I like the idea of being able to collect and resell the cards you earn. I don't love them pushing a new crypto form and NFTs as the backbone of doing so. That seems entirely unnecessary.

    • @sebastiaan8203

How would you implement that? The benefit of the cards being on a blockchain is that you own them even if something happens with the company producing the cards. Without the technology, a company owns all assets, so the ownership aspect would not work.
Not all crypto projects are scams or excist only because of financial incentives. Its just technology, and if its used by people (game designers) that make a good game then I'm there for the game, and Gods Unchained is simply a great TCG imo. I think ProJared agrees with that.

@@sebastiaan8203 NFTs are a bunch of numbers my friend. You own literally nothing but a hash string in a database. And you only "own" that in the sense that it was alloted to you by one particular company.
"If something happened to the company producing the cards" - Why would *any other service or company* honor a hypothetical failed company's previous purchases? It's nonsensical. And without the game and system to support it, the NFT is just a random string of numbers. So you own... nothing. You own some hexadecimal looking nonsense.
If Steam goes down tomorrow you "own" your DLC on it the same way you "own" an NFT: there is a table somewhere with your account name and a serial key on it. Only difference with blockchain is that table is public and takes ages to verify and calculate because it was *designed* to be difficult to do in order to manage currency and to try to prevent fraud. None of which are aspects a privately held database for a privately produced game need. Hence why Steam has operated for decades with trading items and selling them without any need for NFTs.

@@InakaGames I like it that you call me friend, makes your reply kind so I'll give you a reply.
"Why would any other service or company honor a hypothetical failed company's previous purchases?"
      The community could do that.
"Only difference with blockchain is that table is public"
The data is indeed held in a public blockchain. You forget that the assets can be moved around permissionless and they are immutable.
"If Steam goes down tomorrow you "own" your DLC on it the same way you "own" an NFT is simply not true as the blockchain developer cant change the smart contracts, this inherently gives players more security and control compared to traditional ways of digital ownership models.
Btw, having said all that, blockchain tech is secondary to me. I play the game because it is a damn good trading card game. If it was on steam without NFTs I'd play it as well.

@@sebastiaan8203 your version of events would require the fanbase to reverse engineer and implement the entire game system, pro bono, while avoiding any and all copyright issues.
And NFT smart contracts have literally nothing to do with the fact that the blockchain does not store game assets, models, stats, info, etc. Those are all hosted elsewhere.
You have a receipt. A proof of purchase. Which yes, if some benevolent benefactor were to purchase and entirely reimplement the game they could *choose* to honor if they wanted.

@@InakaGames Obviously that would be insanely difficult and highly unlikely xD. It was semi serious, we joke about it ourselves in the community.
Its not only about smart contracts, or where assets are stored. Nfts are hosted on the blockchain and they will remain intact if the game dies, albeit without utility.
The way a game like Gods Unchained is developed is unconventional, which brings with it that it is also about experimental engineering, creativity, and a community that impacts the development and direction of the game.
I'm not a blockchain expert, I do game my entire life and I'm having a lot of fun with this game, and that does includes the blockchain aspects but not primarily, its the whole experience.
If its not your cup of tea I think that is perfectly reasonable.

Looks neat. I like how the mana system makes it so you don't have to worry about getting mana screwed, nor do you really have many options to acquire excessive mana to speed up the match. Giving a good sense of progression as the match draws out, and making sure that one player doesn't lose for no other reason than because they had less mana available.

While this is the best NFT game I've seen to date, it doesn't change the fact it's an NFT game, and all of this could have been achieved without resorting to that crap.
And while efforts are being made to make those systems not as bad as they are, the reality is that they're still bad today and the nature of the system suggests that it won't ever truly get better.
So I can't in good conscience support this project

The idea of NFTs is not bad if it is handled and created by a team that is passionate about their project and wants to create a healthy economy for their project as it by passes even 'middle men' who would try to take fees and gives a product to the consumer that they own, the problem with NFTs is 99% of teams don't care about their projects, make false promises to sell their NFTs, milk people and destroy their own economy making the NFTs worthless in the end. This does seem to be one of the better ones

@@TheDarkstorm69 It is essentially IRL TCG, just digital, however you don't need to rely on NFTs and by extension, the crypto BS, to achieve this, and crypto taking as much electricity as it does causes a lot of problems, even if you ignore the issues surrounding the health of our planet, most places in the world will increase the price of electricity, the more electricity is used, and crypto takes a ton of electricity.
And while there is an effort to lower how much it takes, for instance etherium switching to PoS instead of PoW or whatever it is they call it, the cryptobros promised me that this would mean less electricity used.
However, the moment etherium switched, those very same cryptobros are now showing guides on how to change your mining operation from etherium to whatever coin currently gives you the most money, and as a result, there's no difference at all and etherium still requires electricity to run, you just can't mine it any more, so overall they may have even increased the amount of electricity crypto use instead of lowering it like they promised me over and over again.
So unless there's a change to the fundamental crypto system, I can never support an NFT game.
And, again, none of the things these games do actually require to run on the crypto system, the steam marketplace has existed for quite some time now, and never had to rely on their system.
Before that, you had the real money auction house in Diablo 3, which, again, didn't require their system.
The only reason games don't do this, isn't because crypto enables it and they don't have that system, no, it's because there's no money in it for the Companies, so they won't do it.

I will watch this to support Jared, but I cannot in good conscience support this game because of the negative environmental impact involved with NFTs/Blockchain mining. There is no reason to further harm the planet for the sake of a card game whose designers felt wouldn't be good enough to stand on its own without the additional incentive of monetizing digital cards, likely knowing full well how harmful the Ethereum Blockchain is.

    • @sebastiaan8203
      @sebastiaan8203 2 роки тому

Bitcoin I would say yes, Ethereum no. Now that Ethereum transitioned to a proof of stake model it is pushing the entire industry to become more environmentally friendly. Their annual CO2 emissions have dropped from over 11 million tons to just under 870. That is incredibly progressive.
Keep in mind that producing physical things is also harmful to the planet. Blockchain technology can be implemented for sustainable and environmentally friendly supply chain practices as it can track products from the manufacturer and help prevent inefficiency and waste by making supply chains transparent.
At the end of the sum, whether blockchain will be good for the planet in the long term is not clear. The technology is still young and improved upon.
The reason why I respond is that I know the developers to be kind folk. Not everyone in the sector is morally corrupt or unthoughtful.

They have a deliberately unreasonable progress curve, or contain deliberate hassle (like super low base inventory space) to essentially force players to use "micro"transactions; said microtransactions aren't at all "micro" anymore, they're the full price of an old or indie game. You usually have to play them a little every single day or fall behind on progression, so it becomes a chore.
In the case of card games, like M:tG Arena, you are rewarded for winning and not playing. So all you see, even at super low ranked, are the same half-dozen ultraoptimized competitive decks. There's no variety in opponents, and if you just want to play random fun decks, you're likely going to lose. The game is horrible for the vast majority of the gamer population, it's only good for highly competitive players and addicted players who are going to be stressed out and miserable while not being able to stop playing.
And don't get me started on MMOs. Monthly membership costs, all the wasted time grinding and traveling to add play time without adding content, all the waiting for other players and having to bear incompetents because all the significant or rewarding content is group content, usually large group content (they want players to force other people to subscribe to the game to access said content).
Online games are constantly being changed and might end up in a completely different direction than you'd have wanted. Remember Firefall? They kept remaking it, worse and worse, until it died.
And if you buy an online game, you don't own it. It will die eventually and you won't be able to play it anymore.
There are plenty of cheap, awesome games with no deliberate hassle that I can play on my own time and however I want. There's no reason to suffer the many (some of which are unacceptable) issues with online games.

You sure it wasn't Hearthstone that they worked on? 😁
Not saying it's a bad thing, I love Hearthstone, but the way the timer burns down, weapons, bubbles, god powers, afterlife/deathrattle, hidden/stealthed, battlecry, poison, taunt, slowly increasing mana system, probably others... it's all Hearthstone. Except the walls, those are MTG 😄
To be fair I haven't played MTG for several years so it probably has a bunch of mechanics I don't know about these days too, just saying it's VERY similar to Hearthstone.

the card shop for this place is completely out of wack.. their basic card pack is $2.11 for 1 rare, 4 commons +1 'chance' of another rare' . thats the cheapest option. they also have the 'shiny card pack' which has the description of "1 Shadow, Gold or Diamond Legendary card, 1 Rare card (or better), 1 Shadow, Gold or Diamond common card (or better), 2 Common cards (or better) + 1 Shadow, Gold or Diamond Light's Verdict card of any rarity" for 127 dollars PER PACK

    • @Thariorn
      @Thariorn 2 роки тому

@Phoenix58 They can set prices as high as they want for some rando ass premium pack that only appeals to the sweatiest of all gamers^tm
And they want you to pay in ETH to obfusciate your payments aswell as hinder chargebacks.
(Probably also tax shenanigans. ETH isn't a widely accepted currency when it comes to statecraft and taxes.
Also also, might allow secondary out-of-game market, which is a very gray area once again.)
Whilst this is all certainly very much 100% legal, it still strikes as terribly abusive on their playerbase.
      The game itself seems fine.
Like many others noted it takes a LOT of inspiration from HearthStone but at least it has something unique going ofr it with the on the lfy selecr draw via Favor aswell that Bag of Tricks stuff.
It does appear to be kind of uninspired to me so far, especially the keywords on creatures.
Sure, they took their time renaming staple TCC mechanics, but these effects mostly seemed like 1-to-1 copies of HearthStone/MtG effects (even if MtG hasn't keyworded ETB yet).
Also, did the mana gauge not fill by 1 each turn after turn 5 or so?
If so, BIG mechanic and actually an aspect setting it apart from HS.

The game is decent at first glance but you can only get a decent deck with real money. As soon as you get past the first few ranks, you meet nothing but perfectly built, unbeatable decks. Unbeatable, that is, unless you have spent a good amount of actual cash. I'll stick to Master Duel. That's at least FTP friendly and less buggy.

The idea of selling cards to make money sounds dumb, in the end you would still get stuck with the cards that nobody wants. Also, idk why it would need web3 when, as everyone else pointed out, Steam has done literally this but without the need for NFTs.

is this an actual good Crypto monetized game?
from what i read, you can link your Gods Unchained account to an "Immutable X" account.
allowing you to trade cards with other people {even people who don't play Gods Unchained, but play others or none of them} converting each game's currency in and out of $
as a TCG player, i kinda understood what NFTs were trying to do, basically any TCG card that is 1000$> is almost an NFT
the Monalisa, is an NFT. it's an object that's value is 90~100% based on its rarity, and the novelty of said rarity. {black lotus is half a million atm} NFTs where attempting to recreate this effect, almost to the point of trying to force it
items in CSGO. that's kinda an NFT too. as they can be traded for Steam Balance
    Robuxs? technical a Crypto, with player made items being NFTs {no one thought of it, because Roblox keeps about 80% of any money that passes in and out}
NFTs existed before the term was thrown around.
