away. And the darkness.
That night May 17 i would have been sleeping at the time when Chris was going through his own personal hell just a few miles from where i laid my head to rest. Next morning may 18 remember feeling a peculiar kind of off at work that day. Then we hear the news blast thru the shop speakers playing a local radio talk show. This news about the loss of this man as announced that morning.
It didnt make sense. Being at work there was no time to actually stop and think of it all so it was almost like it didnt happen. However sure enough later that day we all were forced to accept this reality of the loss of Chris Cornell.
Depression is real. Its running rampant. If its ugly head is not in your family or friends or neigbors then maybe its in YOU. I deal with depression daily on a ridiculous deep level. Yet it always helps me help others.

I can't stand when they say that "chris was killed"
THERE IS NO EVIDENCE FOR GOD'S LOVE. THAT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE.
Have you read or researched Chris's life, have you looked into his eyes?
This man had been struggling with depression for most of his life, he admitted. The following facts from Chris's life have been thoroughly researched by me:
Chris had a hard childhood, he knew drugs when he was very young, he was not very close to his brothers, he never received support in music in his family, he did it for himself, and the only time we knew how his father was, he went to Through his brother, who said he was a very bad father and they were afraid of him, he did not show love.
Chris lost the people he most admired and loved in his life tragically; Grunge scene people, Layne, Jeff, Kurt, Andy (the latter was probably Chris's soul mate, like a brother, he had all the characteristics Chris loved in a person), 20 years later, chris was literally still crying, You can see it in Pearl Jam 20.
When he parted ways with Soundgarden he went into a deep depression and attempted suicide, when he started his solo career and had children, his life brightened again in moments.
On his twitter he only remembered his mother-in-law as the best mother he could have wished for, the Karayiannis always treated Chris with a lot of family love, like a son, his wife's family was always the best support for him .
Chris was never a rockstar, he always liked being surrounded by lots of love, being listened to, and childish people who made him feel alive, these were qualities he loved and admired.
Chris was always a very very sensitive and lonely man, he was affected by pain and bad human behavior, it was also part of his charm as an artist, but he was not comfortable in this life, he was not narcissistic, he liked simple things, very simple .
Chris fell into depression again in recent years, we don't know why but now we can get an idea, he consumed something that he didn't tell his wife to forget the pain, which caused her to be disappointed in him, perhaps and caused a abrupt ending.
Soundgarden's lyrics and Chris Cornell as a soloist are very powerful and very dark, it was the essence of him, Chris was fascinated to deal with human emotions and death in rock above anything else.
Chris' latest album "Higher Truth" is basically his person, everything he is, what he loves, what he feels and what he admires, like a letter to the world of his vision of it, why not say it, a letter from farewell.
When people say they don't understand his suicide it's because they didn't really know his life and his pain or because they only cared about the "untouchable rock star", he was more than that, he was very deppressed the last days of his life, his suicide It never seemed out of the norm to me.
At his funeral the only affected people I saw were Brad Pitt, Chester Bennington, Dave Ghrol, and a few I don't know, I couldn't be laughing at his funeral, I would be DEVASTATED.
    You are sorely missed Chris.

That's possible and a fair perception. Personally I think that he seemed strong and willfull enough mentally to withstand something like that but my opinion on him is subjective as I never met him sadly and no one could read his mind.
However, I already steer toward the reality of him being murdered as there are so many elements to his death that cast reasonable doubt on a suicide. So much suspicion man but at the end of the day we were robbed of him regardless of what happened.

I was there that night...i just want to say thank you for presenting this video the way you have. There has been much speculation among people and most of the people weighing in couldnt even name a soundgarden song. You approached the subject very respectively, i applaud that.

I remember this day, very odd. I wanted to listen to Soundgarden and Chris Cornell more than anything else. I felt like his soul had left his body. It was so odd... I’ll never forget it

Chris' demeanor at the concert venue speaks volumes. To end his own life almost directly after the concert means he must have already decided before the concert. It's too sad to think about.

Hard to know what happened .He really was something .The range of his voice was amazing .I have played gútar for a long time and I can't figure out how the fuck he sang and played some of those songs. The thing is I don't think he would leave his family behind. But I don't know depression, fame, being away from your family, everybody wanting everything you've got every night for decades.Hard to say. This one hurts.

He clearly was on xanax during the show.. anyone who has abused it can tell immediately by his speech and the way he is walking and singing. Secondly, if you have ever abused xanax you know that falls are very very common. He clearly had suffered a fall, now the concussion from this could have , in combination with the xanax been what caused the suicidal ideation.

I hear ya! Being from NYC the buzz over Dylan's performances while playing in "The Village" were Unforgettable! Last I saw him, he looked "propped up" But then again, so does Keith Richards! I don't know, but I want whatever they're on! LOL..

it only takes to have one of those days that you feel strange with yourself, tired, or just simply sick so that everything that you may do on stage may suffer as well
but i do not think Cornell ended his life
i just will never see it happening
whoever killed him i hope they will burn in the worst kind of eternal Hell

Yeah but I saw several performances with him acting strange, erratic and singing horribly whenever I looked up videos from the recent Soundgarden tour. I remember before he passed away I was curious to hear how the band sounded and it was always the same thing when I watched a UA-cam. Band sounded great but he was baffling to me. Seemed like a ghost physically and his performance was just weird...

Concussion makes sense - there are plenty of pics of that show where he seems to be missing a chunk of hair on the back of his head, or some such head injury.

Cornell is a hard guy to read. I've seen him several times and was at the final show. Some of the stuff being said was overblown. It wasn't obvious that he was "off". Some of the fans saw him in front of the venue before they left for the hotel. They would be the ones to ask.
