Genuinely surprised that you didn't touch on how Skypeia also hammers home Usop's love for the Going Merry which later becomes a major plot point in Water Seven, leading to perhaps the most heartbreaking moment in the entire series.

Skypiea is the reason why they need to go to Water 7 in the first place - no normal ships can withstand the stress of going up and down a Sky Island and Going Merry is a very normal ship. We know for a fact that Going Merry won't last long in Grand Line, and the Skypiea adventure is the final nail in her coffin.
Enel and the characters of Skypiea might have not show up anymore, but everything else about Skypiea is crucial for the overarching plot of One Piece. To skip it is just wrong imho.

If you skipped Skypiea, but like sing the praises of Water 7 and Enies Lobby all I can say is: WHAT???
I love this arc but even if you don't there is one major factor. Like if Skypiea does one thing good it is showing that Robin is a member of the crew now.
Robin is the one an archeologist and this arc is perfect for her first adventure, she is thrown right in the middle of a forgotten kingdom.
The whole reason why you're invested in Water 7 in the first place is the interaction she has with the crew in this arc and Long Ring Long Land to a lesser extent.
This is like reading Romance Dawn and Orange Town and then skipping Syrup village and Baratie because you heard that Arlong Park is great and Namis character moment is emotional.
The only reason moments like these are emotional is because if what came before.
Like look, why would you care about Luffy fighting Ussop about getting a new ship if you didn't see Bellamy wreck the Merry more than any time before just to than get wrecked even more and mysteriously repaired.
Why would care about Merry's funeral or that the Klabautermann spoke to them without having context?
Why would you even care Franky stealing the money to repair Merry WHEN YOU DON'T KNOW WHERE THEY EVEN GOT IT FROM???
    Like huh?
These aren't moments good because of isolated storytelling, but because a seed was planted long before....
    WTF y'all

The arc was longer than it needed to be, the side characters were completely forgettable, Enel (overrated) is a character the One Piece fanbase seems to hype up even though he couldn't even kill off fodder characters, I completely forgot his minions names, Luffy being trapped in a snake TWICE was annoying, after a while you forget that you're on the grandline because they've been in the sky forever. Sure it was important for plot purposes which I won't dispute but that still doesn't make it a good arc. The arc being important to the story still doesn't make it a good arc. As a reader or viewer you still wanna keep us I vested and I just lost interest as I watched each episode. Same thing with Long Long Island. It was important as well but it doesn't mean it was good. Now one thing I will agree is people should never by any means skip an arc. That's bad juju but I won't pretend to say that I enjoyed Skypiea. It had moments for sure but overall I didn't care for the arc.

@@Acetag31 That’s pretty fair, just as it is fair for some people to say they don’t like One Piece. The things you didn’t like about the arc are pretty subjective since it’s stuff other people loved. One Piece is my fav peace of fiction ever but I still know there are a handful of better written and better paced shows out there. What I love about it sm that it makes me forget pacing and writing details (which are present at every arc) is how amazing the characters are each single damn time and how legendary and huge the world seems. Eneru might be overrated power wise but he is not by any means a bad villain, he is holding the people way harder than Crocodile and makes sure to increase the stakes every time he shows up. Forgetting his priests names is pretty fair, I just could never forget Gan Fall fighting one of them after one of the best monologues in the whole show explaining how some criminals are good or bad depending on the times they live in (Luffy’s crew) or Chopper finally having 1 v 1s and risking his life against two of them. Or Zoro and Wyper trying to kill each other with a crazy priest in the middle. I think we’re supposed to forget for a while that we’re on the Grand Line, Oda wants us to feel like the Straw Hats and Luffy doesn’t care waiting longer to achieve his dream as long as he can enjoy the hell out of a crazy adventure. I’m sorry I just did the same thing you did giving examples of what I loved about it which is also pretty subjective. It’s just that I used to not like it but reading the manga and rewatching it made my eyes glow because of how amazing I think it actually really is.

Luffy and the crew… They never even hesitated, no fear, willing to be beaten and laughed at. They were willing to literally die for it, by placing their belief in the sky and they were rewarded in the end. Thinking about sending your ship to the skies just on the hope and dream of adventure…

Enel was a terrifying and powerful antagonist, regardless we see how self sacrificing Sanji and Zoro are for taking lightning bolts for their friends. As well as Wyver for how willing he was to sacrifice himself in order to fulfill the promise that was made 400 years ago and help send the message to Noland’s descendant that the city of gold was in the sky. The ringing of the bell will always be one of my favorite scenes in one piece because of how much it meant for the Shandians and Noland. It truly is a wonderful Arc and it breaks my heart to know that some people didn’t like Skypeia and told others to skip it despite Skypeia being a very important Arc in my opinion.

I also really like Enel's overall chill VS his _complete lack of chill._ Like the man heads out to see Robin, realizes that she's super interested in history and has a super chill chat with her about it for like five minutes; then he peaces out. Next to that, every attack name he has is just the name of an electric deity + the amount of millions of volts he discharges on people to one-shot them.
Then there's the horrifying implication of how little he cares about life. This Shandia girl (forgot her name, unfortunately) has the same Haki he does and she loses her mind like Coby every time people die because she "hears it" inn her head, whereas Enel just doesn't bat an eye and quietly counts them instead.
As a child, that got me to realize that he's a sociopath on a completely different level. Like, there's Crocodile's "I'll cause everyone to go to war and then try to bomb 'em all" to Enel's "I can actually hear the dying screams of all the people I force to die in my head and it doesn't bother me."
Yet next to that, he gave Nami _multiple_ chances to join him and would've been fine with it even though he knew she was shady. He's so... consistently inconsistent, it's great. XD

the introduction to the sky folk and the second contact to a milestone from Roger's life (the first being the Loguetown pub Roger once frequented) were the biggest takeaways. with the end of the Wano arc, there is still so much more to the skyfolk that is having impacts on the story now it's just so interesting.

It just occurred to me that if you skip skypiea, you also skip the part where the Merry literally REPIARS ITSELF for the crew, which really makes the whole Water 7 saga even more impactful. People who skip skypiea just miss out, the writing was masterful.

It’s actually insane how much forshadowing is in Skypiea. Its like a microcosm of the One Piece world. There is so much symbolism in this arc I loved it so much more on rewatch
    Post Wano manga Spoilers:
Skypiea is more important than ever with the current arc Egghead island. It was directly compared to Skypiea and it’s another fantasy island that’s said to be hundreds years into the future because of how advanced it is. especially with the explanation about devil fruits being dreams. In Wano, Kaido introduced the idea that dreams (devil fruits) aren’t enough to conquer the sea, it also takes great willpower (haki). And with the Vegapunks it seems as if Oda is going to take a look into the dark side of desires, which correlates with dreams.

@@marqusmedina5983 as someone who has read the whole one piece manga and watched almost all of the one piece anime, dont mind if i do:
From the start all the way to alabasta, the anime adapts everything from the manga perfectly.
Jaya is when the anime adaptation starts to fuck up a bit. So jaya and skypiea are better in the manga imo.
Long ring long land is very subjective, if you want the arc to be longer and be more of a casual experience then watch the anime. If you want to just get going with the story itself then read the manga.
Water seven is adapted quite well, so you could go with either. I prefer the anime for water seven because of the soundtrack and the lighting.
You could watch the anime in enies lobby, but the manga is way better in that arc imo.
Thriller bark is better in the manga.
Past the pacing, sabaody is adapted beautifully in the anime. The whole sequence with the introduction of the supernovas was done very well. You could go with either.
Imo amazon lily is better in the manga, because oda draws boa hancock a lot better than toei.
Impel down is better in the manga in every aspect. Same for marineford, and fishman island. Imo fishman island is the peak of oda's art too, imo.
Punk hazard is better in the manga.
Dressrossa is better in the manga. Dressrossa is the worst adapted arc in anime history.
Zou is better in the manga.
Im not sure about whole cake island, but odds are the manga is better.
Wano is better in the manga. While the animation change is very satisfying, the pacing is shittier than ever, and they keep blasting weird aura effects that make it impossible to know wtf is going on, it also looks silly and inconsistant. It was good at the start of wano when it was mild but the raid on onigashima is just a blinding light at this point.

I really really enjoyed Skypiea soo much. One of the funniest arcs. And thr back story of Noland and Calgara was heart breaking, yet beautiful.

I've encountered similar sentiment to my personal favorite Thriller Bark... It sets up so much stuff I don't know why it and Gecko Moria get shit on.

I love Thriller Bark too. I generally don't get actual fans hating any of the OnePiece arcs. Each and every one is unique and has many things to offer to the world, and to us readers/watchers too.

I’m currently on the Skypiea when I originally watched it on toonami one piece I dropped it when they got to skypiea and the last thing I remember is Usop divining into the shallow cloud water but I’m glad I started watching again after 10yrs of ignoring how great it truly is I wish I didn’t dropped the series

when I saw the scene of luffy using golden rifle, putting an end to enel's reign over skypiea, as well as ringing the bell, then cutting to the people down on jaya hearing the bell, and a silhouette of luffy in the clouds, it was instantly one of my absolute favorite scenes pre timeskip

The Kalgara/Noland flashback was the moment that really hooked me into finishing this. Like I was enjoying previous major arcs, but having heard that it doesn’t start getting good until episode 300 had me feeling like it was a trudge. From that point on I was hyped to finish it. I went from taking roughly 6 months to get to Skypiea to getting caught up on the anime 3 months later. Like it was never not on from there.

Skypiea was the arch I quit one piece in my youth. I should of stuck with it because now it grew on me and became my favorite arch. Noland is one of the best historical figures that I look up too. He was just a goof ball but so lovable.

I always liked the idea Skypiea is a microcosm of all the themes and events in the series. Like Luffy being the natural enemy of Enel, same as the will of D (Luffy) being enemy of Im (World Gov.) Or how the ultimate ending is the liberation of all the people from false gods and finding out the true history of this place. It’s way more interesting if you look at the parallels of this arc to the series as a whole

the skypiea arc was the only arc which the *manga* managed to make me cry during. im sure the anime also has their tearjerkers but jeez the story of jaya being lifted and the relationship of kalgara and noland made me cry, along with the lines dropped during the climax

Skypiea almost made me drop the whole series. The first time I watched the anime it just felt too disconnected from overall story. I thought Eneru was a terrible villain, as in the worst written villain in One Piece. and I felt like the flashback in the middle of the arc was too long and boring. The Jaya arc that preceded Skypiea was so much better

My favourite part of Skypiea is that it encompases the core idea of One Piece like no other arc: Pirate adventure. It's exploring an unknown land, uncovering its people's history and fighting for what's right in its purest form. It's full of awe and wonder for that fantastic world we've all grown to love. And it's the first time One Piece made me genuinly cry.

People telling other people to skip Skypea will always be bonkers to me. You literally miss the best parts of the show, ie crew interactions and the grand adventure. Even ignoring the underlying foreshadowing, there are a lot of reasons to watch the arc. Personally, I thought it was peak comedy from Oda. You can’t tell me Zoro getting lost despite having a bird that only points North isn’t hilarious😂.
There’s also a ton of set up for Water 7 and Enies Lobby. You’re not gonna understand Usopp’s connection to the Merry all that well. Overall, I just think skipping Skypea is…egregious for an adventure comedy series.
I can understand not liking Skypea, but don’t tell others to skip it. Let them decide for themselves. If they drop the series, let them, they’re missing out. And that’s fine. If they can’t appreciate the journey, I just don’t think it’s worth making them skip to the climax bc they won’t get the full…emotions.

great video, but to be fair, a some of the stuff earlier in the video that you mentioned as being important to skypiea (sanji being from the north blue, blackbeards introduction, bellamy, doflamingos introduction and his jolly roger) are actually from the jaya arc, otherwise, good video, skypiea is underrated

Great video I've always loved skypiea just cause of the sheer adventure vibes you get, but theirs so much character insight here especially with Robin and it all comes to a head in water 7 but if you don't have skypiea their is no reason for Robin to want to live. She gave up on life in Alabasta but here she found a hint to her dream again along with a family.
