I remember Gilmore from when he played for the 69-70 Jacksonville Dolphins.
They were light n up teams scoring over 100 points per game during the College Regular Season playing an INDEPENDENT SCHEDULE.
All season long, Jacksonville was talk n smack boasting and calling themselves the Tallest Team in the Nation.
    Starting 5:
    F 7-0 Pembroke Burrows, C 7-2 Artis Gilmore, G 6-5 Rex Morgan, F 6-6 Greg Nelson, and G 5-10 Vaughn Wedeking.
In the NCAA Tournament they upset #1 Kentucky in the semi finals.
🗣But Unfortunately UCLA was waiting in the wings. They lost in the Finals to the
    # 2 Bruins.
UCLA led by its 2 book end Forwards Sidney Wicks and Curtis Rowe along with G Henry Bibby (all future NBA Players) shut down Jacksonville's high powered, high scoring machine like offense holding them well below their 100 PPG average and won going away in the Championship game.
Final Score UCLA 80 and Jacksonville 69.
🗣Lil bit of B Ball History regarding HOF Center Artis Gilmore before his ABA/NBA career.

The one game wilt played Kareem before he had his major knee injury, he comfortably outplayed Kareem both offensively and defensively.
After his knee operation he was never the same player but still in the playoffs blocked 23 Kareem Abdul-Jabbar shots, that might not sound much, but his physical prowess was reduced by the injury yet he still made it tough for a great opponent like Kareem, remarkable isn't the word for it!
Wilt according to a credible witness single-handed moved a large boat on a trailer into its parking space without effort, Artis & Nate Thurmond being the only two centres who could have possible matched that feat, they truly had a reputation for strength!

First regular season match-up between Artis and Kareem took place on 11/28/76, after Artis joined the lowly Bulls team. The Lakers won by 19 and Gilmore had 16 points (6-18 from the field) and 10 rebounds; Kareem had 21 points (10-18) and 14 rebounds. Gilmore was splitting time with Bulls center Tom Boerwinkle, who scored 10 pts and grabbed 8 boards. Jabbar also so limited action - only played 26 minutes.
Gilmore had a much better second game against Jabbar. On 12/7/76, the Bulls defeated the Lakers in a low scoring 89-81 game. Gilmore stats: 22 pts (10-17), 12 reb, 4 blks. Jabbar: 13 pts (5-10), 7 reb, 4 blks.

Artis never played against Wilt in the regular season as Wilt was in the NBA until 1973, and Artis was in the ABA, and there was no cross leauge play. There were exhibition season and they may have played in some pickup games. Artis' best team was the 1983 Spurs who pushed Kareem's Lakers to 6 games in the WCF.
