you know, the 'it looks like a car from the 90s' I think perfectly encapsulates the issue I have with literally every lego set that's meant to replicate a modern sports car. I think the way lego pieces work just inherently creates this look like they're trying to reimagine the cars as pre-turn of the century designs.

It almost reminds me of a GTA vehicle where they tweak aspects of the design and mix design cues from other cars so they're able to avoid lawsuits.

I agree, this looks nothing like the actual car, atleast none more than it looks like ten other cars I can think of.

I really like the smaller scale of some of these recent Technic vehicles. Allows for a denser more functional model than some of the more hollowed out car builds. This feels very similar in scale to the Ford Raptor, and Batmobile which for me personally is about as big as I really need anything to be. Value is very good even at 150 Canadian and definitely one I'm considering building in the future.

Thanks Jang! Of all the reviewers currently you're the only one who's expressed the minor flaw in the rear spoiler mechanism. It is amazing to see this function on such a small set packed with the other functions from the big hollow 1:10 scale cars, but it could do with a re-design so that it operates more smoothly. I'm thinking of making a fix for it and providing instructions. Still, it's a great set at good value.

The wing function on mine works a lot better but it took more finagling to make sure the linkages were loose enough to not bind.

The best way to compare this Ford GT is to another Lego Ford GT... in my local Lego store, this is actually quite close to the Creator Expert Ford from a few years ago. This new set has slightly more pieces, but retails for $50 aud LESS than the old Creator one. Considering all the recolours and newer parts that they are working with, I'm glad they didn't price this higher. I think the price of this set is VERY reasonable.

Visually it looks great I'm more than satisfied and pleased with how the 2022 GT transitioned in LEGO Technic it being more angular and aero dynamic they did the best they could and it shines through with then in my eye introducing new pieces/elements. It has far more functions than i would have thought at this price point and scale Would pick it up but need to get Dom's Charger ready for FX after which i'll have this set in my crosshairs LOL.

lol I'm glad you mentioned the Technic figs, I ALWAYS wonder if they'll fit whenever I see a new set like this. I only own one of those figs, it has a broken ankle.
As for this car, I feel like they should include transparent paper "pieces" to make the windshields.

I just finished up the set, as a huge Ford fan and collector I am happy with it. Lots of your visual nit picks are very valid. It doesn't 100% fit the source material but as a Ford fan moreso than a Lego fan it was an awesome build for price point.
My biggest complaint is the doors. The functionality of them is great I love how they mimic the source material... My problem with them is how loose they fell when closed. Some sort of better friction lock would have been nice. Putting the model on its side the door flies open. Still a minor complaint as the rest of the build was very satisfying and looks good displayed.

When I first saw the offical photos of this I thought it was going to be the original GT40 from the le-Mans erra. There wouldn't be too much modification from a design standpoint for it to be that race car.

I have just 'finished' mine, I say 'finished' because a part is missing from the engine cover assembly. I have requested a replacement part but they are currently out of stock, this is second time this has happened (the Batmobile had a missing part also). It is a decent model overall though.

I totally understand the criticism of how high the suspension rises the car. But personally I like how they are often a bit high because it makes it easier to put motors in because with the height the added weigh won’t make the car bottom out.

First time I’ve heard my truck engine is shoved into the back of that thing. My f150 is pretty zippy, so I can imagine how it is in something so light. Bought this a couple weeks ago and I’m looking forward to the build.

    • @natexthomass
      @natexthomass Рік тому +1

I’m not a Ford expert nor necessarily a fan of the brand as a whole but I do like the 3.5 Ecoboost, however the GT and F-150 engines only share about 50% of parts between them. Ford quotes as high as 70% but given the different generations between engine it’s likely less. Ford hasn’t released specifics but things like a dry sump oil system, larger turbos, different heads, and a different valvetrain are to be expected. The GT makes about 650 up whereas in the F150 it’s closer to 400 hp. That’s not to say your engine can’t reach 600 hp but it would take some heavy modification to do it. Still a fantastic engine in the F-150 though and I love that Ford leaned into turbos before anyone else.
Side note, your F150 has the same turbos used on a VW Golf GTI, the more you know!

The pictures of this set on the box really don't sell this model well. Cos it looks so much nicer in person than the box photos show; the dark blue in the pictures are nowhere near as nice. It's the same problem the Creator Expert 1967 Ford Mustang had.
As for the set itself, its going to be very much like the Bugatti Bolide set. In that the resemblance isn't quite fully realised and has quirks, but it definitely looks like I'll really love and enjoy going through the building process! There's a ton of recoloured pieces as well in dark blue for the time as Ford themselves requested the car to be dark blue with white stripes.
Not getting it yet, waiting for a discount as Technic sets always get slashed heavily here, but it's on my radar, which is a surprise when I originally dismissed it!

My issue is that the doors should open up way higher and not so much to the side. If you see pictures of the doors open on the real car, they are much higher.

I wished they made custom molded wheels based on the CF option for the actual car... that would have been a super touch! But I know it's probably reserved for the full sized "UCS" variants.

  • @WizardOfOss

The front reminds me of a Ford GT......though a classic GT40, not the modern one. And it's a shame that Lego still doesn't manage to match the color of the sticker and the plastic, these look so cheap. But apart from that, I very much like what I see, even when I agree with most of your criticisms. Maybe not a perfect Ford GT, but still a pretty darn good Technic sports car. And infinitely better than the horrible flex-Ferrari....

This thing feels messy. Really messy. From the clashing of functions. To the clashing of designs. To the clashing of scale. This set seems to just be out of place. One of the first sets I can say I dont like. I think it should have been a full scaled supercar. leave this scale to the models with simpler design structures. This model GT especially is incredibly complex in its lines and structure. They really did their best, but it should have just been a bigger set, with more room to actually get the details built out, and not have all that janky play function stuff built up inside the cockpit, as well as the glaring wheels and fender proportions.
In fact. From most angles. This looks closer to the '66 GT40 car, and by extention, also the '05 car. NOT the '17 car.

This is almost like a non-LEGO model set, all those curved thin pieces making up the exterior, this is very far from System LEGO, and as a Danish person, my thinking is that if it ain't System, it ain't real LEGO. It is a nice construction toy set, however. But LEGO? Not in my book.
