I am liking their interiors & exteriors more now, they seem to be listening to their audience with including the full sized spare wheel etc. The colour is great also.
Someone has the smarts @ Chery, a spare wheel and full size at that! I can’t think of another EV with any sort of spare. Well done. Can almost walk to a Chery dealer who also sells Kia. A spare wheel and a proper dealership footprint!!
The Ora is set up for country driving with long wheelbase and indirect steering. The long range version is cheap and would make a good country car except for the small boot. The Ora is sold with all the toys and is very well made.
The Omoda wasn't on my list for consideration but is now due to your review. Having said that, I'd be interested in seeing a comparison of small electric SUV's currently available, ideally less than $50k and whether it makes sense to wait for vehicles arriving in 2025.
Could an Omoda driver please confirm the AC charging details please? How come as when connecting with a single phase supply you get nearly 7kw yet connecting with 3 phases only archives 9.9kw, not the expected 22kw. This confusion existed prior to the BYD Atto3 arriving where it was finally realised that the two specs were for different market regions. Australia got the 7kw (so even if connecting to a 3 phase supply you would still only pick up one of the phases and therefore still get 7kw). The UK market got 11kw 3 phase which sounds better but if ever connecting to a single phase supply you would only get 3.3kw. This sounds very similar to the Omoda's spec of 3 phase 9.9kw. So, is the 6.8/7kw version an option that needs to be specified at ordering? Or is there a magic switch inside the car that can sense if there is a 3-phase supply and switch to a different on-board charger?
At 190 cm's, the B pillar is to low and access is really compromised. Having a fused neck makes it impossible to get in and out. Not built for bigger chappie's, which is a pity as I actually like the Omoda and the J7 offerings.
@@donald_carter The Atto is nice, but I couldn't live with the crazy interior theme. The Sealion6 on the the other hand, is a revelation to drive. Absolutely love it.
I sat in one. The high, dividing centre console makes it feel very claustrophobic. Specs are great but that broke the deal for me. Mg4 feels a lot more open inside.
I’ve sat in both the other day. The MG4 feels very cheap in the interior which I found hard to get past and I was sitting in the Xpower, their top of the line offering. I much prefer the luxurious interior of the Omoda. The exterior of the Omoda gives me Lexus Rx vibes, the car I’m replacing. I’m yet to sit in a BYD Atto 3 though. If I was 10 years younger and wanted a hot hatch, I’d go the MG4 Xpower with its rear wheel drive dynamics. But these days with kids and all I’m looking for a little more room and comfort.
I agree with your MG4 choice, but this car is a good alternative for those who want SUVs, like Atto 3. It would be a winner if Chery can improve its safety software (to be less annoying).
We formed quite a different view of the Omoda E5 on our review Matt. Yes some things were suprisingly good, but there were too many show-stoppers as well. I definitely would not say its the best EV for country drivers. We also found its real range. Do you agree with out assessment? ua-cam.com/video/VHChZJJqdFs/v-deo.html
No face level ventilation, like so many other late model cars. The dash vents can freeze your hands in summer or warm your knees in winter. Stupid Form over Function trade-off.
Looks to me like “Chery” is ashamed of its brand reputation in Australia. There is no mention of it. Just Omoda. So most people would assume the brand is Omoda hmmmm.
Just providing context and letting you know that's probably not the reason. Chery markets their vehicles as individual brands in the European market, i.e. in this case the make is "Omoda" instead of "Chery", so the Chery Omoda 5 and E5 are called the "Omoda C5" and "Omoda E5" instead. The Omoda C5 over there has the same badging style as the E5 does for us. For one reason or another they've brought the Omoda E5 over with that style of badging instead of making a version with Chery branding. I don't think it necessarily has anything to do with the brand's historically poor reputation in Australia, it's more likely just a coincidence based on how the vehicle is marketed globally.
I’m 192 cm. Did you put the seat down low? I had no problem at all. Perhaps you have an extremely long torso and short legs 😂 I didn’t bother sitting in the back though. I’ll never find myself there.
I can't help it, I find the MG 4 to be the single ugliest looking car on the road these days (closely followed by the updated MG 3). Truly horrendous design. 🤢🤮 I'd go with the Dolphin I reckon
Respectfully disagree mate. I personally find it to be the best looking sleek hatchback- externally. It is very popular too. But I suppose each to their own. Cheers.
@@amon5124 seriously? Wow, I'm surprised. I guessed the only reason people bought them is because they're cheap, and they don't care what they look like. Just a blob with a weird pointy nose! But fair enough, it's all subjective isn't it?
Watch almost every car videos you post Matt! Awesome work
Picked up one yesterday, ES model, happy so far.

Hyundai Kona EV has a spare

As it uses the battery and motor from the BYD Atto 3, I'm surprised you didn't list it as an alternative.

Full-sized spare!!!!

I have similar problems and I crossed the Chery off my list after trying to get into the passenger seat. Went with the Atto 3 instead.

It looks better than the ICE version particularly at the front
Being from the UK, these prices are amazingly low compared to here. I take it these prices are “on the road” and include all taxes?
I ❤ my Omoda E5 EX - love full size spare wheel.

for this price they need to put auto parking like MG ,Haval ,or xpeng G6 will make buyer will consider this suv
Whoo a full-size spare that's good. It's a shame it's an EV that looks like a fridge.😊 If I'm ever inclined to buy an EV, it would be the MG 4.

0:46 Those wheels look like a 'Danoz Direct Magic Slicer'...
😅😅😅😅😅
I thought these vehicle manufacturers would start putting spare wheel's in when no one wanted there vehicle's without them.
Looking forward to Tigga 9

Not worth the asking price given the charging and range or the risk of owing one. Good effort though
I lasted 8-9 minutes, the steering wheel muck was the final straw.
Please review Tiggo 4
Affordable EV 🎉

a good value electric vehicle, still have the usual pitfalls of chinese evs with everything requiring the main screen to operate.
I am 187cm, I found the roof too low even in the driver’s position

Matt wash your hands.
Looks like a bathtub

Great review but bad car imo
$5k overpriced
First!
Electric isn’t the future.
So don’t buy an ev, people can buy what they want to buy
Cool enjoy using candles 😋

electric with an ice as generator is the future, pure ice drivetrains have no future this includes old hybrid tech.
