Another thing about skypea that I think is overlooked is that this is a very important arc for Robin. This is her first adventure with the strawhats, she had lost all will to live after the poneglyph in Alabasta didn't have the information she wanted. But in Skypea, thanks to Luffy, she not only finds people that care for her but also regains the dream of completing the history by finding the rare Skypea poneglyph. I think that is massive.
Something worth pointing out with Bellamy is that Luffy only lost interest in fighting him once he talked about how pointless dreams were. Luffy was absolutely ready to throw down with Blackbeard over pie, and even seemed ready to throw down with Bellamy, UNTIL that exact moment.
The two main reasons I think some people will say to skip Skypiea is that it doesn't appear to immediately bring anything to the larger plot (I said immediately, it sure as hell does when we look at it now) and the following arc is one that brings a lot to the larger plot in a very obvious way.
@@ManaMouseYT That is JUST why I like it: Sanji getting impersonated by Luffy. Zoro's "Aaahaaahaaah" scream. Usopp's "Aaahaaahaaah" device. The South Bird moments. The comedy is PEAK (funniest arc to me), the "Battle Royale" was interesting and it has the best flashback in the whole series too. Just rewatch it without rushing. Me talking about it made me want to rewatch the whole saga again from the very beginning.
Even before I started using One Pace, I never really thought Skypiea was "too long." It always felt just long enough. Also, I love Enel's meme face, it's so iconic. And Luffy saying "Gum Gum Fireworks" was one of my favorite moments in the dub.

I recall recently that Oda was talking about just how important dreams are in One Piece's world. He drew different versions of aged up Luffy, Zoro, and Nami based on whether they were chasing their dreams or not. Nami didn't even look like she aged at all, kind of like Shakky. However, she definitely looked worse for wear when she didn't. Edit: Water 7 and Ennies Lobby are going to be epic for you. The reason Skypeia has so many haters is because the next story arc is amazing.
The significance of SkyPiea does not reveal itself until, say, a thousand chapters in. That's why people thought it was a side quest. As someone who is caught up, I can't stress enough how important this arc is on the over all narrative.
Glad to hear that you liked Skypiea, especially given the unnecessary disdain people have for it (though the latest complete arc definitely helped make most change their minds upon reflection, due to spoliery reasons I won't give). Be ready though, the Long Ring Long Land mini arc drags in the anime due to filler. In the manga it was perfectly paced but they just dragged it out needlessly (as in, when it came out they had plenty of source material to adapt without filler). This drag normally turns people off of this mini arc, especially with the greatness that follows it in the main arc of Water 7 and Ennies Lobby (some consider it 1 arc, others make the difference between them, they're all the same main storyline either way).
I also hate that arc as it posits Luffy, the man who will drop anything for his friends' dreams and will ignore social norms he doesn't agree with, would willingly bet one of his nakama on a schoolyard dare. It just sucks so much even without the filler pacing of the anime. Literally the only reason I even begrudgingly accept the concept of the Davyback fight is on the off chance it allows for a "fight" between Luffy and Shanks that is more friendly competition than actual beef.

I'd already seen *THE FACE* before watching One Piece via memes, and still the entire scene itself got me nearly choking on my own breath, dear Not Enel it's just that good.
The way I see skypiea and the presentation of religion is that it’s saying that believe in a god is not evil it is the use of it to steal, harm, and control other is where the line is crossed
The Shadow Giant at the beginning is just people from the Sky Island above showing up as shadowy figures, similarly to how Luffy does at the end of the arc. Nothing states this afaik, you're just supposed to infer that on rereading/reflecting back.
The fact that this arc introduced Blackbeard, an influential and immensely powerful emperor of the seas, and foreshadowed THE form through a dickish guy in a bar and a dance pose is insane
being an only manga person, i cannot concieve how people say that LRLL and Skypiea are filler, Skypiea introduces us to the Sun God, The parallels with Noland and Usopp, the core themes of Freedom from opressive Gods, and the clues of where Poseidon is
Personally Skypiea is a much required step before diving into anything further The reestablishment of what dreams means, the liberation and so on Plus the crew's dynamics and character growth will pay off and i'm telling you, you won't be disappointed it happened And yh ppl calling it filler clearly miss that I mean bounty increase or drastic change aren't the only proof something was gained and now we wait
I don’t think there was any way better to illustrate Luffy and Blackbeard being two sides of the same coin than the classic Amphibia or Owl House debate.
I've just finished the Skypiea arc myself and those big giant shadows are explained near the end of the Arc btw. (unless it was a red herring i'll find the truth about in another 800 episodes or something lmao)
I think people who hate sypeia are either those who jjust want everything to be super connected to the plot (despite past arcs not being like that much at all) or were jsut bored by the random pirests serving eneru (which i can udnerstand maybe) this arc is jsut peak one peice. A random treasure hunt on an island in the sky where luffy must punch 'god' in the face. This is just what one peice is all about, a wile fantasy adventure. also Eneru is like one of the top tier one peice villains. a great followup to crocodile.
The fun thing about Enell is that he's not a manchild believing in myths. The manga has little mini comics showing what happens to people after Luffy departs. And it shows Enel actually getting to the moon, fighting off aliens and obtaining an army of robots. :) He also found some wall paintings that show that the Skypeans were originally from the moon and migrated to Earth for reasons. So you could say that he just went to his ancestral home Its pretty nice to follow along so if characters appear later, like Wapol, you know what they've been up to and how they got to where they are. (It also shows what characters looked like after the time skip so thats fun, 2 years older Nojiko is nice)
Skypeia is, to this day, one of my favourite arcs. It has some slow points but I just really enjoyed the story around it and the depth it gave to the history of the world. I'm _so_ glad it was integral to certain parts of the story later on and am living on the justice for skypeia juice that I've managed to wring from the corpses of the haters. :D
Its hard to say that the theme of Skypiea was just "dreams" because a big part of its narrative was heavily focused on settlers taking land from indigenous people and the civil unrest that follows.
I cant wait for you to watch Water7 I don’t usually cry in movies or shows and I don’t think ever in an animated but one scene in it made me cry and I was very close in many others. Also it’s just so good in general and I don’t think anyone would disagree.
I am shocked you didn’t spend more time on “I gotta ask, do you know how to throw a punch?” Jaya is the part of this arc that ages like fine wine for me.
if Sypeia is about dreams 1) it explains why sypeia is so fantastical and dreamlike and 2) it makes it hilarious how its the one arc where the villain achieves his main dream (destroying skypeia was just a side hting he was doing as a favour :3)
I’m glad you’re enjoying this series. While I get that making these videos longer can be a challenge and I’m no UA-camr. 7:07 this is something I Would’ve recommended bringing a BIG example into for such a topic. Noland and his crew chopped away these special trees because they have been infected. Every Shandian including Kalgara felt betrayed to their core because those same trees were sacred and believed to hold the spirits of their ancestors. (I think, it’s been a while for me) Noland wasn’t seeking to prove himself a savior protecting them from a disease, even if he did. His idea was pretty much: Those trees meant their lives to them, let’s walk away because we at least prevented any further deaths. There is no apology that will undo what we took away. So when Kalgara was informed of this (by his daughter if I remember correctly) and found the heart to forgive this sacrilege… it made them finally ringing that golden bell again feel so beautiful to hear after they held out on it because of their grief. It wasn’t as simple as Noland saving them, it’s about him caring for their lives and feelings. And how he didn’t just almost lose a connection to the island and natives, but his best friend.
I love how they ran away like criminals with gold they took from INSIDE the snake lmao. Like no one even knew that was in there, no one was going to get it either. Only a psychopath would venture into the mouth of a sleeping snake to rob it. But they saved those people, ended their centuries long war against each other and gave them a sense of freedom they probably didn't even have before the vearth made its way into the sky. WHY wouldn't the people just let them have it after all that lol. Their all so childish, and the fact that Robin knew the people were trying to give them gold and said nothing to stop the crew makes it even better. Their all just chaotic goblins.
I see your rebranding your channel and gonna focus on your "bad doodle" series a lot more. Neat! As I really love that series of yours. Hope you still do videos tackling other topics from time to time though, as we all need variety on occasion. Keep doing what you love EWBD!
Actually skypia it's a pretty important arc in one piece because all the arc it's like a micro cosmos of all one piece story. And yes... He can stretch all it's body and I keen all... Oda confirmed that in a SBS
Hey man, great series so far, love your doodles of everything, it is a nice unique style. Now I won't tell you how to read/watch the series as you made that clear, but something you should know about are the cover stories. You see, every chapter of One Piece has an awesome cover page, but a lot of them tell a story themselves in several parts, you might remember the anime episodes that detailed Buggy's journey by himself and Koby and Helmeppo's training, well those started off as cover stories that were adapted, but not many of the stories were. So I would suggest you go online and check the cover stories whenever you finish an arc or saga. The stories are all canon and are very interesting as a snapshot of characters, and it lets you know how they got there and where they're going.
I didn’t even know that skipping Skypiea was such a thing. I can’t imagine wanting to skip such a fun adventurous arc filled with lore and so much foreshadowing. Why do people feel the need to rush through the series? Just enjoy the straw hats and enjoy the story Oda is trying to create. He’s obviously showing these things for a reason.
Well, Imo, the Skypea arch introduces the dials in the story and those improve Nami's and Ussop's weapons and fighting styles, so it does affect the crew in a certain way. 2:32 I'm with Luffy in this one.

4:35 btw yes...yes he can (boogy too) oda said that in an sbs (fanpost in the physical volumes)
As one genius described Luffy, "Why brought that crackhead to me?"
Skypiea shows all the themes and contains important lore that is valuable for the future
The fact that this arc introduced Blackbeard, an influential and immensely powerful emperor of the seas, and foreshadowed THE form through a dickish guy in a bar and a dance pose is insane
being an only manga person, i cannot concieve how people say that LRLL and Skypiea are filler, Skypiea introduces us to the Sun God, The parallels with Noland and Usopp, the core themes of Freedom from opressive Gods, and the clues of where Poseidon is
Personally Skypiea is a much required step before diving into anything further
The reestablishment of what dreams means, the liberation and so on
Plus the crew's dynamics and character growth will pay off and i'm telling you, you won't be disappointed it happened
And yh ppl calling it filler clearly miss that
I mean bounty increase or drastic change aren't the only proof something was gained and now we wait
The shadows were just Skypians. The same way you see Luffy's shadow in the clouds when he beat Enel
The shadow is a projection of one of the skypieans in the clouds
I don’t think there was any way better to illustrate Luffy and Blackbeard being two sides of the same coin than the classic Amphibia or Owl House debate.
Honestly, i never even watched One Piece. I just find these Bad Doodle Explanations genuinely entertaining. Keep up the great work!
lmaoo well ig this is one way to watch op 😹
10:34 "A lot of the payoffs here probably won't be important for a while."
_played over the one that's INCREDIBLY relevant in the next arc_
love ur videos keep it up❤❤❤
I've just finished the Skypiea arc myself and those big giant shadows are explained near the end of the Arc btw. (unless it was a red herring i'll find the truth about in another 800 episodes or something lmao)
"The way its meant to be consumed"
Oh, you're reading the manga!
I think people who hate sypeia are either those who jjust want everything to be super connected to the plot (despite past arcs not being like that much at all) or were jsut bored by the random pirests serving eneru (which i can udnerstand maybe)
this arc is jsut peak one peice. A random treasure hunt on an island in the sky where luffy must punch 'god' in the face. This is just what one peice is all about, a wile fantasy adventure.
also Eneru is like one of the top tier one peice villains. a great followup to crocodile.
Found your channel and I am loving your content!!
"Most scenes wont be relevant for a while"
Water 7 & Enies Lobby:
God I hope Foxy doesn't turn him off the series... Water 7 / Enies Lobby is SO DAMN GOOD!
I need to see what he things of Spandex and Gucci!
Filler is a word that deserves a Thanos snap out of the lexicon.
So you could say that he just went to his ancestral home
Its pretty nice to follow along so if characters appear later, like Wapol, you know what they've been up to and how they got to where they are.
I stopped watching the show. Why was it integral to certain parts of it?
@@somerandomguy9891 It foreshadows a lot of stuff that is currently happening where the anime is at.
0:53 this guy knows things
Its hard to say that the theme of Skypiea was just "dreams" because a big part of its narrative was heavily focused on settlers taking land from indigenous people and the civil unrest that follows.
when we first saw blackbeard i kinda liked him with the whole pirates dreams speech
Love the new logo and your explanations are the best man!❤❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Can He? He Can. Oda Confirmed in an SBS. Also I would definitely split the Water 7 arc into multiple videos, since it's effectively 3 mini-arcs.
You do the GOAT Manga/Anime proper justice. Keep it up. RESPECT.
I cant wait for you to watch Water7 I don’t usually cry in movies or shows and I don’t think ever in an animated but one scene in it made me cry and I was very close in many others. Also it’s just so good in general and I don’t think anyone would disagree.
Water 7 should be pretty easy to split into parts.
To answer the “Wait..can you?”…yes…yes he can Oda has confirmed
Love your doodles and your humor!!!
The cock and ball guillotine got me lmao
Skypeia still an absolutely beautiful and thematically dense arc.
Dude how did you only laugh out loud twice Skypiea is SO freaking funny
(I think, it’s been a while for me)
Noland wasn’t seeking to prove himself a savior protecting them from a disease, even if he did.
3:08 3 arms man
I just saw your subscriber count and I'm surprised it's so low keep it up and good luck man!
I see your rebranding your channel and gonna focus on your "bad doodle" series a lot more. Neat! As I really love that series of yours. Hope you still do videos tackling other topics from time to time though, as we all need variety on occasion. Keep doing what you love EWBD!
When I watched your last One Piece video I was on the same arc. Now I'm caught up.
Actually skypia it's a pretty important arc in one piece because all the arc it's like a micro cosmos of all one piece story. And yes... He can stretch all it's body and I keen all... Oda confirmed that in a SBS
You could argue that without skypiea, gear 5 falls flat on its face, or just an ass pull
'in the Grand Line of things...' underrated line haha
Giant shadows is just shadows of the people on Sky Island, just like Luffy's shadow was in the sky in the end of the arc
I liked how they gave blackbeard a vs to Luffy at the tavern. I can't wait to see mroe of him.
The best part of the arc was Luffy discovering his immunity to electricity. Both he and Enel learning at the same time.
'gomu gomu no braindead' is luffy's best attack
I didn’t even know that skipping Skypiea was such a thing. I can’t imagine wanting to skip such a fun adventurous arc filled with lore and so much foreshadowing. Why do people feel the need to rush through the series? Just enjoy the straw hats and enjoy the story Oda is trying to create. He’s obviously showing these things for a reason.
Well, Imo, the Skypea arch introduces the dials in the story and those improve Nami's and Ussop's weapons and fighting styles, so it does affect the crew in a certain way.
2:32
I'm with Luffy in this one.
what was bro doing at 0:39 💀💀💀
ngl you deserve alot more subs
