It has been over a year since the HCU. If they haven't fixed their search engine by now, they're not going to. The only thing that might make them change course is if they lose money because the general public starts using alternative search engines.

Great interview. It’s clear we are still in a bad place and there is no fix insight.
Google made some big mistakes and simply dug themselves deeper and deeper into a hole that they cannot get out.

It’s kinda warming seeing another website owners talking about these, since 2010 been around on the business and man, it’s kinda lonely sometimes.
Not the greatest moment but good to see others keep the flame alive into other traffic sources.
We’ll see, keep it up the great work. The Helpful Content lol…

The purpose of this summit was just to pull the wool over publisher's eyes. Do you really think that Google doesn't know how to fix things?! Then how they make Reddit appear among the first results for each search query? Do you really think that they are not capable to revert the state of the algorithm prior the HCU? The harsh truth is that they don't care. A confirmation of that is the attitude of Nayak. They are only focused on the DoJ. And the board cares only about the money and Google 's stock prices, not about the quality of the product. Nothing will change until their revenue starts dropping.

Yes, I really do believe that Google doesn't know how to fix things. If you study algorithms, machine learnings, and the fact that AI writes 25% of their code...the human engineers don't fully know how to quickly correct things. They can try over time, but its certainly not a quick fix. Google is very complex.

@@NichePursuitsPodcast Besides they can't even create a better analytics or gsc platform. What worked for them are quickly going down. So many bugs even in simple things like that.

@@NichePursuitsPodcast I think it's the correct answer. They didn't know how to revert the algorithms. From my experience, content from a new domain can rank faster than an old one.

Great overview of the event Jake and certainly matched up with our experience. I also hope things will get better but like you I also need to plan as it it won't. Thanks Jared for helping to share this with more people.

Hey Jared, could I get you to turn the top (pointy end) of the mic to face your mouth a bit more? I doesn’t have to be in front of your mouth, off-axis is perfectly good, but having it pointed towards you would pick up so much more richness. It’s currently pointed at the corner of your ceiling. VO artist here.

Thank You Jake and Jared - very "helpful" - hate that word now LOL. I really feel like there are big challenges at Google from a number of angles but in terms of quality search results I feel like if they want to remain relevant they need to get it together really quickly, because a few of us are hanging on but we are finding alternatives.

This was a pr stunt. Because they knew you’d talk about it

I totally disagree. And several people that were there also came away saying they do not feel it was a PR stunt. Usually a PR stunt is made to make the company look good. This doesn't make Google look good (IMO).

I'm at the point of just starting fresh on a new domain. Doesn't matter much at this point other than losing all of the quality backlinks I've built up over the years.

Hope Danny can apologize to my executive editor who used to make $100k plus, one of my assistant editors (I have one left), and 1/2 my writers and other staff that I let go. These weren’t “SEO writers” either. All with degrees and certifications relevant to the topic. Took me years to build this team.

No one has the answer.. so it's best for them to be honest instead of giving you actionable advice that would do nothing
