What an amazing beautiful first track from this amazing album. I feel like I am at at a church to start the song then lead into the high desert after. It really does place you there musically, lyrically, and visually through the mind I feel. The entire album really does place you in the American Southwest desert. I think I can sense and feel your emotions as well watching your reaction. Your look during the reaction says it all. The whole album is a masterpiece from this song to the last. There is no filler. Bono, The Edge, Larry, and Adam are starting to peak here as a group. Again, Daniel Lanois and Brian Eno led them down a different path with the Unforgettable Fire and now The Joshua Tree to make this masterpiece. U2 were maturing and this sound exemplifies that. Can't wait to see your reactions for the rest of the album.
I absolutely love this album. On the one hand, they bring it all together: The lusher sound of the previus album and the rock of their early years. On the other hand, they still manage to sound like they are trying (not in a negative way) and searching and expanding. This album contains some top-shelf cuts and not a single filler. I'll be here for every single reaction. Keep up the great work!
First, Lucca is getting so big! when I hear U2, I feel their songs express truth. Love them. And as far as The Edge, I can only describe his playing as majestic. So glad you liked this, I thought you might!
And the band somehow comes fully together. Full growth. Maturation. Its like it all comes into focus. 4/5 albums in. Hitting the stratosphere. If you want to see a live performance... the one at Slane or Boston are goes to.
If you get a chance you need to watch the Slane castle version of All I want is you / where the streets have no name. Absolutely amazing. This is the best live song full stop
The PSB version was tongue in cheek but musically they did respect the U2 song, Chris Lowe pointed out how The Edge's guitar riff had a Hi-NrG sequencer feel to it, driving through the track and he mirrors this electronically in the PSB version
At last, The Joshua Tree. One thing about these reaction videos that some people don't fully understand is that while you're immersed in a song I've probably heard a thousand times, I might not ever just sat and immersed myself in said song. This song is one I've familiarized myself with completely but it still hits, still feels contemporary, and is a great opening to this album. I'm sure you'll enjoy the whole album but I look forward to those reactions.
Fun fact…..the intro is in 6/8 time signature, then transitions to 4/4 time for the main part of the song, and transitions back to 6/8 time for the outro. An amazing tune, a timeless masterpiece.
This is another truly great one. 😎 And I was lucky to come here and get a glimpse of Lucca. 😍 I had never heard of the PSB "remake", of course, and got curious, had to look for your reaction to that one... 🙄 I'm sorry, but I have to say it really sounds like crap. I couldn't believe they were happy with their "work" on that one, it just shows how someone can ruin a song. 😝 Unbelievable how they turned a great song into such a sloppy tasteless thing. I never liked PSB and never gave them much thought, but they really fell a great deal in my consideration with that appalling rendering. I guess this is more or less what Paul wished a-ha sounded like in the 90s. 😉 But I can't really see Morten singing like this - do you get what I am saying? It's not in his nature. I can't describe it, but I think I understand what Morten means when I listen to Bono singing like this. 🤷♀ It's a sort of "cool pose" that Morten couldn't pull off without feeling forced and "fake".
Pet shop boys cayó mucho en tu consideración?😮oh, q pena, dicen ellos que ahora no van a sacar su nuevo álbum porque los deprimiste😂. Podes decir q no es tu estilo psb pero jamás podrás asegurar que hacen basura.
I still don't understand why you didn't listen to this version before the PSB cover, (as both were due in their respective deep dives) if only to familiarise it , and then post that reaction then move on to the PSB cover. That way your experience would have mirrored the way we who knew both versions in that order.
Ha, well that would have meant putting PSB on hold for more than a month, and I likely would have heard grumblings about that. Plus I didn’t remember/realize the original was coming until I did the PSB cover. Alas
Well the U2 folks have had opinions on chronology, so I didn’t want to skip ahead with their journey when I realized the next PSB track was the cover. And at that point, I already had someone saying, “Have you forgot about PSB? It’s been two weeks!”
Indeed, I have headphones, and I do headphone-listens when I react to videos. But I'm an old-school guy, and this channel started with me just putting techno records on and talking about them, so this is just the way I've done audio reactions and many folks have insisted I don't change things (as apparently it's a refreshing difference from the way lots of other folks do reactions). Still, I do listen to all songs and tracks in headphones after doing these videos. Cheers.
All that said, I've begun doing music-video reactions recently, so eventually I can do the whole U2 catalog (or at least the songs with videos, and maybe even just the audio for songs on UA-cam) in that format. Cheers.

What a stupid concept for a song. How are postmen, Amazon, Fed Ex, etc expected to find an address in this scenario? Imagine all those people waiting for their mail, and it never comes. They didn't think this one through.
The greatest opening track of all time . Unbelievable song and live it’s out of this world 👌 greatest moment in live music 👌
this is the track that got me into this band (also as a teenager in the 90s!) specifically the intro and outro
History !!!!
A banger opener to a banger album
It's incredible. I can only imagine what fans of the band must have thought at the time.

This whole album is excellent.... My favorite track is Running to Stand Still
The Edge got the edge on guitar😎

The perfect traveling album- particularly in a car driving across country westward.

Nice, I can certainly hear that now with the original for context.
The Joshua Tree may not be my favorite album (the previous one is) but since it's my introduction to the band, it will always remain special to me.

Ha, yes, I did react to that one before this. I know it was sort of "backward" but I reached the PSB track in that journey before this.

@mattsnider2667 I can't see why, one song from each deep dive. We would have let it go

Lol, any show with Laurie and Fry has to be interesting. Blackadder has taught me as much.
