Definitely better than Frank Sinatra. The thing with Elvis is that, in my opinion he could take any song and do a better job than the original. I would choose Elvis' version of any song over the original. Hands down best performer, singer and talent that ever lived. Nobody, in my opinion, is better than Elvis....even to this day...MY OPINION. 😊

I can't take anything away from Frankie, Dad raised me on Frankie, and he had a total different kinda voice and delivery. Mom raised me on ELVIS and to me there's just no better voice out there before or since. You need to see Frank and Elvis together singing a duet, from "Welcome Home Elvis". 1960 Elvis was much younger than Frank. Frank had him on when Elvis got out of the Army. Elvis was drafted in the middle of his career and gladly served in the Army in Germany for two years on the German Russian Front slipping in the snow. Leave the little girl alone she is free to her opinion.

The version from him 1977 is even slightly better
I’m a huge fan of Frank Sinatra and his live versions are top class.
Elvis live version here though was supreme. His style of building up a song works so great in a live concert setting that to me he topped anything Sinatra ever did with his song live.
Now studio version vs studio version, I’ll call that a tie.

I had never believed it when my professor in college, both a musicologist and professional symphony musician, himself, told me that he viewed Elvis Presley to be the greatest overall singer of all time. "Why?," "What the hell?," so many of us said? With him first going on to ask what's Frank Sinatra's greatest and/or signature song? "My Way," someone eventually said and then the professor proceeded to show us various polls from over the years which listed Sinatra as the greatest singer ever. Ray Charles and Aretha Franklin were also on top of some, and Elvis, too, on a few. But the point of the exercise was to simply show us Sinatra was considered by many, though it's subjective, to be the greatest.
The class then listened to Sinatra's "My Way," and then Elvis' version, back to back. With the room being roughly split as to whose version was better, "which proved what I thought?" But then the professor showed us Elvis rocking out to 'Trying to Get to You' from the Elvis 1968 Comeback Special. With the point ultimately being that regardless of whose version of 'My Way" you preferred, Elvis was right there, totally at home playing in Sinatra's backyard for lack of better parlance.
But as to Sinatra playing in Elvis' backyard, he said, it couldn't be done, as he said "[i]magine Sinatra, (who he totally loved) trying to do that rock number?" Then going on to say that he had found no singer who had ever sang more genres, more majestically, than Elvis, & he challenged us to find out for ourselves by looking at his full catalogue of Rock, Pop, Soul, Country, Ballads, Gospel and more.
And, when done, I admit I became a convert who was so, so doubtful, at first, I can't even begin to tell you. But from rocking out to 'Trying to Get to You' from that Elvis 1968 Comeback Special, to singing about the dream of humanity coming together with "If I Can Dream," from the same show, I believe you will see what I mean. Elvis even had a voice that could be operatic if you go and listen to 'Hurt' and his version of "You'll Never Walk Alone" will tell you why he has also sold more gospel records than anyone, as well as just tons more, overall. But, with pop and 'Such A Night' to a ballad such as 'They Remind Me Too Much of You,' he did it all, and so, so damn well. While for soul, check out 'Long Black Limousine' or 'You're Wearin' That Loved on Look' which is a bit of another number. Because as Elvis' one album cover says, there's 'Something for Everybody.'

The original French song is "Comme d'habitude" composed by Jacques Revaux, Gilles Thibaut & Claude François. The English version (My Way) was written by Paul Anka who re-wrote the original version for Frank Sinatra. Anka changed the lyrics & subtly altered the melodic structure. The translation of "Comme d'habitude" means "as per usual" - the meaning of the song is about something that happens regularly or that isn't surprising. The original French song has nothing to do w-Paul Anka’s written version. There is a video of the original French version w-English subtitles on the internet
Sinatra’s daughter Nancy said Sinatra did not like the song to the point of hating it. Sinatra said it was "self-serving" but performed it many times anyway. It’s interesting that Sinatra thought it was self-serving since he was extremely spoiled from early childhood to the point of wanting everything his way throughout his life.

Why make it a competition between two of the greatest artists ever? Both versions are fantastic, but very different, with Frank's studio version being very melancholy and low key, while Elvis is the supreme live ruler (as usual).
My personal favorite is Elvis in 1977, when he sings it with about 6 weeks left to live. Really gives meaning to the title. Talk about doing it His Way.

I was with your sister on Just Pretend, but I am with you on this one. I love Sinatra's My Way, but Elvis blows it away. He is the one that touches your heart. Your sister is young and Frank's version is the 1st she heard so perhaps that is impacting her. Things like that used to impact my opinions when I was a kid 😉

In my opinion, Frank Sinatra's version of MY WAY is good, but Elvis Presley's version is so full of emotion. Sinatra pretty much talks the song and Elvis sings the song with huge an heavy emotions.
I'm a huge Elvis fan, but not everyone is. I just think it's great that you and your little sister are willing to explore different types of music.
Music (or the music that speaks to us) is subjective and very personal. I'm not mad that she prefers Sinatra's version of this song - I like that she has her own opinions and stands by them.

There are Elvis fans who prefer '50s Elvis, those who don't like his early stuff, but like '60s or '70s Elvis, and others who just love all stages of Elvis. (It's me - I'm "others". 🤣) And there are those who straight up don't like Elvis at all, of which she is not one.
Give her time - she's barely skimmed the surface of all things Elvis. At 12 yrs old (isn't she 12?) she's exploring music and learning what she likes. Kudos to her - I can't get my 18 yr old grandson to check out genres of music like that.
Whether she ends up being an Elvis fan, or (like my husband) not particularly, it's all good. I don't require her to love Elvis just because I do.

Frank Sinatra's version is also not the original. Originally it is a French song called Comme d'habitude written by Claude François and Jacques Revaus. It just sad because he died just six weeks later and it aired on TV after his passing.
After the concert his father Vernon thanked the fans from his office that was filled with fan mail. So, touching that they added it. His soul was broken after the death of his only son. RIP Elvis, Vernon, Ben and Lisa.

Sorry but both of you are wrong. The best version of this song is the 1977 version that Elvis sung in concert just 6 weeks before he passed away. That one is truly near the end of his life. I guarantee you will like it better than the version you just did and better than Frank Sinatra's version. You should really check it out. A word of caution. I'm agreeing with you both, but it's ok to go back in forth on the interpretation. Frank and Elvis both sing "My Way" perfectly. Two different styles, generation of singing. These two have GOD gifted vocals they were born with that can't be taught. Frank has a way of phrasing his words while he sings, and it comes out perfectly. Elvis just knew how to entertain, stage presence, in control of all the songs he sang. He made it his regardless if they were cover songs. Both are perfect singers in the likes we'll never see this again.

Is Elvis' version good? Yes. But to me it's because of Elvis' powerhouse voice, sorry. In the live performance you watched, Sinatra was almost 60 - more than 20 years older than Elvis. The song was written for Sinatra. He is the lion in winter looking back - weaker but still powerful - which is how Sinatra sings it. Your sister has good ears. No disrespect but, maybe when you are older, you will 'get' Sinatra's version.
