Thanks for your fine review. One thing I appreciate is that when you test the lens, you actually make good photos with them, not just showing spec results, but a true artistic vision with them.
Pav, your reviews are so helpful, and your enthusiasm is contagious! I particularly enjoy the aesthetics of your setup (purple backlights etc.), and especially your photographic samples, which are themselves very inspiring. I wish there were a way to browse the photos you shared in the video. Will check out your instagram!
Very informative video. Looks very nice, although I wish Panasonic would make a 28mm lens instead! I think that's even more ideal overall, at least for me.
I wait for this lens since I bought S5, but no for this price. You can have Sigma 24mm 1.4 for less. I need some Fast lens for astrophoto, but there are almost all year clouds, so I need something less expensive. Now I have TTARTISAN 11mm F2.8.
Hi Pav, I have the S5 with a this lens. I’m a beginner, I’ve heard great things about the 50 and 85 mm. If I’m learning and will be using for mostly indoor and motorcycle shoots, would you suggest getting the other two or is this a pretty comfortable lens to learn and get great shots with? Thank you!
nothing wrong with this lens at all but it does only give you semi-wide look and nothing in between. 35mm is more versatile as all rounder. 50mm and 85 are completely different tools for different jobs. I personally like 50mm for everything
Thanks! Sun stars are good. Good optics here. Unfortunately I didn't put the photo showing them in my review - I've run out of space to add more. Sorry
can you show how does it look with a crop? 4k 60p with lumix s5/s1/s1h. I've got 50mm and film a lot 4k 60p but this crop is a killer when I don't have enough space to move back for a shot.
Great review/preview as usual. I wonder how this compares with the Nikkor S 24mm f1.8 in terms of image quality and rendering. These lenses are in the same price range as the Nikkor f1.8 primes, maybe a touch less. Also, how does it compare with the Sigma f3.5?
Men do not think too much, when it's 50 - 85 its "normal " prices when you go lower 35 , if you want a -f2.8 lenses prices goes skyrocket, even if myself i don't udnerstand but any 24 mm 1.4-1.8 ff on any company is really expensive. would you take 24 panasonic 1.8 or sigma 24 f2 Dg dn if i had to put this price i would pick 16-28 f2.8 dg dn
Thank you! For a 24 mm focal length, I don't usually need such a wide f-stop. Since I have the S 24-105 already, do you think this lens would add any significant value? I mainly shoot videos
This is problem I am having with purchasing the 18mm or 24mm (the price). The thought process why not just go get the 2.8s from Sigma since most of this work will be on a gimbal…. ($800-$1000😮) for a single focal range or just get the Sigma 16-28 & 28-70 and make the light work. These 2 are hard ones for me to decide on.
@@PavSZ 😅 I guess so for my Gimbal work. I run my 35, 85, 100 & 135 Primes on my other S5 II bodies, but this designated Gimbal lens has a task to decide on 😅as I need to go wider. Have you had a chance to use the 28-70 on a gimbal yet ? Keep up the great work Pav 🚀
@@pureheartvisuals you use 135mm on a gimbal??!!! I have tested Sigma 28-70 long time ago. It should easily balance on a gimbal if you already use 135mm (or even 85mm). You will have to rebalance if you zoom in or out though
I am thinking of leaving the m4/3 system for a full frame system. Is there a problem in relation to light and deapth of field? M4/3 have a good ratio, but do I loose that going to full frame. Not everything is about shallow field of view...I think.
to clean dust from the lenses I usually use soft glass cleaning cloths but when out shooting I have wiped the glass with my t-shirt very often in the past.
Always use a blower first to get rid of particles that you could rub and erode the glass, after that use a clean microfiber cloth or a lens cleaning wet wipe etc.
4k 60p is not full frame, you do get around 35mm focal range but why would you think about it like that. It is a great overall 24mm, not just for shooting video at 60fps
I really want to buy this lens, it’s the only one I don’t have in the S prime set. But I’m shooting most of my work at 50fps on an S5, and it crops in anyway. So is there any point as I wouldn’t get the full 24mm with the crop? I’d be interested in anyone’s opinion. Thanks 🙏🏼
@@PavSZ Hi, I mean a decent quality for pay jobs and also if meet the standards off the others Cameras uses for this type of photography. Thanks in advance.
Pavlov, I think your channel and content are great, still, I would like all of you to be in focus, I get a bit offset of the shallow depth of field, I know it is something I look for in photo, but for me in video it is not as important, at least not when you have such a nice background. Please stop down a notch. Love our channel. Matts
Observing lots of disappointment over the price, but the farther you get from 40-50mm (in either direction), the more expensive fast glass becomes. The Nikon 24/1.8 costs even more ($1000).
@@FantabMedia sure, but third party lenses are always cheaper. Don't get me wrong, I would *love* for samyang to release their lenses for L-mount. (In particular I would be super-interested in the manual focus f/1.2 options with a built-in aperture control chip.) But for a native 24 f/1.8 with this level of sharpness, I think it is within range of reasonably priced.
Thanks for your fine review. One thing I appreciate is that when you test the lens, you actually make good photos with them, not just showing spec results, but a true artistic vision with them.
Thanks! I hate reviews with charts
As always another solid review Pav. Really love your style no nonsense, down to the point and good info.
Thank you so much!
Yes! New lumix lens 👍👍
Yes indeed!
I stumbled upon your videos a few days ago. Just wanted to thank you for your great content.
oh thank you very much!
I bought the lens today. Thank you for the review. It is similar price as the Nikon Z mount 20mm which I also own. I hope it is as good.
Good choice!
Great reviews, thanks.
Both the 24 and the 35 are priced quite a bit higher, and I'm also wondering why that is the case.
Good question!
I don't know why all the brands make 24mm so expensive.
Wow what?! The price is expensive, crazy. You can buy Almost the 24 105 f.4
it is what it is! Still a very good lens
It’s so odd seeing a Pav so late hahaha great review my friend!
haha! yes, those nice people from far east made me to post this late 😉
really nice review.. on video perspective that gimbal slow motion with this lens turned out great.. thanks!
Glad it was helpful!

yes!
Insightful. Thanks for the review. For the way you shoot, which one is more useful overall, this or the Sigma 24mm f3.5?
Very informative video. Looks very nice, although I wish Panasonic would make a 28mm lens instead! I think that's even more ideal overall, at least for me.
oh I don't know - 28mm isn't as standard as 24mm.
Great review.
Thanks!

Crying my eyes out at the proposed £799 price...but I'll still end up buying it FFS.
haha! that's how it works 😉
No way...not with that pulsing...Panasonic need to address this issue!

that wide aperture is surprisingly useful at that focal length, especially when shooting video

Sigma 16-28mm is a great lens. I'm using it on a gimbal a lot

I will be doing that review in the near future
At nearly half the price here in AU I'd probably spring for the Sigma 24mm f/2.
I would too .... although I do love this lens
very beautiful color rendering. A bit expensive.

I have never heard of a problem in relation to light and depth of field with m43 or full frame cameras
Would you choose the 50mm or 85 if you could only buy one? I already have the 20-60mm
I already have 😉 I chose 50mm
Hey Pav, what’s the best way to clean your camera lens? I’m starting to collect dust on my s5 lens and I’ve been afraid to clean it!

S5 makes this lens to crop mode like 35mm at 4k 60p. If anyone uses S5 4k 60p then this lens is must. And wait for 35mm or go for 50mm.
4k 60p is not full frame, you do get around 35mm focal range but why would you think about it like that. It is a great overall 24mm, not just for shooting video at 60fps
any lens crop at 60 in 4K on S5 x)
love that lens
me too! just bought it for myself as well

you'd get about 40mm - still worth is as it will be wider than your other S lenses (apart from 18mm) in 4k50p
You gotta do some comparison to the sigma 1.4s with the same focal lengths
I've only compared 85mm lenses side by side
how is the stabilization in this one? using video I mean.
no lens stabilisation on this lens but S5s stabilisation is world class to compensate for that
Hi, so this would be good enough for professional result in real estate photography/video in a S5 Camera?
what do you mean by "professional"?

@@alejandropoo5740 I think my samples in my video should really answer your question. This is just like other Lumix f1.8 lenses very good
Ah dang. That price... I guess I'll just stick with my 20mm heavy monster of a Viltrox lens for now.
nice! such a nice lens ;)
I would love to have it, but it is too expensive. I hoped it will be somewhere around the 50 mm.. so this one wont be for me..

my backgrounds are only nice because I use shallow depth of field.
It's a personal choice and I do like it
That price is crazy it’s a no for me, I’m waiting on the 35mm
we just have to accept it. 35mm could cost the same
@@PavSZ yiiiikkkeeessss thats a scary thought

no, this is a full frame L-mount lens. GH5 is micro four thirds
