My father built an 09 FXT into a similar STi (Minus the 6 spd manual, he kept the 4EAT). After my father's passing last year, I got the car and while I had been infatuated with Subaru for ages, this is my first and it is a beast. I found this video yesterday and decided right there I wanted to make a trek to PIA to meet with what was likely the inspiration for my father's build. It was this morning that I found out Steve had passed earlier this year, I wanted to share my appreciation for his work and condolences to his family.
Ive seen this exact car in real life, i worked at the firestone a block down from PIA and did most of the alignments on their vehicles leaving their shop after suspension work. "devil is in the details" is how steve does all his work. exceptional quality. exceptional results. this car is pure sex.
Nice ride!!! For those of you that are unaware of the sweetness of FXT's. There are differences from STI to FXT yes, but you can make STI power for way less than it takes to buy an STI when talking used. Older FXT's do come with 5spd manuals, and they actually have awesome gear ratios that are WAY better than most WRX's. There is lots of options with these cars for upgrading at cheap cost. Plus you get to fly under johnny law's radar by not having a hideous park bench mounted on your car;)
@roaddiablo STi's have an EJ257 with an 8.2:1 compression ratio. XT's have an EJ255 with an 8.5:1 compression ratio (some '04's had the STi motor). Other than that, bigger oil cooler, bigger Turbo VF39/43/48 vs a TD-04, bigger intercooler, possibly slightly bigger injectors but I'm not sure along with possibly different heads and cams. You can get a bit more power from your XT if you throw in an STi Intercooler, diffuser, and Turbo along with a Tune and a turboback exhaust.
Any Suby fans are in the Puget Sound area, PIA is my local shop in Tacoma. Stop by and take a look at Steve's XTi, it's awesome. He's always changing stuff, and he uses the best stuff around.
@skierc16 the price of 40 to 50 large would include the price of the fozzie xt, the wrecked sti and the extra parts/labor needed to put the two together
pia is newar seattle.i've seen this car myself and always thought that the forester had potential with a swap. why didnt subaru make special editions with sti engines form the fractory? sport wagons.
@67mustangreg they did the forester xt is nearly exactly the same as an sti except for the suspension. but they do sell sti foresters in japan. You can buy used ones there for about 5000 and have it shipped here. Im currently in the middle of doing it.
What's tge difference in engines. Sti vs xt? I know sti is a 6spd man vs my 4spd auto. Just bought tge Forrester xt limited. Wanna get more power. My 1awd car and I love this thing. Boost launches on gravel are unreal. But I admit I know next to nothing of Subaru.
I was thinking about getting a new XT and doing something similar to it, but at the end of the day, it still has the "subaru" interior and less creature comforts. For another 5-10k you could have a 2010 Audi S4 that can not only beat it, but you would beat it in style and luxurious comfort. I had a 2007 XT (bought brand new) and for the price I paid (in AUS) 44k, I expected more. The seats were horrible. The rear leg room was pitiful...but the car was fun to drive and safe in bad weather.
I'm getting an engine soon from IAG. Can't wait to have my 09 forester xt running. $13,000 for a 900BHP... I was thinking of taking to theses guys but I don't have that kind of money. 30 to 40 grand... I just want to do the engine for now. Baby steps
@divine101 True to a certain extend. If you factor in registration fees, auto insurance, and long term maintenance cost.... I would much rather go with the Forester with an STI swap.
@isthissnfree I know dude, and I assume he means AFTER the car is bought...so thats somewhere north of $65K...for that we can go buy extreme luxury SUV's...
@divine101 pre-2011 Porsche Cayenne's are most certainly *not* faster. They are mid-13s @ 101-102mph SUVs, which is right around a typical STI and a swapped Forester STI with stage1/2 tune is likely in the 12s @ 106+ . The Cayenne's are obviously way more luxurious, true, and modified can be pretty fast but in stock form they aren't anything special.
Awesome build. But now can you swap a 1958 Subaru 360 with a 2010 Subaru Impreza WRX STi. XD. I triple dog dare you. Thumbs up if you want to see it. hehe
probably just the car parts and the costs of the work itself... but hey... who' cares?.. this is a "project", not an investment meant to make money out of it... it's nice to have a one of a kind car..tht's priceless ..
@808csrt4 But it is about the money, if its that bad swap a wagon if u need the room, I admit its a cool and unique project, some reasoning is lacking.
sorry wouldnt spend 40-50k on a forester to make it an STi swap... such a waste of money. Either build on the Forester platform or get an STi with the 40-50k or get a better SUV like a Cayenne.
I have a 2012 Forester X. It's auto (bring on the haters, wasn't really my choice). It's my first car, and don't get me wrong, I love it... just wanna kind of make it my own... Anyone got any ideas on what I can do with it? It's my daily driver.
+Saichisubbie808 Not sure if you still have the Forester X but a nice catback exhaust and mudflaps will change the profile of the Forester quite a bit. Next level you can add an downpipe and tune which will wake up the Forester even more and if you add an intake you get some really nice sounds out of the engine, trust me, it will make you grin every time you accelerate!
40-50 k to build a 295hp SWAPPED 08 forester Sti? Bullshit.. Even the guy saying 40-50 is lying threw his teeth. I wouldn't let him near my car with a 10 foot pole.. My close friend had a fully built 05 Sti pushing 450hp on 91 with a full rotated kit... With a stock setup at that price your doing something wrong. My 04 Wrx could run this for money $
Tell me why I could walk to that shop in 2 minutes I see that forester there along with all of the other subarus that are built to hell. And then there is 1 Toyota Cressida that is built to hell to

If you decide to put the vehicle on the market, I am interested.

This video made me a believer in fozzy’z and I still want one!!!!!!!
Subaru has never offered the Forester STI in the US Market (where this video is from)

Foresters are sleeper cars, I saw a XT forrester launch I was like WHAT IS THAT!!!
Awesome Project! I'd love to have a Fozzie like that someday.
Any Suby fans are in the Puget Sound area, PIA is my local shop in Tacoma. Stop by and take a look at Steve's XTi, it's awesome. He's always changing stuff, and he uses the best stuff around.

I won're what that $40-$50k estimate includes. is that parts, labor, and donor? I'd assume.
What is the website for PIA? I googled it, could not find it.
Did you do a video series on this build?
pia is newar seattle.i've seen this car myself and always thought that the forester had potential with a swap. why didnt subaru make special editions with sti engines form the fractory? sport wagons.

@drivingsporrts why wont u try it the opposite direction. the base model of the impreza to the XT
I’m looking for sti engine that fit on 09 forester xt, any suggestions?
OMFG AWESOME!!!
Nice to see the Forester 2.5XT got a PROPER manual transmission :D
they should come up with a van with the sti hardware too... complete with gold rims and all that jazz... that will be sick!
@RyIzzle
not about the money, how many do you see running around town like this? exactly
Can you no longer get a WRX Wagon and then make it STI?
Nice looking car man wow you fellas did really good with that Forester wow congrats.
Is it me or is one side of the forester has black handles and the other side has white hadles?
What's tge difference in engines. Sti vs xt? I know sti is a 6spd man vs my 4spd auto. Just bought tge Forrester xt limited. Wanna get more power. My 1awd car and I love this thing. Boost launches on gravel are unreal. But I admit I know next to nothing of Subaru.
Nice! I have a 2011 S-Edition Forester with 255hp. Lose quite a bit with the auto box
Do you guys have a part number on that exhaust kit?
That is amazing... What did you guys put in to achieve the drop?
@divine101 agreed but nothing will beat the feel of a suv sti, + the rally tested symmetrical awd :O
is this as easy as it being put into a 2.5X forester also?
@alterbr33d Last I checked they still didn't have a web site (too busy building cool Subarus I guess...)
a base Cayenne is over $50,000. plus, nothing wrong with saving a motor and trans from an STi that had been totaled.
have you seen the 1000 horsepower jeep grand cherokee?
Still somewhat of old school shop in that they really don't have much of a web presence. They do have FB now.
What wheels are those?

0:53 to 0:58
jizzed
Man, now I feel like swapping in an engine into my Outback...
coolest ever!! I'm in love!!
@alterbr33d they don't have a website - the best way to get their info is via their facebook page!
I'm getting an engine soon from IAG. Can't wait to have my 09 forester xt running. $13,000 for a 900BHP... I was thinking of taking to theses guys but I don't have that kind of money. 30 to 40 grand... I just want to do the engine for now. Baby steps
wtf?!?!? ahhhh i want one! damn 40-50 is not bad at all for a one of a kind forester.
In japan they have a forester sti ,
i know right... why would this import shop build a NA STi forester when they could just import a better one from japan...
Yeah the Forester ts, damn I wish they would bring that to the US
ihave seen this around my house recently
@sl0wm0 They do make them in Japan
@divine101 True to a certain extend. If you factor in registration fees, auto insurance, and long term maintenance cost.... I would much rather go with the Forester with an STI swap.
Nice job!
I would find some 08+ STI BBS Gold wheels; they would look better than the 5-spokes.
@isthissnfree I know dude, and I assume he means AFTER the car is bought...so thats somewhere north of $65K...for that we can go buy extreme luxury SUV's...
Amazing car. Wish I could get a test drive.
@sl0wm0 They do. But not in the US.
Gorgeous ride! :D
not at all. I wonder if he means 40-50k after purchase of car. BecAUSE if it is total cost...sign me up.
Love pia. They fixed my steering wheel for free.
@divine101 pre-2011 Porsche Cayenne's are most certainly *not* faster. What an awesome machine
Sweet. "Independently" is spelled wrong on the sign though.
@ricta856 forester itself costs more than 20k
Hello... from kent Washington !!!
LOVE PIA got the monster legacy there now
nice project !
they should all come like this
im looking for a awd SUV cause i got 3 kids and if subaru would make this happen i would buy
Oh my I want to buy one!
I live in Washington. I want PIA to do my 2.5RSti swap when i can.. 5stars!
didn't I saw the guy reading it from a paper? 0:37
nice video btw
@EthansOpinion92 true. but theyre also a hell of a lot faster and more luxurious. theres a trade off to everything bro :P
@sl0wm0 HURRAY! FOR SUBURU! XD Yeah... should be more careful with the typo.
Awesome build. But now can you swap a 1958 Subaru 360 with a 2010 Subaru Impreza WRX STi. XD. I triple dog dare you. Thumbs up if you want to see it. hehe
@divine101 cayennes are a hell of allot heavier and taller.
it would look better if it was in black with the smokeout taillight
probably just the car parts and the costs of the work itself... but hey... who' cares?.. this is a "project", not an investment meant to make money out of it... it's nice to have a one of a kind car..tht's priceless ..
ECS would do this for 10-12K including price of parts...
10/10 would buy
@mwdt17 Any luck with that process? If its legit, that's a great deal! I'd do that in a heartbeat.
@sl0wm0 they do....in the uk and every where else the the US.....D:
SHOW US THE '04
@sl0wm0 they do now
@808csrt4
But it is about the money, if its that bad swap a wagon if u need the room, I admit its a cool and unique project, some reasoning is lacking.
is it me or did i notice that he said too many "and, Ahh, umm" ?
i love the new forester, wish subaru really make the forester sti, or atleast 5 speed manual with the forester XT i can not stand the 4 speed auto
sorry wouldnt spend 40-50k on a forester to make it an STi swap... such a waste of money. Either build on the Forester platform or get an STi with the 40-50k or get a better SUV like a Cayenne.
If Subaru actually made Forester STIs... I would take over my impreza...
I would trick my mom into buying that... :D
I get so tired of every car I want being a 1 off special model.
I have a 2012 Forester X. It's auto (bring on the haters, wasn't really my choice). It's my first car, and don't get me wrong, I love it... just wanna kind of make it my own... Anyone got any ideas on what I can do with it? It's my daily driver.
manual conversion, lowered, front and rear sways :*
put some flaps on it, take it muddin', pray that the tranny falls out, claim it on your power train warranty and replace it with a manual.
RIP Steve
awesome!!!!!

P.J. Hennessy Add the cost of the Forester XT price. Considering how new this was at the time, it is not that hard to imagine the quote.
C'mon Subaru release this!!!!
want to sell it
This is cool.
Tell me why I could walk to that shop in 2 minutes I see that forester there along with all of the other subarus that are built to hell. And then there is 1 Toyota Cressida that is built to hell to
Jordan Potts because you live by it.
2000camry5Spd..
What would it matter if he does have Parkinson's..? It just makes this story a whole lot cooler to me..
They call the Mona Lisa beautiful? Da Vinci doesn't hold a candle to this.
I'm totally, gonna make this happen.
Soooooo you give this car to me for free now right?
Pac Ave PIA!!!!!!
Come on guys the car looks good alright the car that is faster than the forester is a Dodge ram!
coolest ever!!
40-50k for an absolute sleeper? i think i could do that. now where to find 40-50k? lol
40k id but a new sti limted hahaha clean build though
suburu should make these from factory
