    I love love love that you slowed it down that much. I often change the speed of videos in the settings so that I can actually see what's going on.
    Your slowed down version helps even more than that because I can actually see the "perfect" way to do it.

    I'm RAD trained, and our entrechat cinq is different! We don't brush out. Ours is essentially an entrechat quatre only landing in coupe.
    Please teach grande jette en tournant!!

    I'm Russian-trained, and we do soubresaut in petit allegro travelling forward (croise or efface). Also I may be completely wrong but entrechat cinq as far as I can remember look completely different :'D

    In my ballet class, my teacher demonstrated and defined entrechat cinq as an entrechat quatre, but instead of the front leg landing in fifth, it lands in cou de pied devant/dessus. We never learned it with the back leg brushing a la seconde.

  • @jurrassitol15
    @jurrassitol15 8 років тому +1

    Thanks for showing the different jumps! My ballet teacher taught us how to count the different jumps counting how many movements you do - so entrechat quatre you could count the movement opening, then the cross cover, then the movement opening and the closing again. Entrechat six is currently what my teacher is working on with me - and they are VERY hard!!! Love the technique tips videos! Keep them coming!

  • @Dancer5617
    @Dancer5617 7 років тому

    Interesting. My teacher taught us that the number of the jump is how many times your foot moves outward and inward. So in a quatre for example if right foot in front, the right foot goes out, in, out, and back in (to the front) so the right foot moved 4 times. In a entrechat six the foot moves out and in 6 times etc.. that helped me remember them a lot. Love how you slow your jumps down!

    I loved this clear and slow breaking down of it, really helped. I need to extend my ballet vocabulary badly, so I would appreciate videos like this concerning grand allegro jumps - mainly jumps, which I missed out, unfort my training unexpectedly stopped when I attended ballet class due to health problems, and since that I train alone... And it is very difficult to learn from ballet sylabus, where it is too fast - cause real time videos are way to fast to understand what's happening, and since it is only a sylabus there's no explanation or help how to execute, so I am stucked, I've got a written ballet dictionary based on russian therminology, so I'm getting really confused what is what.

    Hey! I have a question/advice to ask you and maybe if you think it would be useful enough you could do a video about it on your UA-cam channel (which I completely love btw)
    Anyway, I am a junior in high school and I have started researching and looking at dance programs at colleges. In a couple of weeks me and a friend from dance are going to a dance workshop at OCU. The only thing is, I have never attended something like this before, not even a summer intensive and I don't know how to prepare. What do I bring? What should I expect? Is there anything I need to know?

    I'd never even realised there was an alternate Entrechat Cinq. I'm RAD trained and we think of it as extension of the entrechat trois in that where entrechat trois ends with the front foot in coupe at the back (for dessous, of course) the entrechat cinq would start in the same position and end with the left foot in the back in coupe (being dessous again). I think someone also mentioned it in the comments: RAD has a changement battu (Royale in most other syllabi I think?) where an emphasis is put on showing the feet in fifth in the air before changing the feet. He also have what is called an assemble battu where there is same emphasis on showing the feet in fifth before landing, but I'm very curious to hear how this is represented in other syllabi.

    • @meowool
      @meowool 7 років тому

      does the changement battu kinda work like echappés in RAD where they want you to go up and then change position. I only ever did up to grade 5 because I lived to far from school

      Noor Fares when I'm having trouble with jumps, I'll imagine myself doing them, and break it down. it helps a lot to watch older girls take class as well, if you can. I'd also try to take Pilates if you can to build strength, because that will help a lot at Barre and Center. If you can't do that, try working out at home ( that's what I do). And most importantly, don't get frustrated! everything takes time. ☺

    • @pugluver1155
      @pugluver1155 8 років тому +4

      Noor Fares I'm in the same boat. 14 never taken a class in my life since last summer. Some things I've learned so far are don't get too down on yourself. Practice at home when you can. Also watch a lot of videos on UA-cam related to dance. There's great tips on here. Most importantly have fun and try not compare yourself to others. Do what you can do and don't worry about what others think. Stretch and work out a lot.

    • @ellie5636
      @ellie5636 8 років тому

      I would suggest working out to strengthen your core, and always mix it up so your body doesn't get used to it, i.e. cardio - but the best thing to do is to do class as many times a week as you can, and do your homework outside of class - ask your teacher for specific tips :)

      A Royale is like a changement but you beat front before changing. So beat front and land behind, where a changement its focus is more on the change than the beat. Does that make sense?

      Misty Copeland didn't start until she was 13! I don't intend to ever be professional, but I didn't start ballet until I was 19 and I love it. I hope I can take classes for as long as I'm physically able to do ballet.

    I've called a entrechat quatre a beat before (I'm RAD) but that may not have been the real temanoligy.

    Hey Katie! I´m 15, and from Brazil, which means that even though I try really hard, I can´t get that routine with ballet, there are a few great schools, but none near me (big country too lol), well, I´ll try auditioning by video and all that but I can´t loose weight. I don´t look fat, but I´m not thin enough to achieve my goals, in schools, auditions and perfomances... I´m in your facebook group, and my family and I have always been eating healthy... Can you help me, I feel I´m running out of time....

    Your legs are so skinny! What do you suggest for lengthening out the calves? Thank you.

    Oh my teacher taught us the entrechat quatre was royale (idk if that’s the correct spelling)
