Actually rats have empathy it’s been studied they are actually quite emotionally intelligent, just with other rats. I can’t say the same for New Yorkers.
Saw an experiment in a documentary where a rat was presented with available food and a fellow trapped rat. The free rat freed the other rat and then they shared the food
Also I think people outside of New York city are alot more pleasant. I really enjoy interacting with people North of New York city and alot of them view NYC-ers as a abrasive. Although alot share that pessimistic mindset but I chalk it up to the weather.

I actually get the comment of "being too hospitalable/nice" like that is inherently a bad thing. Other then New Yorker city being a place of business (for now) and lots of entertainment. I really don't get the appeal of living there with their crappy standard of living, high taxes, and rude and aggressive people and rats. All take pride in paying to live in that. At least people in the less liberal cities and states can have a 3 bed room and pay half of what they pay to live in a filth covered closet.
