@@jamatix8 Basically WB Montreal was originally going to make a Suicide Squad game that was a direct sequel to Arkham Origins, while Rocksteady was going to do Superman... and then both were cancelled. Eventually Rocksteady would go onto to their own Suicide Squad game (which allegedly is the reason why the Beyond Arkham Knight sequel was scrapped), while WB Montreal was doing their own Superman game (which might've also been cancelled.)

Wait until the game comes out because the battle pass or whatever it's called is supposedly only for different clothing and colors.
There is only one silver lining to this. The more live service BS fail, the less will AAA publishers be inclined to make so many of them. We see failing these half baked live service craps almost monthly. At some points they will realize they either have to Deliver something spectacular to succeed, or just dont make it on-line at all

@@weplayvrgames Yep, exactly. The carrot is far greater than the stick. As long as these games make some, if not most or all, of their dev costs back the potential rewards are so much greater than pretty much any single purchase game it's possible to make can generate that they'll continue to push ahead developing them. It's worth that gamble. Many that outright fail don't always lose as much money as people imagine.
They've been failing since millennia, and they still never learned. I've a feeling the revenues are "good enough" to keep going. It has to be an absolute disaster in order for them to stop.
After ANTHEM, EA Games is kinda having a redemption arc (Jedi, Dead Space, Wild Hearts etc) with only a few duds.
Seems like every developer has a turning point where the old school guys who make great games move on and some new big shot steps in with money in mind and they have their inevitable demise. I have a feeling this is rocksteadys turning point
I think the veterans are who left have skin in the game for being in the biz for so long it's not trickling down to the future of the company

I was so excited when I heard the story concept but then lost all interest when I found out what kind of game it was going to be.
WB saw how well spiderman 2018 did and the hype for spiderman 2 and thought “no one wants a single player narrative experience, they want live service” 🤦♂️

when it was announced, i imagined harley would be fighting with her bat, shark with maybe daggers or just his claws, boomerang with his well ya know, and Deadshot being the ONLY one using an arsenal of guns. I sincerely thought with the combat flow of rocksteady games, that I was going to have a hard time picking a character to main. Can not imagine my disappointment when the gameplay finally dropped. All the video game tropes in one game, and not a soul to be found.
I mean counter point to that hope. Why would you ever play anybody else but the person with the gun? This was one of the problems with Gothem Knights. The only character people found tolerable to play as was red hood because he had guns.
The only way this concept would have worked was if there were specifically designed campaign sections requiring certain characters. Like how you had to be Catwoman in Arkham Knight for some sections of the game. Rocksteady might have even had a build of the game like you wanted at some point and found it just wasn't fun to play as Harley Quinn if all she had was a bat. So they gave all the characters access to range weapons to allow that style of gameplay if people wanted it.
@@pacmonster066 i have no idea what you're talking about with more than 400hrs in gotham knights, and I played co op the whole time. Few redhoods, lots of batgirls. Rocksteady made 3 batman games not using guns besides playing as joker or deadshot in arcade but that was it. So I really have no clue where you're getting this information about players wanting guns in a rocksteady game or redhood being the only tolerable one. You even brought up the catwoman point, not only is that what everyone thought it would be like, but what most people wanted. No one would be clowning as hard as they are on this game if it wasn't made by rocksteady, because this is not the combat we were expecting nor want.
@@pacmonster066 You wouldn't give her just a bat, you'd give her a few gadgets from the comics and shows as well of course, but people loved playing as all the side characters in the challenge rooms in the arkham games, and it wasn't all about guns so maybe speak for yourself on that topic. I just gooogled least played heroes in gotham knights and found forums that picked Redhood as their least favorite actually, and each forum lists batgirl as the favorite. She had no guns. And gotham knights wasnt even made by rocksteady so its weird to see them do better rocksteady combat than rocksteady themselves.

And I was giving a reason why Rocksteady gave each character range options in the game they made. Yes, if they made an entirely different game it could be different but that's not the game we have.
And you're not understanding the point I made whatsoever. I'm not saying the previous Arkham games were bad because you didn't have a gun. I'm saying if the game is an open sandbox and you have a choice of multiple characters to play as in that world. Why would you choose to play a character with limited range and reduced lethality. Especially in a game involving grinding. That's the kind of game they're making. So if they gave Captain Boomerang his Boomerang only. Harley a bat. And King Shark his claws as their only means of attack in the world they put together, their internal playtests may have found everybody kept picking Deadshot as the most efficient person to play as. As more people tend to min-max these games than role play.

Because microtransactions are basically free money, they sell the game to you which makes back their investment in developing the game (and then some) and then sell you 3d assets that can be made in 2 days or maybe less considering the size of their team and profit from the same asset endlessly having over 9999% profit margins.

Are most of these items worth the price? Maybe to you and I no, and in many cases these cosmetics are fairly overpriced.. But don't act as though these devs push a button and generate an asset in a few hours lol

Once they finally got all their hot fixes out, Avengers really wasn’t a bad game at all, just lacked content to keep players engaged. Rocksteady has a reputation for strong launches and consistent content. Not saying that couldn’t change, but i have faith in them for now

Let's talk about how King Shark has a gun. King Shark... and how it's not just going to be some lame Fortnite shooter, according to the developers. When someone like King Shark, who'd have way more interesting and fun attacks... is running around with the same friggin gun everyone else has. It's like Mario Kart. All the classic characters who have all their signature moves, attacks, and abilities... are all just in the game riding the same kart as everyone else. But Mario Kart is fun, though. LOL
And in Mario Kart case, you have a whole ton of other Mario games (most of them being platform locked, thanks, Nintendo, you are awful), where all of this is given to you.
In this case... well... you know.
You don't remember all those times King Shark and Capt. Boomerang had jet packs and huge laser guns?
What totally cracks me up with this is that awkward shoe-horning in with all the characters having to do the same things, like traverse the map mega quickly. So they all have these different hilariously bad ways to do this. Things that the comics and films haven't needed to create (because it's b*ll*cks)
However crappy it sounds, this game WILL fail, and we actually need it to.
Just so _hopefully_ live service fad trash will be something execs start avoiding and pushing onto studios.
Let's have very different characters on paper, and then let us make sure they play as similarly as possible.
Even fortnight-like games are more honest than this, they are just selling you skins for the same character.
Nowadays they are falling harder than ever, same thing with shitty disney marvel movies, we might be onto a curve of good games and movies soon, so lets all come together and not buy all these live service bs games

I really wish we could have gotten a suicide squad game in the form of Arkham gameplay with some characters having shooting mechanics and having a robust variety of enemies that way it feels great to fight them with say king shark and Deadshot if that makes any since
Making Arkane and Rocksteady waste their time on live service is a crime. Created some of the best immersive sim/single player games from the last generation.
But, MONEY ?......
The sad part about such stories is that once those games release and they fail, the people who end up paying the price for such failures are rarely the people who took those decisions and forced the developers to produce those soulless cash-milking excuses for games. They will most probably announce they have to lay off 30% of the workforce or something like that a few months after the game releases and the guys who forced down this joke down everyone throats will still see their bank accounts inflate and either move on to the next studio or stay and continue ruining a studio who once made good games.
This guy said 'defining' like 12 times in 30 seconds when the word he's reading is 'defying'. This game will be DOA.
The person who made the last call that suicide squad should be a live service battle pass cashgrab during development at rocksteady, they should be in jail.

The suits never learn, they also don't have any understanding of ethics or common sense. All they know is how to get rich from screwing over others and as long as their pockets are overflowing, they are happy... They don't need to be smart to be able to do that.

It’s like asking Christopher Nolan to make a reality tv show. Not only would that be a waste of his talent, but he would also have absolutely no idea how to do it well.
*_Spider-man 2_* just proved, as it has been already proven a million times before, that games are better off without live services or mtx tied into them.
That game is doing numbers and setting an example, and I wish I could say *"this'll teach studios a lesson, they'll follow along and redeem themselves."* , but somehow THEY WILL NEVER LEARN!
And you know whats the worst part, i recently learned that Rocksteady wanted to make a superman game but was turned down by Warner bros. Heck you can see it here as the games enemy is braniac and it's taken place in metropolis.

They had their own insomniac, until they denied them to make a single player superman game, then all the great devs who made the arkham series left the studio due to not being able to make a singplayer game. The team making this game are a different studio
Its so sad man. Insomniac was born in the public Eye when Rocksteady had their last stand.
I'm also pretty sad for WB Montreal. Gotham Knights could have been groundbreaking but turned out as just okay.
Radical Entertainment over at Activision is probably the only Potential Rival left for Insomniac.
@rewpertcone8243 sony benefits from spiderman more than just the sales of the game, it's an ad for playstation and that's what truly matters, they have an incentive to make a good game so they can get people to buy the console, but WB doesn't have a console, their incentives are different, if sony was in WB place i'm sure they'll try to add microtransactions to spiderman, and here's an eye opener, sony, which is probably the company with the biggest incentive to make good games wants and is trying to make live service games
they already had? 8 years ago a critically acclaimed trilogy (arkham series) which paved the way for spider-man games

What made the Arkham series great was that it made you feel like Batman. None of these characters feel even slightly like their comic counterpart.
I think I would me more interested in Hyenas that the Total War creators recently scraped, and nobody wanted that either.
The inevitable end of Rocksteady will come when this game performs poorly, and the execs think "this studio can't perform, shut them down" without a single thought as to why nobody likes SSKtJL or what people expect from Rocksteady. It'd be like if McDonalds was suddenly expected to make $40 kobe beef/wagyu/fois gras steak, nobody buys it, then McD's is shut down by higher-ups who think McD's can't make what people want anymore.
To be fair, zipping around the map and rampaging through enemies as these characters does look a LOT more fun than Gotham Knights ever did

This is all the more sad after playing Spider-Man 2 and imagining how awesome a new DC Superhero game from Rocksteady could be. I don't understand this Warner's obsession with the Suicide Squad when they have a ton of heroes and stories that they can adapt. It's like they're nothing if they don't use Joker or some other Batman Villain.
I'm a veteran gamer of 4 decades plus and the company cycle of change is the only consistent thing to rely on.
I started on the likes of the ZX Spectrum and Elite or Dungeon Master on the Atari ST when i was at university.
I played solo fps and RPG games and i play one live service game but at heart I'm a solo gamer.
Seeing studios with high repute dump turds in the hands of gamers be it Arkane, Bioware or now likely Rocksteady seems inevitable.
The hope is they recover or get the chance to recover rather than get destroyed.
They should ve kept the typical system where each character does specific thing in SINGLEPLAYER. Like you need Range? Use Deadshot, then you switch in RealTime to Harley for Melee Combat ect.

the reason why arkham knight still looks god damn amazing is because not only is the fidelity of a high quality but the art style is timeless, the fidelity may age but because of the art style it takes away from the aging fidelity, it will always looks this good, it will remain this striking 10 years from now

Suicide Squad: Killed Rocksteady
If anything Rocksteady should have handled Gotham Knights to make it a spin off continuation of the Arkham Knight story. Or simply just let them make the Superman game. WB should have been the ones to handle Suicide Squad

As the great Ben Stiller once said in a small movie called Tropic Thunder; “You never go full Live-Service.” And it still rings true to this very day
The fact that this is Kevin Conroy's last performance as batman makes it even more insulting.
🤔 What I noticed with the four playable characters, they seem much more like archetypes to me with just different models and skins, but they all largely play the same, like very little variation between the characters, but overall the core shooter mechanic is what’s at play here.
Everything feels very “the same” as every other looter shooter despite them using DC characters. With such little variation between the characters I feel gameplay is gonna get old very quickly, with what looks like repetitive mission types.
It’s Marvels Avengers all over again, yet this somehow seems even lamer and worse. At least Marvels Avengers had some decent ideas and tries to have some variety, but ultimately it was bogged down by very repetitive missions and a poor progression system.
People will likely play through the main story but once that’s done I doubt people will pick it up again, even with content updates if it’s not compelling enough I don’t think anyone will stick around. I suspect within 1-2 years it’ll be shuddered like Marvels Avengers.
WBs first mistake was thinking thst Suicide Squad could carry a title like this. Even worse it looks like every character moves and fights basically the same.
Arkham is one of my all time favorite games. Such a bummer this is what they have been working on.
"If you have to answer questions as to what kind of game this is, there's been a huge failure in marketing." I would almost 100% agree with this, but I have to say with Death Stranding, I had absolutely no idea what that was gonna be pre-launch, and even an hour or 2 into the game I still didn't know. There's no easy elevator pitch for a game like that. I took a chance on Kojima and wound up absolutely loving that game. Some games can be hard to describe when they're somewhat innovative, but for a game like this I think it looks pretty standard and should have been communicated better.
I swear I hope ROCKSTEADY sees what insomnia has done with spiderman 2. Insomnia actually TOOK Rocksteadys great combat system and now made it their own. Rocksteady really just needs to go back and PERFECT a system that they created................I waited 9 years for a new Rocksteady game. I still can't believe how bad Gotham Knights was.........ITS INSANE!!!!!

But the great thing here now is, US, WE now have a huge voice. If these companies try to make things their way, they will absolutely fail now. Just like marvel is failing....we play a huge roll now

A game studio is just a name at this point. No point being like “these people are my favorite devs” because those devs always leave especially after such a long time without making games. So Rocksteady isn’t the Rocksteady that was ten years ago.

People need to wake up, studios that used to put out amazing work are long dead in all but name, Arkane is another example, the talent has gone and the people that are there now are not in the same league.

It' releasing the same day as Persona 3 Reload, that was the final nail in it's coffin I'm actually looking forward to P3. I know where my money is going. I'd have considered it if they removed the always online requirement but it doesn't look like that happened.
My sole turn-off is the requirement of being online at all times. If the developers have taken the time to remove this feature, I will purchase the game on its release day. Perhaps even the deluxe edition. However I am scared to play always online on a game that only a few are interested in(i am interrested), I feel as though I would lose the game(when the game fails) and that we would have wasted our money.
Do you say this with every game seeing that it's 2023 and almost every game requires an online connection?

@@stickytiddies5473 Playing solo is not the issue. This game will have a solo option. The issue is that most games require an online connection to even play solo.
Development for this game has restarted multiple times. That's the only reason why it has taken 8 years.
I just don't know how they thought this was a good idea after seeing how people reacted about the batmobile shooting drones. Imagine if you fought the justice league as Batman in metropolis. A game where you have to come out of the woodwork and maybe even team up with Robin, nightwing, and catwoman to take down each member of the justice league. Batman on the grandest scale possible. Or they should've just gone with the batman beyond game. That looked very promising.
They really read the backlash for Marvel's The Avengers game and said, "we can go a shooter version of this"
Why is it physically impossible to get a good superhero game lol, I don't know if it even counts but D.C. Universe online was pretty fun for what it was, whereas the type of gameplay I'd want from such a game would be akin to Prototype or Web of Shadows, something that gives the player agency while putting them in a dynamic sandbox. Maybe throw in some RPG elements to let us choose our powers or even lack thereof... kind of just spitballing here but I'm mostly nostalgic for Prototype and City of Heroes.

Honestly I really dont understand why certain studios are still placed on a padestol, or people expect a proper comic book based game. For the simple reasons that the dev teams who created the hits of the past often arent working there anymore. It truly baffels me so many gamers forgot how many veteran devs were bullied out between 2009 & 2015 (when comics & gaming werent fully mainstream yet), and were replaced by the activist who pushed them out. And younger devs/creatives/managers etc from all those universities that were idealolgy reformed in the mid 2000's. Which is why there are working to many people in gaming who dont have the creative, technical, marketing, buisness etc skills to make good games. The exact same thing simultaneously happend to the comic industry, of which I also find it baffeling people still think they would sign of on a proper (super) hero game like the Arkham games.

WB has INSISTED on the SS being their Deadpool/GoTG equivalent, but it’s not. The first SS movie and Birds of Prey were so successful because of the cast (Margo Robbie specifically) and the fact that anything remotely superhero related PRINTED money no matter what back then. The second SS movie was WAAAY better in every regard, and it was only mildly successful. Why make a Suicide Squad kills the Justice League game…… when you can make…. a Justice League game. I think WB is exactly as dumb as, “the first Suicide Squad made more money the the JL movie, so the fans must like them more”. Unbelievable.
I was never interested in this game and the fact that it is a live service always online game just makes it even worse.
Just take every game as it comes. Don’t get developer blinkers on and don’t get caught up in hype before legitimate hands on accounts are available. This game is not even on my radar and I’ll only play it if it comes out and is really good, like it gets compared to Spider-Man 2.
This game should've have Batman teaming up with the Suicide Squad. Its like the developers didn't play of researched the Arkham Knight game. Batman was revealed to be Bruce thanks to Scarecrow. Homie blew up his mansion and went into hiding. This game should've have Batman come out of hiding once he got the news of the Justice League. Why have this game in the same universe and not include that universe Batman?

Exactly everyone wants to compare all the new super hero games to insomniac and they are good but like some parts of spiderman is repetitive and some could say fighting venoms monsters were hit the big gooey thing

Man.... this is just depressing. Rocksteady already had their cash cow in the arkham series. All they had to do was to expand the gameplay (like idk add some more detective elements, more interesting boss fights etc...). They could have even went the "Assasins creed route" and just release different types. Have a game focused on the more on the detective stuff. Like another game based on batman's origin or a game that takes place after knight where you play as damian trying to become batman. Have a game where you play as Tim or Dick in a more cartoony/self-aware story that's focuses a lot more on the combat aspect of the arkham games.
But alas we get this game. I'm just hoping it's atleast any good and that it doesn't bury rocksteady.
From the very first announcement of this game I was against it simply because there is no universe that exists in which I would ever want to play a game as the suicide squad. I’d be happy to beat them up as a justice leaguer but I have absolutely no interest in playing as any of them. At most, I’ll watch the cutscenes on UA-cam just to see how rocksteady portrays their version of the justice league.
The concept itself is really cool arkham universe game where you play as the suicide squad in a brainiac invasion metropolis where you have to kill the justice league.
I believe had this game actually built off the arkham gameplay and been single player narrative focused game that expands on the dual play mechanics from arkham knight allowing you to seamlessness switch between the squad in combat and them play more like arkham characters with free flow and predator gameplay with just the addition of guns as a new third element of the gameplay rather then it just being a third person shooter entirely this would of been received way better .
there shouldn’t be a battle pass in a single player game new skins should be rewards like spider-man games
The concept is generic asf.
The only way I could of seen them salvaging this with the delay is if they done the following:
1. Remove the battle pass and make all skins unlockables
2. Make sure the game isn’t a grind whatsoever and progression feels completely at a standard single player game pace
3.option to play offline
4. Solo/offline players can switch between the squad on the fly as there always present as bots regardless
5. Make certain weapon types exclusive to a certain squad member to make them feel as unique as possible from one another it shouldn’t just be traversal
I hope they’re doing tht during the delay but I for some reason doubt it

I completely forgot about this game probably due to the poor showcase of gameplay that I completely wrote it off as something I wouldn’t be interested in
My god i completely forgot about the "shoot big purple balls" segment of the trailer, it doesn't just look plain boring but also so unbelievably unimaginative, it's like they are trying to make the most aesthetically safe uninteresting thing possible, if we're gonna fight brainiac then give us some cool nanotech/biotech mechs to fight instead of just tanks and helicopters
On top of being a bad gaming format, no one cares about Suicide Squad. They made two movies that bombed.
Honestly these characters are DOA. It's like saying you're going to do a Bond villain spinoff and it's got Blofeld's henchmen but he's not in the story, and neither is Bond.
I was already out due to the «always online requirement» 😑 If I paid 70 or 100 dollars for a game that does not do well (and this one is not looking like it will do well), basically I have paid for a temporary game that cannot be played anymore when they take the servers offline 😑 I grew up in the video rental era, I am not paying that much for a rental game! 😂
