I still have hope for rocksteady in the future. I simply can't believe that the people that made the Arkham franchise fell this hard. They should make a batman beyond game next imo. They'll Knock it out the park if given the opportunity. Plus I got hope for the wonder woman game. Monolith is a solid developer.

Just a reminder that the 'singleplayer' story missions/episodes/whatever are always online, so they won't be playable anymore once WB shuts down the game, which will probably happen a few months after release... buyers beware...
Wait for it and maybe we get a slightly more complete game like the Avenger's. DLC went free and service shut down.

Not gonna happen. They higher ups already made up their minds that live service is the way to go. They're already planning more live service games.

For sure this will flop. I think the studios know it too, but we are seeing the fruits of decisions made years ago. I don't think they would green light this game today knowing the state of live services in the industry at the moment. I think what they'll do with this game is try to milk the whales as much as they can over the first 3 months, then call it a day.
I figured out what this looks like! The characters very clearly only have a single animation for the melee attack (Harley its the flip and swinging her bat, deadshot is using his wrist guns). This looks like Agents of Mayhem, that saints row spin off!

@kingpinavatar He means in terms of generic gameplay loops with multiple characters. But Gotham Knights is another good comparison.
@@Billy-bc8pk we literally don't know the gameplay loop yet. So how would you know? Sure we can be reductive and make overly simplfieid predictions but we can do that for every game. I'm all for being skeptical but we don't have to lie to do it.
The game should've just been single player with a mass effect type party system with character swapping and ability combos

This definitely isn’t the game we were hoping for but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t feel at least a bit better abt it after this showcase. As far as the “emptiness” of the world goes literally no one had that complaint with Arkham city/knight. Those open worlds got rid of literally every civilian but it didn’t matter because the gameplay kept our attention. Personally I think metropolis in this game feels more believable than Gotham did in the Arkham series. I actually get the impression that people could/did live in this metropolis. All in all, SSKTJL has its work cut out like a mf and it may already be dead. Phenomenal gameplay is the only thing that will save this title because public perception is already halfway down the drain.
Unless it's a single player game, they're largely fucked.
Well who knows I'll keep an open mind but I'll see if its worth it or not at the end of the day

My thing is if this is still the arkham verse, why didn't they have brainiac take over metropolis. Then have batman, the same one we played as in fhe other games. Come to metropolis and it would be batman vs the justice league. Would that not better??
Especially since in the comics Batman had files on top of files of how to defeat the Justice League if they were ever compromised. This already sounds more interesting in comparison.
Interesting you mention this. I have no idea what happens after the ending of Arkham Knight but my bet is Batman joined the justice league in between the five years after AK to SS:KTJL. He left Gotham making everyone think he died and left the city to the rest of the Bat family and decided to take the next step in his career as the e Bat… join the JL.

Yeah I agree it would have sweet to see Batman face the justice league. As he frees the members of the justice league you unlock that character, and can play as that justice league member.
Well, they got around Arkham Knight civilian NPCs with the evacuation, so that's a thing they like to do lol.
The Rocksteady that gave us the Arkham games is unfortunately gone and has been replaced with something else entirely

NGL my only interest on this game is Arkham Batman. I just wanna know what he's been up to since Knight and how the boss fight will go. Hoping it'll be a survival boss fight like with Vader in Fallen Order

Sad that Rocksteady wanted to make a Superman game and it was actively being developed at the time which explains why metropolis is the location. Then out-of-touch WB stepped in and told them to scrach out Superman and replace him with Suicide Squad and to be live service.
Didn't schrier (who I'm lead to believe is reputable) comment recently how there was never a superman game in production at rocksteady? I swear caboose made a video about this

Sefton Hill the main director of rocksteady who already left signed the contract with the devil (WB) and studio is no longer unique with soul. Now WB is in charge since they have more control.
This is downfall of rocksteady that we're seeing. Sefton should have known what he got into. Now all that it's left is memories of how great that studio would be if not WB executives who are in charge of every project rocksteady is making. That's why you will never see a Superman game from them ever.
Leadership of WB changed over the years. Maybe the guy they signed with allowed them that creative freedom (something he mentioned during an interview). Someone new came in during the live service era when fortnite was still new and he pushed the studios to make this live service crap and now Zaslav is continuing where the last guy left off.
I've said it before.... if you tell me I'm going to be playing as King Shark in a video game... Using a rifle is the last thing I'd think I'd want to be using as my method of attack. You're right.... all of them are just carbon copy attack styles. Guns. I would want to be melee if I was Harley, and jaws and muscles if I was King Shark. But instead.... it's just Fortnite with a Suicide Squad skin.
Which also kills the hype for any potential DLC characters they’ll add because their gameplay will probably still just boil down to “colorful rifles”.
Yep that's the biggest problem with this game, they are just using the suicide squad/justice league IP to generate interest in their game rather than actually create a suicide squad game where the characters feel unique. You could literally swap these characters with anyone and nothing would change.

I remember reading a year ago that the original team behind the Arkham games were let go from Rocksteady for some reason. Explains a lot if true
Also, if the servers go down the game basically becomes lost media, unless they somehow disable the always online part (which they won't), so anyone that wants to buy this game, just realize that your 70 dollar game is gone become paperweight when it dies like the Avengers.

So what is exactly is going to keep me playing forever? Do you never beat the justice league? Do you beat the game and then just forever fight hoards? Am I supposed to come back every 6 months to fight a new super hero? The entire idea of the game being live service makes no sense

Been tryna solve this equation for couple months now. Not getting anywhere on it 💀 like you said it imitates their movement and THEY STILL DECIDED NAHHH we kill the iconic characters and forget about them so we can use boring non powered characters cause I’m pretty sure they are lazy and don’t wanna innovate the experience of superhero games

I understand that the trickiness of making the game balanced between characters is to give them a commonality in gameplay, such as traversal speed and common combat features. It probably won't work if one works like a shooter, one works like Ninja Gaiden, and another like a tab targeting RPG, especially if it's a multiplayer game.
39:30 they probably just have the game switch between the 4 here as an "Introduction" to each character for the tutorial, until you get your actual outfits and ditch the Arkham skins then you're forced to swap outside of missions.
Aint no Batman building a weapon that any villain can just come and snatch and walk out it. He'd 100% add a password or finger scan and Harley would be automatically teleported to Arkham.

This has to be marketed towards 12 year Olds, that's the only people😊 this could possibly appeal to. The trailer made me even more not want to play it.
I don't get 'Story Driven' at all from this. Looks like a game for a kid or teenager to play to keep them occupied.

There isn't a ton of civilians in Suicide Squad stories, they're a secret government asset. Read a couple comics, it's in the films.
I don't see the lack of people as a valid complaint for this game, but I'm not expecting anyone here to be charitable at this rate.
If they copy guardians this game would be goated… I almost 100% sure it won’t be like anything like that and more closer to like a borderlands mixed with avengers style feel… combat and jokes included
It looks too much like the Avengers game: looter-shooter-brawler (the other was mainly a looter-brawler). Live game, empty world (it was due to IMA on the Avengers game, here is Brainiac). The art direction is very inconsistent... I think the main difference is that here is open empty spaces and Avengers were closed empty spaces mainly.
I don't know how well framing it as a "narrative game" when it's a live service will work out because Avengers tried that and it's so dead you literally can't buy the game anymore.
still looks like a mig tier 3rd person shooter with traversal mechanics when it should have been a 3rd person action game and i highly doubt that will change.
I don't wanna start a conspiracy theory but I feel like the whole petrified civilians thing is just how they transformed the game from being played out in levels like avengers into this open world structure where they just merge everything, but obviously they couldn't add NPCs so they threw that "lore" point in there.
Luke keeps talking about how the world is empty, but the world of the Division is also empty, did he critique that too?
Way back when it was rumored that Rocksteady was making a multiplayer game, my brother and I instantly started making theories of what it could be. I thought it was gonna be a dark, gritty ninja turtles game. Oh that would’ve been so much better. Who tf wanted suicide squad?? 😭
Always online - so you don't own the game, you rent it. For however long WB decides to support it.
I'm just gonna go play the games I bought 15 years ago.

i would've taken an open world, rpg, 3rd person shooter/looter suicide squad instead of this live service, linear level, 3rd person shooter suicide squad
This game looks horrific, its like they took a list of everything I hate about modern games and put it all in one package
I see potential in this game, but the empty world is just bad. They should've had a system where there are some civilians alive that you can defeat of course, but you can also save them if want some upgrades, that the woman from the radio can provide due to her trusting your group. This could be events all over the map and would help the game with secondary missions.
Got to say, I love the museum cutscenes. I care nothing about these characters but found myself very engaged with them after that.
The great thing about the Arkham games was that the world was filled with bad guys. Or just walking around and not even playing at all, per se. I've spent dozens (hundreds?) of hours just beating up people, not really playing the game. I think that's essential to the Batman world but Gotham Knights and possibly this one missed the boat. That's what brings me back.
I do have to say that as far as graphics go, they'd be the last things anyone's priority might be with 3-4 months until release. Those can easily be updated in the interim. Or not. We'll see. The fact that this game seems to have a lot of all of its gameplay during the daytime, these details or lack thereof will stand out more.
If I can play this game without buying anything else and if it has a decent first person campaign like Guardians of the Galaxy was which I enjoyed so much, I might be happy...when it's heavily discounted. Service game only is a deal breaker. But that's true for all of them.

The fact that they're having "segments" to explain their product says a lot already. Also Sefton Hill leaving speaks volumes. Going back to Batman... With Arkham Knight , (cant remember their marketing strategy ) but pretty sure the gameplay/ reputation spoke for itself.. I don't blame Rocksteady , I blame the "powers that be " at WB who think profits over product is the correct order ... Where as if they just allowed the real creators to create they would have BOTH a great product and make a shit ton of profit

Having no civilians is not only a cheap way of cutting work out, but to allow players to play as villains, BUT with no real choices or consequences. As we know, some of the characters will be happy to go on a killing spree for fun, and big companies don't want that on their protagonist, it's hard to sell.
This just feels like Fortnite with a DC skin.

This game has a lot of issues for me and I know it won’t be in the game but imagine when you get in a boss fight against the Justice League like Batman or Superman you play as them to fight the suicide squad I know it wouldn’t makes sense and difficult to do but that would be fun and innovative to me
It’s not likely I’m getting the game but I’m just imagining how this game could be better like what if at the end of the game the only way to defeat brainiac is that you have to free Superman and then you get to play as him to save metropolis and then they tease the Superman game. Again none of this will happen but it’s just my opinion on what could make the game better

The cutscenes are pretty solid, voice acting and lip syncing are good. except Harley Quinn her voice acting is a little cringe, like the actor is making her voice a bit too squeaky and high pitched. But either way it’s good, The gameplay is a whole different story lol

This is just not true. The Arkham games all released way before Fortnite was ever even a thing, and most in an age where ALL games were dark and gritty. Colorful and poppy does in no way mean bad. Sunset overdrive was awesome, HiFi Rush was awesome. What matters is the gameplay.

It must be really devastating for you to see suicide squad like this because multiple times in your Arkham critiques you mentioned how much you wanted to suicide squad game. But obviously not in the way they decided to make one.
The only redeeming quality of the showcase was the traversal

Boring ..tepid.. generic, and I don't give a toss about the characters , even Haley looks bland , how they managed that I have no idea , she was epic in the batman games
They gave these characters specific special abilities - only to make them all play in same generic way, a "shooter" out of all, f. people love 3rd person hero games but not a "shooter" Arkham Knights+Fortnite hybrid.
This does look a lot like the way Gotham Knights played but at least Gotham Knights had people in the streets of the city. I was really looking forward to suicide squad until I saw they were making it live service. UGH. So tired of live service.
