I love all the old sitcoms!! Mamas family, golden girls, good times, all in the family Archie's place, Maude Jeffersons, Sanford and son threes company! They don't make them like those any more!!
You always put me in a good mood even on my sad days. I love your content. This brings me back to a better time. You’re a great guy Jordan. Thank you so much!
Another great vlog!! Vicki Lawrence is one of my favorite actresses and I love Mama's Family! What makes me love it even more so is I graduated from Raytown High School in Missouri! We like to think Mama's Family is about our town. There is an episode that mentions 63rd Street which is a major street in Raytown. Also a little more Raytown trivia Cynthia Fee who sings the theme song for the Golden Girls is also a Raytown graduate. We are Raytown proud!
@@monicatdelgado1971 Vicki Lawrence says in an interview on UA-cam that the characters and the southern vibe of the show came from Carol's "Texas and Arkansas roots."
I am a big Mama's Family fan so I really enjoyed this. Keep up the good work. I use to imagine what it would be like to have the Harper's for neighbors! LOL!!
My favorite episode was when rue went before a judge and confessed she took the tag off the mattress that was not supposed to be removed!! Love that show!!
My sister was in school with Vicki Lawrence, and, I went to school with her younger sister, Joni in Inglewood CA. Joni and I were pretty good friends in school in 1967/68. They moved out of Inglewood, and I never heard from her again. Too bad they didn't have social media in those days. We could have kept in touch! 🤔
Love Mama's Family! But FYI, shoes that are hanging across wires like that is one way that drug dealers "communicate" ( i.e. territory markings) It also let's potential "customers" know that drugs are sold in that area.
Mama's Family is 👌👌 I love when iconic locations look exactly the same. Makes me happy! Edited: I wasn't done watching and i just got to the Halloween part lol! So cool!
My uncles and aunts lived in that house. It's an attic upstairs, but that's it. The entire set was made in Hollywood. This is an actual house but the people that live there don't like people coming onto their property all the time. The set was made in Hollywood, but the house is real. There are people that live there, but they don't like to be disturbed. The top floor is basically a dump of an attic. I know this because my aunt lived there. It's a nice house though, but Hollywood made it seem so much bigger than it really is. It's located in Hollywood, near the Palm Springs area. Halloween was also filmed in that location. The set was the only thing that made this house famous, the house itself was just a basic home with an attic that everyone could see through. It was an awful looking house from the outside but it had Hollywood style. I do love this house though.
@@DazewithJordantheLion it is I live for it every week night even thrw it's reruns I love it There will never be a show like that ever again nothing can ever replace it ever I was born in 83 when it came out I have always wanted to see the house man that was cool to see it
Correction to the video: The Carol Burnett Show ended in 1978/79 and Mama's Family debuted in 1983. So Vikki didn't leave the Carol Burnett show to make Mama's Family, as the Carol Burnett show was already over.
Amazing! I'd always assumed a crew went to a town in Missouri, to do the outside shot of Thelma's house (in my head, it was Sikeston, which is about as close to a real-life Raytown as you're likely to find). And I figured that the town in 'Halloween' was somewhere in Central California - not LA. But with LA's endless variety of topography and microclimates, you can find pretty-much any 'look' you want (probably a big reason for the Film Industry's remaining there).
Hi Jordan, I agree with all of the positive praises that folks have posted! Your videos are informative, entertaining, and historical time capsules. I think that in the episode where Naomi had the baby she decided to name the baby Thelma. Thank you for your videos on UA-cam!!
I loved Mama’s Family even loved it on the Carol Burnett show. Never knew why Vince’s kids left and never said anything about them anymore. They named the baby Tiffani Thelma or Thelma Tiffani I cannot remember which one.
Shoes on the powerline is too mark your neighborhood. It has been used by gangs but not started by gangs. Some also consider it to be goodluck for being able to return home.Military etc
Traditionally, whenever you would see a pair of sneakers up on a wire in front of someone's house, it usually meant, "Drugs sold here". In my neighborhood in NY, anyway. Just my two cents. :)
That park is on Santa Monica Blvd. not far from where I live. I live near Capitol Records. Mama's Family is such a great show. Halloween is my favorite movie. I'll have to go to South Pasadena and check out the location for myself. Thanks.
I didn't know the reason they cancelled the show was Vickie just being tired of playing in it. That makes me sad. The ending never really felt right to me.
Thanks for all the cool vlogs. I’m enjoying them. You said it would be cool if somebody was binge watching your vlogs. Well that’s what I’m doing. I’m a year behind but by Thanksgiving I’m hoping I’ll be caught up.
You bring great vlogs Jordan, everything is enjoyed by this viewer. I am learning about people and places I did not know so a big shout out to you. Cuddles for Jah, Over in my country people started putting shoes, bras on fences.....go figure
I would watch the original airings, when I was a teenager. Now I watched the show's rerun's with my mom here in L.A., on Sundays 5:00, and 5:30. I was wondering if the show was filmed in Pasadena, because the house looks like many homes in Pasadena. I would say to my mom that the house looks like a house that maybe located in Pasadena. She said, "Or maybe Monrovia." I said no. I don't know why I knew that it was Pasadena and not Monrovia, because Monrovia has similar homes that look like that. I googled it, and yes the house is in South Pasadena. I was right, since I had driven past the city back when I did promotions for Ralph's grocery store, and I would do my sister in law favors and deposit money at her postal credit union located in S. Pasadena. I would see homes similar to the one on Mama's family..
I love the show and still watch it. So hilarious. Vicky Lawrence had another show recently called The Cool Kids. It disappeared shortly but was really funny.
I know for sure, that home owners and tenants receive money for allowing the filming..I was talking with a realtor, and he told me that he can hook me up to allow filming of my home, but I haven't purchased a house yet.. FYI, the house was sold on February 28 1996.. When the filming took place, there were other people living there..
It's very interesting how a Carol Burnett sketch ended up turned into a fairly successful sitcom. It's very unusual and I'm not surprised that NBC wanted to kill it as soon as they could. Fortunately it got picked up and they made what I think are the four best seasons, from 3 to 6. Thanks!
One of the most commonly believed reasons shoes are thrown over power lines is to signal the location of a crack house or prime drug dealing spot. Dangling shoes can also be the symbol of gang members claiming territory, especially when the shoes are hanging from power lines or telephone wires in an intersection.
they wrote off Vinton's kids off the show going off to college and wrote in eunince's son bubbba replacing Sonja and buzz and brought in iola boylin the next door neighboor
Mamas family was great loved it we had some awsome movies filmed here in west mich couple of places they made movies at are down the street from my house

You mentioned where Mr. Ed was filmed , and that got me thinking that I wondered where the house was that they showed in the opening shot. I tried to do some research, but was unseccussful . Do you know??
Shoes on The Wire means drugs can be bought in the area. My nephew's and niece's told me that years ago LOL. Seriously none of us use drugs but they knew that cuz they were teenagers who knew everything.
I think this is my all-time favorite sitcom. I have every show memorized. It’s like the TV version of comfort food for me. Thanks Jordan!
