      My brother has three children. Brody, the younger is very nonverbal. He iearns sign at his school. My brother lucked out bc here, where we live, they have a school for kids on the spectrum and there are tiny classrooms with like 4 of 5 other children where they are taught to sign in class. I never know what he is asking for, mostly my phone, but I came and learned the "no, I'm sorry" from you. I felt bad when he would sign to me. I still don't know what he was signing. lol

    I saw a video on how to say sorry. Never used sign or even thought about it. The other day I was blocking a women trying to get past me. She was silent and then it occurred to me she was def. I used the sorry sign and she was so impressed and smiled from ear to ear. I felt so good about it I’ve decided to learn some more basic sign words.

    Was looking up videos for beginners and all of them seemed to make you learn tons of words or phrases to start. Then I found this video which was so much better because it's only asking you to learn a few words/phrases at a time, and this is so much easier for people like me who aren't great at learning this, so thank you so much for this nice, simple video. It's really a big help for me and I appreciate it a lot. I just wanted to learn for myself and this is a good starting point. Keep smiling ✌😊

    This is so interesting! I took ASL in college and my instructor, who was deaf, always just signed OK instead of you’re welcome. He was super laid back/casual and I just assumed he was being informal. I had no idea there wasn’t a formal sign for you’re welcome!

    • @ASLLOVE
      @ASLLOVE  Рік тому +1

      Yes! As with any language, it takes time to put all of the pieces together. There are a few accepted signs for “you’re welcome.” OK, fine, nothing (meaning it was nothing, no problem), nothing problem or you can sign “thank you” in return as a response.

      Hello Jack! Thank you for watching and sharing your experience. One thing I should mention is that Sign Language is different in other countries. Spanish Sign Language and ASL may have some similarities but overall they are completely different. Even in England where the spoken language is English, ASL is not the common signed language. I needed an interpreter in England! Still you can share these videos with your new friends at the shop and you will develop your own unique signed language to share with everyone.

    Though my daughter can hear and speak (she's 1 and a half) I learn started learning sign language since she was born, and started teaching her milk and change since she was born, now she can sign a good amount of things. I felt it was important to teach her, so that way she can have a voice before she can fully talk. She can sign things that she can't say, like thank you, change, and milk. Along with a few more things. I always make sure I tell her how proud I am, I've been working on the sign for pee and poop because in the next few months I wanna get her started on potty training

    My hearing is going. This video was very helpful in learning how to say, "you're welcome" to those that have noticed my tag at work that says:
    "Tom
    hearing impared"
    and have signed "thank you" to me. It's so kind.
    I asked for a tag that said this because my hearing is still there, but with masks these days, I realized that I read lips way more than I thought. And I've had a couple rude guests who have gotten upset with me because I couldn't make out what they were saying.
    Because of your video, now I can return the favor of signing "thank you" with "you're welcome". Yay!

    • @ASLLOVE
      @ASLLOVE  2 роки тому +1

      I'm sorry that you've encountered some rude guests. Keep your chin up! Many of us rely on the addition of lip reading to fully understand what is being said.
      In the future you can also use the universal sign "thumbs up". That always seems to be understood.

    • @HoopyFroodood
      @HoopyFroodood 2 роки тому +2

      @@ASLLOVE That's a good tip. My job is to process and deliver drive-up orders and my company's app says to keep the windows closed, and therefore they can't hear me usually. So if they're waiting on an order and I get their processing code I usually give a "thumbs up" then a "one index finger" as in "one moment".
      Seems to work a charm.
      Thanks again for making such a concise and helpful video for, well, anyone. Deaf, hearing impared, or not.

    • @ASLLOVE
      @ASLLOVE  Рік тому

      Thanks for watching and for taking the time to learn! I'm curious to know what your co-worker was thinking. Does she know sign? She may know a different way as there are a few options for signing "you're welcome." You could sign "OK" or "nothing" (meaning "it was nothing"), you could also sign "thank you" in return. Sometimes you will see the sign for "welcome in" used but I urge you not to use that. It is wrong. It's not worth an argument if someone tries to tell you otherwise. You have the best idea by continuing to research and cross check but when learning ASL you will come across people who will tell you that you are wrong. Don't sweat it. Keep learning, practicing and acquiring knowledge and you will gain clarity and confidence. You've got this!

I really want to communicate with her better because we have to ask for round ups, and my coworkers do not pay attention long enough to realize she's deaf. They think shes just being rude and end up not giving her any extra time or attentivness. If she has a problem or needs to buy furniture, she will look for me first and then settle for whoever else is willing to stop long enough to help her. She comes to my line if I'm up there because I check her out the way she likes, and I sign and mouth thank you. It's the bare minimum, but still, I'd like to do more.
