Once I cut the cable cord I started watching the local stations so I started watching Alice again. Still laugh and love the show.
The person who consistently cracks me up most consistently is Vera (Beth Howland) because she's a total goofball. The interaction between Mel and Vera is comedy gold. Howland was obviously a superbly talented actress because she makes Vera innocently heart rending, yet at the same time hilarious. I wish I could have written her a fan letter, or spoken to her personally to express how many times her performance picked me up when I was feeling down.
I used to watch Alice as a kid.Loved the show.Flo was my favorite with her slogan to Mel! Kiss My Grits
I can hear her now! Mel with three syllables 😂❤.
The show just wasn't the same after Flo left.😔

Which actor’s story in this video touched you the most? I was especially moved by the tragic circumstances of Charles Levan’s death, but I’d love to hear who resonated with you and why. Feel free to share your thoughts!
I believe she had a spin-off
Enjoyed Alice. May those performers Rest In Peace 🕊️
Now you can add Linda Lavin to the cast members who passed away.
from lung cancer
@@DONUTBUZZCUTI always thought of Her as beautiful....
I temrmber Dave madden as Reuben Kincaid on the partridge family .
I loved the show growing up. I still watch it.
❤😊I absolutely loved watching this show as a kid and thanks for sharing these.
Cut the crap!!!
It’s unbelievable how YOUNG some of these people were, but they looked So MUCH OLDER.
For some reason, as pretty as she was, Beth Howland always looked much older to me! Maybe due to smoking? Everyone used to smoke before the 1980s!!
Probably smoking 🚬
There’s a lot of information out there about this interesting fact. Many people say the reason people from the past looked so much older is because of their hairstyles-that we perhaps subconsciously associate with older people today.
I watched a video on you tube about the surprisingly young ages of the “Cheers” cast. Norm looked way older. He was only 34 when he started the show.
Before botox, face lifts, skin care lines. In the 70s people smoked cigarettes indoors and didn't really work out or eat healthier.
Smoked cigarettes indoors!!! That's funny!!!.. LoL😂@@lorikennedy1127
Alice(Linda Lavin age:86 ),Flo(Polly Holiday age:87) and Isabella (Diane Ladd age:88) Flo's replacement actress.They are still alive in 2024.
Linda Lavin is alive. Polly died a good many yearsago and if i had to guess id say Diane Ladd is gone too though more recent than Polly
Polly Holliday was born July 2, 1937
As of 10\02\24 is still among the living!
🤗 🙏🏾 🤗
@@ryvr2037Polly is alive and so is Diane Ladd.
Diane Ladd played Flo in the movie Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore. Which of course, is what the show was based on.
Polly and Diane are still alive.
RIP Linda Lavin Oct. 15, 1937 -- Dec. 28, 2024
My parents owned a restaurant and one of the customers wrote the book about Alice from the characters in the restaurant. She changed enough details in the book so my parents could have no claim to it. The restaurant was named Mel and Ruby's diner
What was this customers name
I once saw the movie version of the sitcom...It's titled Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore. @@butterflyforeve
That show was so fun. I was really young, but I watched it with my niece who close to my age. But we are from the Bible Belt south, and Flo’s “‘Kiss My Gritts” was kind of an allowable way to tell someone to “kiss-off” without getting in trouble with your Mama or Teachers or whomever. 😂
I can still hear Carrie (Martha Raye) calling Mel, "tubby", LOL
Philip did not grow up in his sister’s shadow. He became famous first.
Yes, I thought they were equally famous! Philip was a couple of years older, right?
@@Jasmine215100 yes, Philip was two years older.
@@Jasmine215100Not only was Philip older than Nancy, but "Alice": premiered 3 years before "The Facts of Life" and Nancy wasn't on the show at the beginning. By the time she appeared as Jo (1980), "Alice" was in it's 5th season.
❤love this show
Alice was a great show and I liked Flo's catchphrases like" Kiss My Grits! Just not too long ago got the last few seasons of the show so I have all nine seasons can watch it any time I want.
That's not Beth howlands picture in the older picture. It's the actress Alice Drummond
The poster should fix it
Someone pointed that out already.
The older version you have of Vera is not the same woman. That woman is actually Alice Drummond.
Oh KISS MY GRITS!😡
😂 😂 😂 😂 😂
THX for pointing that out.
Vera had beautiful light blue eyes
@@franklinfx She was such a DINGY!
I loved that show. It had a cast of wonderful actors who all had a very natural chemistry together
Loved this show !
Wrong picture of Beth Howland, that is Alice Drummond, i guess since her first name is Alice perhaps.....
Let's be honest Mel (Vic Tyback) having a heart attack didn't seem a surprise. On the show, he always looked as if he was about to have one at any moment.
I liked the show alot. Thanks for the video, but I don't think the older lady you have labeled as Beth Howland is really her. The nose is completely different, and the older woman had brown eyes, while Beth Howland had blue eyes. If you look at the side-by-side pics you'll see what I mean. I did enjoy the video tho.
You are correct. That is NOT Beth Howland. That is Alice Drummond who was also in the movie Awakenings. Does this channel do any research??
you are correct. It is a picture of Alice Drummond. She was the nice old lady in the movie "Funny Farm" (1988) with Chevy Chase.
Hearing about the lives of these talented actors is truly moving. Which cast member's story resonated with you the most, and why? Let’s share our thoughts and memories in the comments!
Yea. The lady on the right ain't Beth Howland.
@lusmas99 thank u for the info 🙂
That picture of Beth Howland as an older woman isn’t Beth Howland. That is a picture of Alice Drummond
The picture of the older woman is not Vera. Thats another actress
Lisa: "Who have you been sending hate mail too all these years?"
Bart: "Linda Lavin?"
Lisa: "No, someone who didn't deserve it."
All time classic comedy 🙂👍
I watched Phillip's sister's show" The Facts of Life on TV plus I now have the entire series on DVD.
Marvin Kaplan was a very nice man. Believe it or not we met at mutual friends funeral.
I chatted with him on Facebook. He was very nice, so was Phil McKeon.
Beth Holland was married to a favorite character of mine from Bonnie and Clyde, Michael J. Pollard whom played C.W. Moss in Bonnie and Clyde, and as cousin Virgil ( Barney Fife's cousin) in the Andy Griffith show.
I would watch this back in the 70s
Alice Drummond is pictured as the older Beth Howland in this video (Vera). Alice Drummond was in films such as Too Wong Foo, Ghostbusters (1984), Awakenings and In & Out. She passed away at 88 11/2016.
Loved this show
I would’ve liked a simple two liner about the living characters. You can’t speak of wonderful actors in the sitcom without Alice and Florence G. Castleberry yes? My great grandmother taped everything and I would have not known of such a wholesome show.
That picture of Beth Howland when she died wasnt her. It was Alice Drummond!
the boys aka Vic Tayback & Phillip Mc Keon were taken too soon
R.I.P linda of alice
I really liked Diane Ladd on the show, but I heard Ms Lavin wasn't feeling it. Alice was supposed to be the smart one and Diane easily could had been the star of the show
Linda Lavin, Polly Holliday and Celia Weston are still alive in 2024. I like 👍 them.
I was fond of the late Philip McKeon. He was older than me.
I liked 👍 the late Jerry Reed. He was 1 of the (American) country music singers I remember when I was a young boy 👦.
RIP to all.
Linda Lavin passed away on 29 December 2024, same day as former President Carter. She was 87.
So many of these AI videos have comment sections where people comment more on the flubs and inaccuracies present in the videos. What a sad way to be thanked for your work but it's well deserved because most of the flubs are easily avoided with proper research. These channels that make these videos always strike me as lazy and only interested in subs and ultimately making a living off of these. This video is well made despite the few flubs so I'm not including this one with those that are lazy. The creator obviously made plenty of research as it goes into much detail. Probably too much. I got impatient watching each actor. Takes too long but having too much info is better than having too little or inaccurate info so good job.
I used to see Nedra Volz shopping atthe grocery store in Upland CA early 90s
She also was on the Dukes of Hazzard as Miss Tisdale from the post office.
Nedra Volz was also the maid on "Different Strokes".
I think CBS missed a golden opportunity to give Carrie her own spinoff; she was a pistol!😂😂😂😂
How tragic, they all died of old age.
I met Mr. Tayback once. He was absolutely delightful. And very handsome in person.
Great show........
RIP and thank you all.
I really liked Beth Howland and Philip Mckeon
Awe...I watched this on CBC Canada in the early 90's❤
That's not a picture of Beth Howland old , I remember that actress from a comedy movie but Not Howland
Warren Berlinger and William Shatner look so much alike, they could have played brothers.
Nope....
That's not Vera!!
Tbh, i only remember like 4 or 5 out of all these people in that show
Don't waste your time. All of these people, with the exception of Alice's kid (died at 55 after a long illness?) lived long lives and died of natural causes. These AI scripts are insufferable.
Also note the stock pic of Beth Howland (5:03) has Alice the librarian as the "now" pic...I guess the obvious difference in eye color, nose shape, and face shape wasn't a clue... I sincerely hope this slapped together process is never used in identifying a criminal.
5:57 That's not Beth Howland, it's Alice Drummond.
.42 Marvin Kaplan (Henry) was my favorite customer co star of Alice
This needs an update due to the recent death of Linda Lavin.
Gen x
Gen z
Linda Lavin died of Lung Cancer.
You forgot to mention that Doris Roberts also was an author and wrote some books as well.
I forgot to mention..KISS MY GRITS!😡
Here I am wondering how I didn't know Tony Longo died. Always reliable in the role of a heavy.
Linda Lavin is still very much alive. Someone needs to warn her about that snake in her toilet though.
Yeah, I was like, what is that?
No I never wondered about all that BUT THAT SHOW WAS FUNNY 😊
That elderly women at 5:00 isn't Vera.. the eyes, nose and chin are completely different
I remember her in a few bit role movies but can't think of titles.
And there was Mel's Navy friend (Lou)? played by Burt Young
Yes, yes......each and every one of these endearing, lovable actors poured their hearts out & left an indelible mark on every single viewer across the world who ever viewed a single episode of "Alice." And to think that they all actually had their own personal battles to face with courage and dignity.Jesus Christ. Who the hell wrote this saccharine slop?
Don't take Jesus Christ's name in vain but otherwise I agree.
@@robing9364 Surely I'll go to hell for that one infraction alone.
@@luckylambdin8269 I did not mean to sound preachy, just reminding you like I have to remind myself & Jesus forgives anyway.
@@robing9364 And all human beings "need" forgiveness for existing, I guess.......
This is the second time I have tried to watch a video from this creator. The first one I watched was eight is enough. What facts were wrong and photos of incorrect people were shown. Now I'm watching this one about Alice and the first thing wrong is they show a picture of Vera in her uniform and then as an old lady. That old lady is not Beth Howland. The woman pictured was a great actress. Her name escapes me at the moment. She played in a lot of old movies and played character parts in more recent films. I'm not even sure if she's dead or alive to be honest. But I know for an absolute fact it is not Beth Howland. I am not going to go through and find any more mistakes. I'm done with these videos. I will no longer watch any of them since everything is not factual.
I mean I wouldn't call natural causes dying tragically.. I thought they had died in some tragic ways before I seen the video.. I do remember this show tho.. I liked it as a kid
That pic of Beth Howland as old is not her.
I miss Philip McKeon very much.
What was his cause of death? He seem kind of young. Actually, my age
@@chrissullivan5752- for some reason it's being kept secret. I've been trying to find out for a while now.
I've tried to find out, too, but to no avail.
I don't know why they won't say how Philip died but I guess that's there right.
He always seemed like such a sweet boy!!
What was the prolonged illness Philip Mckeon had?
I have wondered about this too! Was it cancer? Or something much worse? He was a very private person!!
I've never been able to find anything and I've searched. The family has always been very private about it. I have my thoughts but I will keep them to myself. If it's what I'm wondering, I can understand the privacy of the illness.
You forgot man customer #2! Such terrible negligence.
Damn if that is Phillip McKeon at 12. He looks damn near 30 😳
Dude can you get the correct names under the correct photos? This is like CNN.
That older picture of Vera is NOT Vera. For starters, the "old" picture has brown eyes, the young picture has blue.
That is Beth Howlands
Great show, terrible Ai writing
So is "Chuck" still alive ?
That lady on right by Vera isn't Beth. She was the old rapper in that Adam Sandler wedding movie
No. That was someone else and several people pointed out the fact that it wasn't Beth.
The older woman on the right you have listed as Beth Howland is not Beth Howland. She is an actually another actress who’s recently died named Alice Drummond who costarred in TO WONG FOO, THANKS FOR EVERYTHING, JULIE NEWMAR.
Linda lavin was jealous of Beth because she could tap dance and Polly because she received more laughs than she did
A friend of a friend did a handful of Alice episodes.
I know older Americans are more smarter than the younger people
You don't seem to know the definitions of "how" or "tragically" lol.
Time to update the video now that Linda is gone.
The picture of Howland when she died is wrong that was Alice Drummond from Ghost Busters.
That older picture wasn't Beth howland it's another actress get your information right please
Ha! Phillips career preceeded his sister Nancys'.
I used to watch it took place in fictional Phoenix Arizona😂
Tha customer at 0:22 looks like
JEFFREY DAHMER.
😬
That is Batman, Adam West.
That side by side of beth homeland is 2 completly different people
that's not Beth Howland *2nd photo
I never remembered Dave Madden in Alice.
R.I.P. Linda Lavin ❤
Google “put em back the way they was”. Beth Howland and a young Valerie Harper play frustrated wives in the song from Lil Abner
Ok. But they were getting old?
You have the WRONG picture update for Beth Howland that is NOT her that's an actress named Alice Drummond.
You're arguing with an AI
Did AI write this?! The script is ridiculous. They talked about “Earl Hicks” bringing warmth to humour. Earl was nothing but one liners and bit parts. lol also the title is pure clickbait
Rip Linda Lavin
Thats not Beth Howland-Beth had blue eyes. This lady does not.
