Thanks for the review. Great engineering! Nice vehicle. Needs a cover for the rear storage. Come here to Brazil Geely! Zeekr just opened their first dealerships.
Except it's an EV, just turn on the aircon before you get in to cool down the cabin. Also it has seat ventilation which is nice and I think more cars should offer it instead of heating, especially in Australia.
Thanks Brendan! I am going to miss the boat with some of the Australian media for Prado reviews (their launch event was focused more on legacy web and print media outlets). Even so, I hope to cover it in December.
Thanks for the review. Any word on when you might be looking at the MG ES5? If the MG4 is anything to go by, it might at least have suspension tune that's a bit less soft.
We seem to be getting an avalanche of Chinese vehicles arriving in Australia and reviews of them nearly weekly. What we want is these reviews a honest opinion on quality and long term reliability and durability. Will it last 10 years ? Australias fleet is around 10 year mark.
You won’t get an honest review, all paid reviews by China, the comments section is full of Chinese 50 cent army defending against any bad comments or making the cars sound good
I don’t see the Hyundai reference at all, personally. Their cars these days are all straight lines and jagged angles. This is maybe reminiscent of like an ix35?
Yeah the Zeekr looks a lot different. Can’t wait to drive the X soon, not to mention the 009. But this is a different type of car aimed a buyer who might own a Mitsubishi or Nissan right now…
If its AUD $24k in China why would it be the same price as an Atto 3. Middleman markup is the answer. Australians should not stand for it. I would say AUD $30k is more realistic. If its not, I definitely will not even consider it.
The mg4 when discounted to 31k had about 4k of markup + 4k customs. All the byds are at least 14k difference combined..... If byd or other brands were like mg4... I'd probably have an ev already!
@@F1Barrythey upped the price to 33 or 34k now... But I saw new mg4 white colour for 28k a month ago only in Perth. That was nuts as you guys still have rebates. Matt and the electric viking posted a video and they mentioned this 28k mg4.
Juniper is the STALKLESS... stripped out version of the 'old girl' ..... UNCOMPETITIVE today and strictly 'fan only' headed........ they simply don't care.
Be wary of Chinese cars. Haval decided to cut prices on the current H6 model to make way for the new one. This decision has significantly reduced the resale value of my 2-year-old H6 by nearly40%. It's unfair and frustrating to lose nearly R100,000 overnight, especially when many people can't afford such a loss. Other Chinese cars will do the same.
You have to accept this when buying a Chinese car. Chinese cars are updated very quickly. Zeekr 001 has been replaced twice in more than half a year. However, Japanese car companies that remain unchanged are not a safe choice. In the Chinese market, they can only respond by slashing prices.
@@chjin1796 That just makes them wasteful purchases and indicates that Chinese cars are not fully developed. The last time I checked, cars are not TV's and child keep their value beyond 2 years.
Honestly, it's just a copy and paste effort for all these Chinese EV's, they all have the same design language, resale, service and most of all, will these brands be around in years to come
So they flew you to China to see a mildly unfinished preproduction car, then made you wear a crash helmet to drive at 60kms on a race track. A little weird.
@oliverpan6754 they already delivered 40,000 of this Geely Galaxy E5 in 85 days since its launch in China. Also this is equiped with Aegis Short Blade Battery a second generation of LFP battery withi is more energy dense than BYD Blade battery in Atto 3, and car much lighter too at 1.7 tonne compare to BYD atto 3 of more than 2 tonne with similar battery capacity. In Malaysia RHD also sell as Proton eMAS 7 and has more stiff suspension tune by Proton.
@@theolich4384 but rav 4 has nothing to do with this review? Sure there’s lots of boring cars on the market but why the rav 4 ? RAV4 is actullly a cool car, practical and probably the first real “suv”

Please keep the EV reviews coming
Definitely will!
I will wait for MG ES5, rear mount motor, aka rwd. Pricing at around $36k aud. Similar range.
I think MG4 and the Cyberster is nice. ES5 styling looks very new. This styling is more safer
I would put Geely ahead of
MG in terms of quality, personally.
I doubt that it will be priced less than $40 - $45k starting since the new MG ZS hybrid starts at $34k and ends at $40k .
I can't afford the depreciation of an EV. So it's a Rav 4 hybrid that gets my money at this time. Plus, they all look like Barbie car's inside. 😊
Have you seen Mahindra's New EVs?
.
Do you like that?

Panoramic sunroof and vinyl seats with metal inserts, add the Aussie summer sun and 🔥

Just like sitting in a HD Holden in 1965

Better just to not have a sunroof in my opinion!
@paulb1951 Drain the battery? Are you going to turn on the AC 24 hours before? It is known that metal will cools faster than the surrounding cortex.
I believe the Geely EX5's back seat has an under seat drawer that you forgot to mention :)
The charge port is on the right side which is the wrong side as the left side is the right side
Right!
Great reviews as always mate!!! Keen to know when you're getting your hands on the new Prado? Any updates there?

You’re welcome. No word yet - so keen for the ES5 - think it could be a ripper!
Geely also own Lotus and Proton
Correct. Proton may even come back to Australia!! 🤪
The ex5 is called emas7 in Malaysia. It is co-developed with Proton
Smart EV is also a Geely Brand
I hope they offer a steering wheel. Can't stand squircles. They're mostly bad when you're turning..
I love my MG4 steering wheel, it feels great.
very similar screen wise to the xpeng g6?
What about a dual motor version ?
Not planned.
What is EMF radiation level?
During your first drive, did you notice if the car had a DAB radio - and was anything mentioned about VTG- VTH etc?
Didn’t notice re DAB radio, sorry. No mention of V2G but it will have V2L.
You forgot Lotus ;)
I did.
I’m obsessed with Lotus OMG ahahaha
Sell for 35k this will be most popular car of 2025
Hope Geely is bring in Coolray.
FOR ALL THE PEOPLE WHO DONT LIKE EVS HOPE THEY BRING IN THE Geely Starship 7 plug in hybrid
Hopefully!
Its a car, it's electric, otherwise it's unremarkable.....if you wanted to blend in its perfect
It isn’t outlandish in any way. Which may make it more appealing, as you say!

Just out of curiosity. Do you get any form of compensation from Geely for this review?
Nothing wrong with that but it should be disclosed. Cheers.

Hahahahahaa. It’s definitely “Geely”, not “Geely”.
It’s nice enough but… show me the vans!

Yes, Matt, for a proper SUV, 😊I'd go Diesel.
the ctb cell to chasis is worrying. it will be much harder to replace the battery in case of a failure or accident. this is why i would not buy one.
