cool beans Jason.....pretty rich vein material ....now the fun part of extraction..... get that Jackleg in there and load a round sonny Jim....keep us posted and hope to see ya soon
Hi Jason, The oxygen meter is a must when exploring caves of any sort due to bad air. To be safe we always had at least one or two peeps stay outside in case we didn't come out at the time we were suppose too. This saved our lives once, otherwise we would have still been down there. Great to listen to someone who knows their stuff so I can learn too.
Come to the north valley here in California!! There are Many old ore dumps or spill sites all around Chico area here, plus the rivers, creeks etc.... Many spots just waiting to be planned or collected. And Oroville is just down the road. Heart of Gold Country. 👍🏻😅
When I went to college in 1979, I majored in geology. The dean of the department asked me what I wanted to do with my education. I told him I wanted to prospect for gold. He laughed and said "there's no money in it, get into petrology instead, I have connections, I can get you hooked up" I quit school after one semester but always wanted to be a prospector. Now being old I am able to enjoy the life I missed with youtube videos. Especially people like you and Jeff Williams. Thank You for sharing your adventures.
I'm super impressed that you managed to capture the owners voice so clearly and loudly. My old man ears appreciate it. As a side note - your series on Cerro Gordo is really, really good stuff.
You helped connect me to my Grand and Great Grandparents way of life, they were miners and my Dad told me so many stories of being the only one that knew how to handle different things that miners were used to back then while he was young in the late 40's and early 50's. Batteries didn't exist or were too expensive to buy during his day, Carbide was what was used to light a lamp on your forehead and if it got too hot it would explode, you had to know when to throw it away from you! I can barely imagine what it took to do things back then.
that was awesome to see all that Jason . can't wait to see when you go back for more larger samples . The assay's are outstanding for the size of samples you took . Great content Jason . Cheers my friend
@@DonnyHooterHoot not Ghost Town Living. It drives me crazy. He goes into some sketchy tunnels, very deep, and doesn't look after his ropes very well. One day, his videos are just going to stop and we'll probably hear that he died in a collapse or something.
@@VisionaryGardener I know that Johnny does whenever he goes in the mine. Are you certain that the other guy doesn't or is it just not mentioned on camera? I just recently started watching his content, so it's a legitimate question.
Nice informative video Jason. I am so glad that you recorded the 'air alarm'. So many of the adventurist mine-exploring folks rarely take in effect all the dangers that lie below ground. Good job... and how about those assay numbers? Nice to know the ol' Timers left us some to work.
Yeah, co2 is heavier than o2 so in an area with little to no circulation it can accumulate. Same for methane that may escape from fissures in the walls or hydrogen sulphide than can produced by anaerobic bacteria.
Just found your channel through Dan Hurds channel. My mom was raised in Baker City and I remember going into the hills and finding all of the old gold mines and taking home bags of rocks. We thought we were going to get rich. My grandparents passed away a few years ago so I haven’t been there in forever, my kids have never been to Oregon to see where we would spend summers and stuff.
Really appreciate the warning about the air alarm being about to go off, my neighbors enjoyed their continued sleep while I'm watching this late at night.
With a bit of lumber, sheetrock, and paint you'd have a cozy little bolt hole to call home; warm in the winter, cool in the summer, and nice and quiet all year 'round.
FANTASTIC VIDEO!!!! Thank you for sharing. What about the leaching water coming down the sides of the mine walls? You got all that color on the floor with all the scrap quartz. Is it silly to think that some or from the walls is leaching onto the ground to include gold?
@15:36 - The owner offers to hold the camera and graces the audience with knowledgeable, skilled commentary right off the cuff. The man is a natural. How many subscribers does HE have? :D
Thanks Jason, you got a old man thinking. That would be a mine for me to dig. I don't do ropes anymore, I'm disable. But at the ore bin site I bring a gen and a rock crusher and load up a pickup.
Wow impressive assay results. Awesome looking mine. I also like how you talk about the gas meter. Some mine exploring people don't explain about dangerous air. Nice work Bud.
I'm heading down to the Virtue Mine in eastern Oregon next week. Gonna do some high banking, metal detecting and maybe get into the old hard rock workings and get some samples.
Love your videos Jason! Maybe sometime you should make it over to Montana and I’ll take you to some of my prospects⛏🏔 Stay safe and happy trails, Montana Josh signing out
This is an awesome video Jason! Thanks for giving a complete and detailed adventure! The owner sounds like a fascinating character with some knowledge of mining, and a general great guy and a sense of humor - sorta reminds me of John Schnabel a lil' lol. Those are some great assays! Hope to see more of this mine in the future! excited to see you process the ore bill material :)
You should screen classify some dirt where the quartz fines are. Plus 6000 feet is 1.1 miles I really thought you were going to crush the quartz up in this video... and now we have to wait lol
Just found your channel hello from Australia new sub here ....Love the history you have over there am an opal miner here and love abandoned mines to explore but we dont have the history going back as far .
Jason, there are alot better mines over in that area. I would suggest a book called Oregon's golden years by Miles F. Potter, the last mayor of the town of Greenhorn.
Awesome results! There should be some pretty good pickings in that dump. Get enough from that and the ore bin to get a real op going,.......but I'm sure everybody's already thinking of that. Frankly I'd be surprised if a guy couldn't make a go with some small piece of digging equipment and spend a lifetime taking that pile apart. Like you say,....all the work's already been done for you.
Great Video Jason, I love watching this sort of thing. When I was in my 30's I thought if I was only younger I would love to explore old mines and caverns now in my mid 60's well not going to happen. All Rail has a date when it was made on the side, If you go back in I would love to know the dates. I have rail in the rail yard I work at in Los Angeles dating back to early 1900.
That was like WOW!! old mines no one has seen for a hundred odd years with a little gold left behind. Can't wait for the rock crush on those samples =)
Fun fact: The Eiffel Tower was influenced by mining framework developed for the Comstock load and others. The board feet of lumber underground in Nevada is insane. All old growth conifers including sequoia.
Jason, You are all over the place.Cerro Gordo. Different workings in Oregon. Do you have a big crew to help you extract the gold? Also why would they leave such a good mine? WW2 ? Ran outta money?
The reason the vein swells and pinches is because the fault surfaces are not flat but weave. When these surfaces slide horizontally, it causes voids to open up to allow hot fluids to rise, to inundate. Sometimes you can see multiple veins within the whole width, would be prudent to sample each separately, signifies multiple fluid injections.
How many ounces a ton would be necessary for you to have interest in starting a mining operation there Jason? Awesome video! Those bad air alarm devices sure are loud and a blessing to have! Glad to see you taking proper safety precautions while giving us armchair youtubers wonderful content such as this!
Hey Jason my name is Chris I watch you all the time I'm I'm interested in smelting and stuff and precious metals and I've learned some stuff from you about smelting it all and have some of the stuff already to start my own little kind of operation but this video here in this mine is chock full of gold when can I come and help you man that's amazing

so cool to look around the abandoned mine with you Jason :) nice assay totals too :)
Glad you made it out! I have a big chunk of quartz that I brought back from NC and I have no idea what to do with it. There is visible gold on 1 spot

Can't wait to watch you run this ore! Thanks for sharing brother much love and respect from Colorado!!
Now that is some good results! Great video. Really enjoyed
Nice results from those samples Jason! Looking foreword to see what the Ore bin samples look like
Love the adventure. 🍻👍
"Now I gotta get these bags up this hill to the truck" definitely rhymes with "this is gonna suck" 🤣
Ore bins leak and overflow. It's good pickings under them.
thanks for the o'2 warning had my earphones on, love how you explain the rock formation as you go , great job,

I grew up in that area! Need to head back up there before the snow and get up to the claim by granite! You should come dredge with us this summer!

Good job with the loop shot. The owner ought to be happy with the assays.
mucho enjoymento Jason. Seeing the actual minerals in the vein a highlight. You're doing what Hans said, too old for us but great to see you doing it!

Jason, I like your videos. Your video with Dan Hurd was very interesting waiting for continuing film.
The spot price when I checked for pure was 1,742.35/oz, so 10,000 oz would be $17,423,500 for pure gold, less for the raw depending on purity
My math due to British gold price is slightly less but this might be due to currency convention
@@shanefowkes7451 Ya sorry it's USD
Currently $2,550 per Oz here in Australia. 👍 That is a pretty rich vein Jason. Now we have to wait until you process some of it to see the result.

Around 25:10 I thought that was just straight up gold 😂 I would be a terrible prospector
By the way, this looks like the perfect spot for your portable processing plant with the crusher and sluice.
You should just bring a full set-up so you can run a huge sample right there at the mine.
Cool video. Gee those assays are absolutely screaming. What kind or vein is style is it? Orogenic?
Nothing more exciting than finding gold ✨️

looking forward to ore big results
How Much does it cost to have that stuff tested and where do you have it done

With ALL that GOLD, the owner should be putting in a First Rate ventilation system and pump out that mine so it's DRY!
Awesome Jason love it🇺🇸
That’s cool seeing some prospecting in eastern Oregon I live just south of Mormon basin we’re a lot gold has been taken out thanks for the great video
