    My tips to save $ is to ask myself: Do I have "one"? Can I make "one"? Can it wait?

  • @Saturn57

    My tip is to live a simple life: simple home, simple wardorbe, simple skincare routine, simple makeup routine, simple cooking (no complex recipes w lots of ingredients. These are treats you make a few times a year). Declutter unnecessary relations that drain you. Focus on what's worth ur time, energy and $.

    I loved the Tightwad Gazette! Back in the day I used to buy the newsletters. Then Amy put out her books and I bought those also. It was so sad when she retired. I learned so much. Our house is paid off, we've never wanted for anything (except better health) and had the money for pets and their veterinary care.
    That's why I love listening to frugal, like-minded savers; it makes me feel good that others don't take advantage of our resources on Earth. Frugality is Wisdom. ❤

    Started shopping my pantry first to figure out meals and only buying minimal groceries has helped. I’ve been able to keep my food budget about 100$ a month lately since I had a full freezer and pantry. My husband is out of town for work 4-8 days a month so those days I don’t cook and just eat leftovers or make a sandwich.

    A permanent full time job might be better for saving money. You wouldn’t have so much free time to spend money and would probably make more including benefits. It sounds like these “income streams” are contract-type work that do not have any benefits like health insurance or 401k matches.

    • @JaneM-ig5ru
      @JaneM-ig5ru 16 днів тому +2

      That’s what I was thinking! I watched that video of the 9 incomes and thought, wouldn’t just one good, full time job be better than all of this? Easier to depend on, easier to keep track, just better all the way around! More money too, and isn’t that the point of this channel?

  • @Smooshes786
    @Smooshes786 17 днів тому +8

    My favourite tip was about income from a job or other business dealings- when you’re paid, you’re even, don’t invest any more emotion into it than that.
    Makes saying yes or no very simple. Makes the decision to make change easy too.

    I try to find recipes and make products from scratch instead of buying them. For example dry shampoo and eye makeup remover. I am also working on natural pet treatments and cures for common problems such as fleas and ear infections. Vets are so expensive. Saving a trip or two here and there really helps. I also keep working on ways to reduce grocery spending and I am exploring recipes for homemade cat food as I have several and their food is more expensive now too.

      If your pet has a yeast ear infection, you could dilute Monistat Creme with warm water, squirt it into the pets ear. Do for 7 days. It worked for my dog. After 7 days, I flushed ears for a few days.

      We just went to a cash only for any food… $250 a week has to cover all our groceries, pet food and any eating out. There’s 5 adults, 6 dogs, 1 cat and 7 chickens. 😊 We had been spending on average (over the last 6 months) $340 each week in those 4 categories and I dropped the hammer ! Lol
      Oh, that amount we’ve spent and will budget for also includes toiletries and cleaners.

    Grocery budget isnt a competition. It depends on what quality of food you want and whether you are on a special diet. My family consumes a lot of wild caught seafood which is pricey but worth it to us, also free range chickens and eggs. I dont mind spending so long as we get Value and dont waste.

    1) Pay me first. Add $ to savings before paying any bills or buying groceries. If I need it, it is there.
    2) car gas: I fill up at half a tank
    3) shop with grocery list. Don’t buy extra items
    4) batch cook. Freeze half and make my own freezer dinners. Yum!
    5) research for meat sales and buy meat only then, not at higher prices.

    One thing I've started doing when shopping is selecting items to put back... Before buying.
    💸 I'm self regulating my spending by asking 'Is this something I am personally going to use or am I buying for other people?' 🤔 I have a tendency of buying clearance, deals & extra stuff to give to non-immediate family members, etc. I am improving currently. 😁

    God bless your father, that generation had it correct, DON'T SPEND, my adage is don't spend money that you could be saving. on things YOU THINK you need, but don't. Good idea to pause and wait to see if your desire for that product is still there after a week, usually it isnt. I purchase frozen white/sweet potatoes, butternut squash that is cleaned and cubed, ready to prepare, no waste and no urgency to use it all up. Same with rice, if I purchase a large package it goes to waste, instead I use the boil in bag ones and get 2 to 3 servings for my dh. Just two people here, so I boil a pound of penne pasta, undercook it, (rinse under cold water, Italians turn away at this point:) let dry well and then place flat in a ziplock freezer bag, freeze it flat, when I need it I just break off a portion and heat in the sauce, saves time/effort. Also buy dh the Costco rotisserie chicken, break it down and freeze servings sizes for him, we eat very different, I'm a pescatarian and he eats everything:)

    Best tip for me is using only money already earned. It's easier said than done in today's society. I didn't grow up with credit being the norm, but then I thought maybe my family was strange and not society. Fell into that trap. You tend to make shrewd choices when you're working with your hard earned money.

      Am starting on making my own bread skills. A bit more challenging than I thought. Am trying to avoid the yeast breads. Tiny kitchen and not always a lot of patience. Might end up purchasing a breadmaker for the yeast bread which I had one gadget years ago. Do have lots of pantry space and part of this is my appliance garage which I do find recipes to save money, convenience. My first attempt was a sandwich bread. Used organic wheat bread. Yuck. The next attempt was white flour. Think my big oven needs recalibration judging by my oven thermometer. Tasted much better. Used to scoff at 'bleached white flour' ingredients or these sacks of flour. Until recently. Bleached flour helps make bread softer. Not sure if I want to try the sandwich bread recipe too soon. There is a two ingredient ice cream bread recipe I want to move on to next. Just on a quest to find a two or three ingredient bread recipe. Can easily do biscuits well from that famous yellow box. Soon. once I get larger food storage containers, will be making my own baking mix from scratch. Can do two ingredient skillet English muffins, but converted the recipe to bake in the toaster oven. Still a bit tricky to bake, but now I think I will splurge on the store shelves premade ones. Things I am learning in the bread department these past few months. Will not get money rich from my own breadmaking, but am currently at home person. Keeps one part of my budget expenses in check, keeps me on the healthier side of life and keeps me from being bored.
