I had difficulties understanding MSE ,but with these great videos and explanation,I learnt a lot and I really liked the examples. It was really helpful.Thank you.
Hi Ty! Yes, depressed mood can be related to a full/broad affect. Be aware. though, that often depressed mood is associated with a blunted/flat affect. Hope that helps, Thom
Just here to gather information on how to understand what my teenage son, who quite clearly has flat affect, is experiencing. The monotone voice, lack of emotional expression, and the inability to fully understand the emotional state of others. I’ve personally been diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder myself and both my mother and grandmother had schizophrenia as well, so I am particularly concerned about trying to get him the help he needs now but so far he’s been resistant. Thank you for the helpful information.
Thank you for this video. I was recently accessed and diagnosed with depression, anxiety and ASD. The report mentioned my affect as "somewhat flat or generally restricted". I had no idea what that meant or that I was like that.
About 24:56, She is showing facial expression (frowning, mouth corner drooping) pretty clearly too, so I don't understand how she could be classified as blunted/flat? I thought only the absence or near absence of expression could be cited as blunted/flat under affect coding?
I feel I've become so "lazy" with my descriptions during my social work assessments being so incredibly busy with crisis stabilization inpatient level of care. I want to improve. This helps so very much. Thank you!
Woow A lot of help for my practical psychiatry exam! Great video recommend for all who prepare for exams in practical psychiatry assessment! Thanks a lot!🤩
Thank you for posting these great videos I’ve learnt so much from them. I was wondering when you report mood and affect can you say ‘Mood was reported as euthymic. Affect was expression of sadness in full range incongruent’?
can depression have full broad affect in congruence ? i felt at 24:27 is ample enough to be said full / broad and it seems to be congruent with depressed mood .. but sir u said otherwise .. will u please explain.. ty
I am here, because once they told me at the hospital I had an incongruent affect, and I want to become an actress. And it makes me so sad and scared and angry.
@@user-ug2oz8fj1q i still have resting B face when talking to new ppl but I tend to act happy on purpose because I know that's what makes other happy as well
This is complete rubbish. How dare you people judge what others are supposed to feel about such things as losing their job or experiencing pressure at work? How dare you decide how they have to express their supposed emotions during conversation? Maybe I am quite cool about losing my job because I didn't like it in the first place. Maybe I am cool, because I don't want a bloody psychiatrist to prey on my emotions. Or maybe I am actually consumed by a towering rage, but I am also a very skilled diplomat and know how to hide my feelings. But people like you would lock me up as a psychopath. Or maybe I do feel the pressure at work, but I am also blessed with a good sense of humour and warm self-irony that help me distance myself from what's happening and give me a certain degree of inner freedom. But people like you wouldn't be able to recognize it, let alone comprehend it, and would put me on suicide-watch.

Thought of punching boss you dislike + smile = congruent affect.

I agree!!! can we get some feedback why it would be coded as flat/blunted and depressed, i would have also said full/broad, congruent and depressed

The Incongruent Affect at 7:40 almost felt like an extreme sarcasm and contempt for the horrors of reality. Kind of unsettling.

May I download your MSE videos and use freely?
