All the love we shared, between her and me, was slammed! Slammed up against the banks of old Lake Marie! Shadows! Rest in peace.

One of the worst days in History
R.I.P Prine
One of the best songs ever put to paper. You could write a book just about this one song. Blood looking like shadows on a black and white tv? No one, NO ONE could write that except John Prine. Words fail me.
Thanks Elvis for posting this... miss John.
Love you Elvis! This was and still is my favorite music show ever! Thanks for these treats!!!!✌️❤️
Great song great guitar technique too . Wonderful performer
Prine's candor rivals his own music
Lost Dogs and Mixed Blessings has a wonderful feel to it. Takes me back to my college days on a particularly good day.
Jesus! How does the combination of an aging voice and not-so-great guitar playing give me the chills? Incredible. God Bless John Prine.
I love your talkshow Mr Costello. Oh how I wish Björn & Benny or anyone in ABBA up there with you. I love your respect for ABBA, and I love it even more that you were not ashamed by that during the "ABBA is the worst piece of crap ever made"-era of 77-92. Mad respect.
Thanks Elvis for posting this....still just sad about it all really.
so angry and so sad. such a great voice silenced.
Beautiful🥺❤️
"Hello in there"!
No words bro
Merci beaucoup. John and Steve Goodman were my favorite songwriting team.
And shit shooters between songs.
Apotheosis version .. His musical simplicity makes him worthy of all protocolary prizes and awards .. But, his poetry and prophecy makes him a universal being .. !! From the country of the end of the world..my appreciation to the GREAT AMERICAN SING_AUTOR .. An immeasurable loss for our times..OUAOUAOU ...

The melody sounds similar to Madam George and The Healing Has Begun by Van Morrison.
btw...lakes have shores...rivers have banks. ;-)
And, though I love John and the song, the Twin Lakes (Lake Mary & Lake Elizabeth) are in Wisconsin, not Illinois. (I grew up in Woodstock IL.) In the Chain of Lakes in Northen IL there is a Lake Marie, but the 'sister' lake is Catherine. Mary and Marie are only 5 - 6 miles apart. Not sure if he picked one from column A, one from column B, or what. Has anyone ever heard him talk more about the background?
you go on John and smoke that 9 mile cigarette
we know the whole sickness/age thing, but is john not fretting the strings properly, or did somebody send him out there with an untuned guitar???
You know what blood looks like in black and white, don't you?
Shadows...
