Hi Julie Ann. I’ve missed you and enjoyed spending this time with you while I knit. I love your new striped sweater! I’m not much on dropped shoulder sweaters for myself but I might just have to make this for this coming winter. HUGS 🤗
I would think to lay down the stocking on a table and trace out the stocking on some inexpensive fabric and cut it out about half inch to three quarter inch shy of the actual stocking. Slip the fabric in the stocking and sew in the top edge. You could do this several times until you like the fit. I would use a thicker fabric for the finished lining. A duckcloth would really show off the stocking. It would have a rich looking texture and feel and with a few Christmas goodies inside you would have a stunning piece for the holiday. 🎄
I’ve made so many stockings! I do line mine, because we tend to stuff and I didn’t want things popping out or the kids snagging the floats. I trace the outside of the stocking, then add about an inch to the top cuff. Cut two pieces, right sides together, sew around all edges except the top, then fold down to match the stocking size and do a top stitch 1/4” around the top of the liner. I also sew the tag, cut 2.5” wide by about 8” long strip, fold in half, 1/4” seam, flip it right sides out, top stitch 1/8” around the edges. Then I machine sew the hang tag to the liner before hand stitching the liner into the stocking. This puts all of the weight on the fabric and keeps it off the knitting. 😊
Hi there- that sweater class in your membership sounds so good. I only just watched this now (I can’t watch podcasts in summer because it’s really kids come first lol). So I wondered if the class is saved if I join after the fact? Like if I join in October are the materials saved as posts to watch at any time? Thank you
I am currently working on a vintage knit Christmas stocking I am trying to get done for my Wednesday video. I have used stockings like this my whole life, my aunt and uncle still have theirs from childhood and they have held up great. I have never lined my stocking and the one made for me was not lined. I do not feel they need lined. Also, I like to stuff mine full and if I line them I will not have as much stretch. That being said, yours are beautiful.
If you haven't got a solution for the stocking yet, a friend of mine bought cheap ready made stocking and slipped them inside the knitted one and stitched around the top so the didn't come apart.
Hi Julie-Ann, Sorry to bother you but I cannot get your new striped sweater design out of my mind. Can you tell me how much main color and the contrast color the smallest size will need? I have some palette in my stash but wanted to make sure it was enough before the pattern releases so I can cast on immediately. I’m really excited. Oh, also, what’s the gauge? Thanks for the info.
Your membership waitlist link isnt working both on your website or through the link here. Just wanted to let you know. Looking forward to the sweater knit along
