After years of not dancing consistently, the limited turnout I had seems completely lost. While in class now I feel like I fight and really force to maintain any turnout. Can you suggest any daily exercises that can make the most impact on my turnout? Great, awesome quick tips by the way! Thank you!
Kristin Becks Do exercises for middle splits and hip flexibility, this will help your turnout. And I also just stand in fifth position a lot 😊 but my turnout isn’t perfect as well
I actually have a condition where I was born with my hips turned in, so I don’t have good turnout or a good range of motion in my hips. Maybe try looking into physical therapy. If your hip hurts, I would also look into hip displasia
The developpé one changed my entire life... Katie's videos have helped me so much in such a short amount of time, I have improved A LOT. You're my new best friend, thank you so much for this channel!
I really love how straight-to-the-pointe (ha) your videos are. It's a lot easier to remember your tips in class with the short format! You're doing an awesome job!
Wow, I wish I learned about these things sooner. My teacher is the loveliest human being ever, but she never taught us what a difference your attitude and thoughts can make in your technique. I'll definitely try to use these in class tomorrow!
Use the back of your legs. If you start using only the top muscles your gonna end up looking like a body builder. That’s why squats arnt a good idea and neither are turned in leg lifts. When doing a position such as first try to make the back of your legs touch. Those are the muscles you want to be using.
The muscle you wanna use is the hamstring, not the quad. If you focus on that you’ll turn out from your glutes, not your knees, and it’ll be easier for you to lift without pinching your psoas
Fantastic tips - balance, turns, arabesque - it's all stuff I seem to be forgetting when I'm tired or thinking about the combination, and it always works exactly the way you explain it.
These tips are so helpfull! :) I just recently started ballet again and falling deeper in love every day ;) Greetings from the other side of the ocean!
Counterbalance Placement: grow one more inch of space inbetween ribs und hips: enlongate your abdomen Turn: bring shoulder back and arm back (don’t swing your arm though) develope; Focus on standing/ supporting not on lifting leg (distraction) Arabesque: (opposite shoulder to toe) jumps: front food get out as soon as possible, think go up (saut de chat)/ out (grand jete)
can you help with frappes? the different ways to do them and how to increase speed without compromising placement? that would help me and my technique lots!!
I've been waiting for a video like this for so long from many different dancer youtubers. that one with when doing a pirrouette think of bringing the right arm back just saved my life.
That 1-inch longer waist tip is GOLD- everything that needs the work just falls into place. I think I’ll start telling that to my fencing students to fix posture!
Great tips! Especially for pirouettes. Usually I only do singles or kinda bad doubles but I was doing solid triples, thanks to your tips! Keep up the great work! 💖💖
The tip where you put all your weight onto your supporting leg really helped because before I couldn’t keep my leg up and it would just drop a second after
I just started doing some ballet last october. I'm a 17 year old guy and I love it. I take a bunch of dance classes at my studio but they only have ballet twice a week and thats the one I really want to get good at. I do theatre so being a professional is my goal
I woke up and saw this video, and since I’ve always had an issue gripping my thighs I decided to try the develope hack, and it was EFFORTLESS! These tips are amazing and ao helpful! Keep doing what you do :)
A really helpful video! I injured my foot in my last ballet class and wont be able to dance for at least a week, but I'll rewatch your videos to feel a bit better :)
Hi Katie! I love your videos, and was wondering if you are taking suggestions. I would love to see an updated "how I sew/break in my pointe shoes" and an updated "what's in my dance bag" video. Thank you so much!
How do you get the back leg up consistently in a grand jete? Thanks for the wonderful videos, Katie. Congrats on your marriage! I have a friend who has been a shut-in lately and your workout/barre videos have been a godsend for her! Thanks!
So helpful! My teacher told the same thing to us in class, but usually I am too busy arguing with myself inside my head to really pay attention. It is sooo much better to think it through when relaxing and thinking back to it. Thank you a million time!
The Developpé one helped me so much!!!!! before i watched this video my leg was basically only 5 centimetres off the ground and now i can lift my leg up over my shoulder while keeping my hips square!!!!! thank you so much!!!!
All of your videos help me so much (I can't express how much)! I've been training at home, ever since I quit ballet classes. I am able to learn so much. Much love
Thank you for this Kathryn! I literally only started ballet last month and I used your adding one inch to the torso hack in class and my teacher kept saying how wonderful my posture was, I'm having trouble with footwork and combinations but it's probably just because it's new and I have zero dance experience! Thank you from a new subscriber 😉
These are so amazing and helpful! Another tip my teacher told me for pirouettes: in your preparation, put more of your weight in your front foot; it will prevent you from falling backwards. Also, can you do a video on turnout/ how to improve it? I have quite the in-turned hips and any knowledge on how to improve that would be amazing!
This helped me so much!! I've watched so many of your videos and have been writing down good corrections in a notebook and I've been so thankful you make these. I've improved already❤❤
This helped so much, I am only 11 and all my teachers are already noticing my improvement!!! Thank you so much!!!! You just earned yourself a new subscriber!!
Clara Friis Heyy, I had the same thing. I started focusing on strengthening my "turn out muscles" (Kathryn has a video covering that I think) When those muscles are strong, your position stays in place and you don't get pulled to the opposite direction/loose your balace. At least for me it was that.
Thank you so much, one of my problems is staying on the balls of my feet during barre, also is there a trick to doing pirouettes at the barre? I can do singles in the centre pretty well but the barre seems to throw me off and rarely stay on releve and kinda fall into the barre instead of catching it with my hand.
this was a huge help. Thank you very much because my teachers in class kept giving me some of these corrections and i didn't know what i was doing wrong, now after watching this i already see improvements so i can't wait for class tomorrow!!
@@juliahnareid1716 You aren't completly wrong, but it depends what kind of jump you are doing. You really shouldn't use your arms, you should use more your core and plie. Have a great day luv!
Could you do a video on exercises to strengthen specific muscles needed for ballet and good technique? I came into ballet very late with sub par training so I need lots of help with the technique and strength I am lacking.
my pointe teacher always tells us we can do everything in ballet. its all in your brain. when you do a left leg and 'cant do it' think of something else. THIS HELPS SOOOOOOOOOO MUCH
I would love videos where you bring others dancers/teachers of different styles (Balanchine, vaganova, cecchetti, etc) and discuss differences. It could be a whole series! Method Mondays/Technique Tuesdays etc.
this helps so much! i have an audition coming up for an arts high school that would give me 4 more years of formal training during school, along with my studio time, and i hope these can help me get accepted!
I will try these tips in class tomorrow night! Going to watch your pirouette video now Kathryn because I keep getting dizzy and falling over when I try 😂😂
thank you Katie, these were absolutely helpful to me. Can you please gibe me some tips how to improve those jumps when I have to jump from just one leg? Have a great day, love you! 😘
the tip about “adding an inch” to your ribs literally changed my life forever
I need all the help I can get 😅
o l i v i a l l i s o n sameeeee
Aww well I hope this gives you more confidence! I am sure you are doing great!
o l i v i a l l i s o n Me too, and no, I'm not doing great at all.😂
Same I’m trying to get better
Samee lol I’m so late too, I wanna be just like misty Coleman lol

question: people always say to use the inner thigh for developpés...what does that mean?
o l i v i a l l i s o n just push your inner thigh out for good turnout
denise no no its not that
Use the back of your legs. If you start using only the top muscles your gonna end up looking like a body builder. That’s why squats arnt a good idea and neither are turned in leg lifts. When doing a position such as first try to make the back of your legs touch. Those are the muscles you want to be using.
It means don’t grip the top of your thigh, like imagine lifting from the bottom.
The muscle you wanna use is the hamstring, not the quad. If you focus on that you’ll turn out from your glutes, not your knees, and it’ll be easier for you to lift without pinching your psoas
Can you do a video on beating and how to get those quick beats in your jumps?
Ella Mottola yes I need that I've been having trouble with that has well
Inner thighs!
Just so you know, the official word is Battú. Most studios say beat tho lol
Omg fr- being Russian trained, it always makes me laugh
Ella Mottola 2 really big tips for beats are 1- engage your turnout and 2- use a deeper plié
I just got tingles in my chest from how excited i am to try these hacks in class...😮

That developpe trick about supporting hip totally worked just now when I got up from my chair and tried it! Thanks for all these tips!
The tip where you put all your weight onto your supporting leg really helped because before I couldn’t keep my leg up and it would just drop a second after

This is going to help so much- especially with the leaps! I am naturally flexible, but have a lot of trouble with big jumps. Thank you so much!
I woke up and saw this video, and since I’ve always had an issue gripping my thighs I decided to try the develope hack, and it was EFFORTLESS! These tips are amazing and ao helpful! Keep doing what you do :)

Thanks Katie! You talk about hips a lot in your technique videos, what are some exercises to build hip strength?
This helped me so much. The adding an inch on to your ribs most. Thank you so much!

This is so great as I'm doing my ballet exam next week and I don't have much more time to fix much more.
Oh my gosh...the 1 in waist thing helps so much
This helped me so much!! I've watched so many of your videos and have been writing down good corrections in a notebook and I've been so thankful you make these. I've improved already❤❤
The pirouette one saved my life thank you so much
The developé one helped me so much!!!!! It made me more stable in my standing leg and improved my height
This helped so much, I am only 11 and all my teachers are already noticing my improvement!!! Thank you so much!!!! You just earned yourself a new subscriber!!
I tried these tips at ballet tonight (especially the adding an inch one) and it really helped!
Thanks Kathryn those tips really help just doing them at home with your video. Now I will try them in class!
Thank you so much. I've been struggling a lot with grand jetes!
In my opinion, ballet is one of the hardest styles of dance because there’s a lot of you have to think about in just one step
OMG!!! I realy love this video 😍😍😍 i know i'll improve my dance with your help. Thank you very much for this job, you're amazing!!!!!
Hey Katie amazing video as always

Me too! It feels like if I try to turn out the standing leg my working leg immediately turns in :/
pure gold for a ballet dancer thanks again

I can do singles in the centre pretty well but the barre seems to throw me off and rarely stay on releve and kinda fall into the barre instead of catching it with my hand.
I'm going to try the developpé tip tomorrow in class. I've been trying to figure out an improvement and this makes so much sense. Thank you!
So helpful! Thanks. My daughter and I love your videos
this was a huge help. Thank you very much because my teachers in class kept giving me some of these corrections and i didn't know what i was doing wrong, now after watching this i already see improvements so i can't wait for class tomorrow!!

I'm always so excited when i get a notifacation of your new video! I love your channel and it has helped me so much!
Thank you so much!!!!!👍👍 This helped a whole lot totally gonna use this at ballet
I need help with my jumps. I'm having a hard time with getting high in the air.
TheDancingUnicorn :3 keep your arms in third as you prep then in the air throw them up like you do in a si sone.
TheDancingUnicorm :3 really make sure that you are doing a deep plie, I know it sounds cliche but it is really so important and helpful.
@@juliahnareid1716 You aren't completly wrong, but it depends what kind of jump you are doing. You really shouldn't use your arms, you should use more your core and plie. Have a great day luv!
the first tip literally helped so much
Your tips are generally amazing!!
