I love this song. I think it’s beautiful. I disagree with those who say it’s one of their weakest. It’s highly underrated. Enjoy your U2 journey. You will not be disappointed.
U2 can be listened to by each decade. 80's is so different than 90's, then the 2000's....and you'll discover a band willing to explore where their talents will take them.
Achtung Baby is my favorite all-time album. Every track is killer, U2 at their peak. This track didn’t appeal to me as much when I was young but now that I’m older it’s become one of my favorite U2 tracks. It makes me emotional.
Though I wasn't really a big fan back then when they were big in the 90s and 2000s. As I grew older and listened more to the famous ones, I got more acquainted to their sound and realized how I really liked their sonwriting skills and lyrics. Though they are not my favorite one, can't argue someone thinking they're the biggest one. Like so much their Joshua, Achtung and Leave Behind especially Achtung Baby. One day I'll venture into their oldest records and don't mind listening to the latest ones once I forget how they sound. To me they're like the Springsteen and Dylan of rock music when it comes to songwriting and great lyrics though I'm more of a hard rock kid a la Jovi, Leppard, GNR and Aerosmith.
"We don't really know U2..." OMG you guys are so much fun. I'm going to need more popcorn as you two rabbit hole U2. So much goodness to come. ThX Paul. Cheers 😎👍🍁
Achtung Baby is widely considered a masterpiece - one of the best albums ever recorded by Rolling Stone. Check out a hidden gem on this album - the song Ultraviolet.
Please listen to more U2. The same 4 guys have been in this band for 46 yrs. They have so many iconic songs but this album Achtung Baby is perfection. This album is made better cuz their prior iconic album Joshua Tree was COMPLETELY different. They are a very brave band.
Bono was in the song Do They Know It's Christmas which was mainly British artists and was the original song for African famine relief that later inspired the American song We Are The World. The whole band U2 played at Live Aid in London's Wembley Stadium. The concert was also at JFK Stadium in Philadelphia simultaneously. One artist, Phil Collins, played at both... first in London, then flew to the U.S.
This song is one twelfth of a modern day musical masterpiece. The artwork, the videos and the ZooTV tour that supported the album were unique. When I hear this particular song, I'm 21 again.
luv u2 and Auchtung Baby is my favourite album i think. mysterious ways, one, ultraviolet, are all bangers from this album but to be honest all the songs are great. its one of them albums that is just full of awesome songs. enjoy your new u2 journey
My first exposure to U2 was watching their "Sunday Bloody Sunday" video on MTV which was performed at the Red Rocks Amphitheater. I've been a fan ever since. That video is a must-see. It's haunting -- a cold rainy day, their breath billowing steam out of their mouths, and these giant torches lighting the amphitheater. Plus the theme of the song. Absolutely hooked me in and I've been a fan ever since.
U2 is a very underrated band especially the fact that the edges approach to guitar in a band setting is completely different and original. You had Queen style of guitar in bands then you had edges simple musically rhythmic approach but created an entire new sound that has prompted an effect called shimmer for guitar to be created and a lot of guitarists today use this now. Then if you look at Larry and Adam they are a really locked in rhythm section. The melodies are extremely beautiful and lyrics are great. Bono’s voice is amazing although it has changed with age it fits the way he sings. His heart and emotion is there even more than ever. This song in particular is like a real poem.
Love this song! Almost a deep cut! Would you believe....that in 1991, my roommates and I had our own "album party" for this album. In fact.... we had "christened" a brand new "CD boombox" with this album being the first!! We were blown away by the unique sounds... and in depth lyrics. Also... their follow up album: "Zoo Station" is creative and awesome!!! Lemon..like you said, is a gr8 tune.
Most perceptions about U2 are based on their popular big hits like With or Without You, a great song. But their edgy, innovative, atmospheric sound is where the real fruit is to taste. So glad you started with this song, a deeper one. Unforgettable Fire would be good to dig into after AB.
Conjures up so many memories. I was 24 years old in 1991 living in London. CD's were in their infancy (for me) but I remember countless late night car journeys with this album on repeat on the car stereo 😅
Bono, Sting and George Michael formed a little mini choir section for Do They Know it's Christmas. Try to do U2 live performances. This band often takes their material to another level live.
The recent live version of this song is INCREDIBLE. The rhythm section is more up front and Bono brings a lot more tension into the lyrics. Just a fabulous rendition that I think you would both enjoy. 😁
I bought this album in 1992 and only listened to the 3 radio hits (Even Better than The Real Thing, Mysterious Ways and One) without knowing I’d listen to the whole album. A week later, this song was the 5th one in and by the time I got to it, I knew this would be one of the best albums of all time. This particular song is very raw while being inadvertently refined. The sound is such a departure for them, but it caught lightning in a bottle. The emotion in the song is incredible; truly better than the sum of its parts.
You guys have always been so cool, and your ability to immediately grasp the brilliance of this song proves that. BTW: His daughter's name is Eve Hewson, and she was one of the stars of a great show called "Bad Sisters."
Love this song. What’s crazy is most fans feel like this is a “Meh” song in this album, not because of the song itself, but because of how good the rest of the album is. The throw away tracks would be album headliners for other bands
Love this song! Saw the tour and this song did not translate well live. Bad and Running to Stand Still live are incredible and my favorite U2 songs. Thank you both!!
This is about 10 years into U2 and my favourite track on the album. I followed U2 from the beginning - Boy (great debut 1980), October, War, The Unforgettable fire (great album), The Joshua Tree (big breakthough globally), Rattle & Hum, Achtung Baby which is as far as I have gone. It would be great to see you react to some of their early stuff - An Cat Dubh (good luck pronouncing that ;-)), Into the heart and out of control are my favourites from Boy. Cheers.
The other thing to keep in mind, Bono is a serious poet. U2’s lyrics are always worth paying attention to. Hooked up with a smoke show in college over Achtung Baby. Good times.
U2 is a very successfully commercial band. Sunday Bloody Sunday and Where the Street Have no Name are my Favorite! In one of their tour, they had a heart shaped stage, with people sitting/standing in the heart (as it was only the outline of the heart). This was my best friend's favorite band, I liked them, nothing more. But the concert ticket price were very high... Orphan Black is a SICK show.
every New Years Day as a tradition I play their video New Years Day, it starts my New Year off very good, then I bake my pork and sauerkraut, hopefully without a hangover.
Great album produced by Daniel Lanois who also produced Dylan's album Time Out Of Mind. These albums have amazing atmosphere. Dylan's album is amazing.
U2 are at their peak in the mid to late 80s but they have some great 90s stuff too. One of my absolute favourite bands, they will never not be cool to me, even though most people think they aren’t.
Producer Daniel Lanois should get his due credit for the sound of the Edge and U2 on The Unforgettable Fire, The Joshua Tree, and Achtung Baby, as well as Peter Gabriel's sound for So and Us. Lanois' solo efforts as a musician are stellar.
First time watching you guys. Love your reaction to this band. My favorite band of all time! They made several versions of this song. You should listen to the Kindergarten version of it. My favorite. Keep discovering them, you will fall in love. Maybe react to their live music from their ZooTV tour. ❤
If you want 80's U2, (and you already know with or without you, and still havent found what im looking for) heres a list: Pride Bad (live aid version) sunday bloody sunday Where the streets have no name running to stand still 90's U2 One Mysterious ways Stay The Fly
I didn't realise you knew so little of U2 guys! We shall have to rectify that. Their first album was released in 1980, so they became famous as an 80's band and my favourite U2 albums are War, The Unforgettable Fire and Tha Joshua Tree (albums #3, #4 and #5). Achtung Baby came out in 1991 I think, and was considered a career reboot, with a slightly more experimental sound, and there are plenty of other great tracks on it. Nick, your 'Lemon' album was the follow-up, Zooropa. I was just playing some U2 yesterday in the car and thinking how much Alexia would like Adam Clayton's bass, it's usually much more upfront than this track. They are still recording, did a Vegas residency recently I believe, though I have lost track of their music now. 84 - 91 was my favourite U2 period. I think you'll start hearing more U2 music soon!
Musically, U2 have been like 5 different bands at this point. This is version 2. Incidentally, the band never liked the studio versions of this song; the bridge was basically cut out of a different song and stitched into this one. Steve Lillywhite came back to mix this song because the rest of the band were sick of hearing it. Oh, and Lemon was from Zooropa, their best album. I guess this is a good time to pass this along: this song was part of the first encore the last time I saw them. Every woman in the place screamed at the top of their lungs the instant Bono sang the first line, and the crowd sang the chorus so loud we damn near drowned out the band.
Actually, I’d say this is version 3 for U2. Albums Boy thru War = #1 (raw, post-punk sound). The Unforgettable Fire thru Rattle & Hum = #2 (more atmospheric soundscapes & exploration of American rhythm-&-blues sounds). This song is from their version #3 period of Achtung Baby thru Pop albums (more experimental, industrial/techno sounds). Of course, they evolve again after that. But I’m basically agreeing with you. And, yes, U2 are stellar live. Best concert experience I’ve ever been to.
I second that. One of the most epic live performances ever. Literally launched U2 into global super-stardom. And what happened during that set (I don’t want to spoil it) was 100% unplanned & real. All I’ll say is a British newspaper tracked the girl down yrs later & she said she was suffocating unseen when the crowd surged & Bono saved her life.
Agree. Queen was great, but U2 was the biggest band to come out of Live Aid. It catapulted them to become the biggest band on the planet. It also almost got Bono kicked out of the band…
One of the great bands, even more so because they changed so much and explored other genres while still being true to themselves. There's a lot of good music in their catalog. I suggest you start at the beginning with the WAR album and watch them progress from there.
This entire album is fantastic! I like this song, but it's probably one of the weaker songs on the album, IMO, which means you two will love the other songs on the album. U2 has an extensive catalog, so this journey should be great fun. One of my favorite songs of theirs is an earlier tune that is harder than this one, called "Bullet the Blue Sky." Wow! ❤✌
I think the best approach to diving into their music is to stick with one album at a time and flesh them out. Even though they have distinct aspects or trademarks of their music that flows through each album like the drums, Bono's voice and the Edge's guitar, each album is an evolution in sound and story telling on a different level with no fear of experimenting and exploring their talents while challenging the listeners interpretation of lyrics. U2 are masters of encrypting spiritual messages within the imagery of their lyrics. Very few people know this or understand this. Bono knows what I know and I know what Bono knows. I have listened to his testimonies and interviews which confirm the veiled spiritual messages within his songs. I have decrypted the symbolism in many of his songs because we speak and understand the same language. U2 is awake and knows who we are, why we are here and gears his messages to those who are also awake and know the same thing. He is not the only artist who does this but he is the only one who does it for the right reason. Sorry this sounds so cryptic to the rest of you but it truly is a supernatural spiritual gift he has and shares it with the rest of us who who understand his imagery and messages. When most people are associating the messages to a standard earthly event or situation like a relationship, romance, break-up, war, struggle, personal journey, abuse, overcoming, positivity etc... there is a whole other meaning to many of his songs. Anyway, just a suggestion so everyone can follow the evolution of their music sound, more closely and organized. It makes the transition to their evolution in sound easier to follow rather than jumping back and forth in time like other channels do. It just gets messy that way in my opinion. Or at least play 4-5 songs from each album if that works better. Keep up the good work. Glad to see how others realize how timeless and unique their music is.
If U2 died in 2000ish, they would be viewed so differently than they are now. They were so good. Brilliant in the studio. Even better live. I would put their work from Boy(1980) through Pop(1997) up against any band not named the Beatles or Led Zeppelin. The most impressive part of it was over that 17 years, they completely changed their sound 3 times so thoroughly if someone knew nothing about them, most casual listeners wouldn’t even realize it’s the same band. In a weird way, with them its kinda the opposite dynamic which exists with artists/public figures like Kurt Cobain, Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin, JFK, RFK, James Dean, etc. Those people all tragically died at/near their peak. Frozen in time in everyone’s mind. Whilst they all were deserving of the contemporary praise they received, their legend tends to outgrow their reality(e.g. James Dean was only ever in 3 movies… yet people talk about him like he’s one of the greatest actors ever). Whereas with U2 we’ve witnessed the decline. We’ve witnessed them become the caricature of themselves. We’ve witnessed the divisive political/social issues. Therefore the negative current perception really drags down the reality of how great they actually were.
U2, should start your U2 Journey with the WAR album then go from there. I have been to see U2 7 -8 times Philly and NYC.........1st 2 albums are kinda ahh,,ok so WAR is the 3rd and my favorite.........fuckin enjoy dig deep.............
Great, great band! I'm ready Bono's book now, called "Surrender". Great book. Bono is amazing. Check out "The Fly" from this album. it's more rocking. By the way, at this time in their career, they were working with Brian Eno a lot so their sound reflects that. Also check out "Bullet the Blue Sky"! Killer.
Nice song! I really enjoy some U2 every so often. For some reason I never really connected with them! I do respect them and enjoy them in small doses! Really enjoyable video!
The song Lemon was on their next album. I think that was called Zooropa. I remember going to a concert at the MCG in either 1992 or 93 and they played that song that night. Oddly, I do not listen to this Achtung Baby album much now but it was a great album to listen to in the early 1990's. Looking back now, 1990's seems like a very uninteresting decade of music but the two albums I played most in that decade would have been Achtung Baby by U2 and Blood Sugar Sex Majik by Red Hot Chilli Peppers. They made what was an otherwise, forgettable music decade, have some sensational peaks with those two albums.
My favourite band! And Achtung Baby is my favourite album. You guys should listen to every song. Also, do finish watching Behind Her Eyes. It's worth it, but I can't say why, cause spoilers ;)
You want to know U2? Check out "All I Want Is You/Where The Streets Have No Name" live at Slane Castle. Then you will know U2 and understand. Thank me later.
Joshua Tree was a classic album and pretty much my introduction to U2 back in the late 80's. That and Auctung Baby are both solid front to finish. They have some other good albums too but IMO they are a little more hit and miss overall.
É legal ver reações de não super clássicos do U2, mas com uma canção menos conhecida como essa do sensacional Album Achtung Baby! Grande abraço! E CLARO, se puderem reagem a apresentação ao vivo no Live Aid em 1985 com a canção, Bad!
Good one but not their best to begin with U2. I'll recommend you: - Sunday bloody sunday - New year's day - 40 - A sort of homecoming - Pride - The unforgettable fire - Bad - Where the streets have no name - I still haven't found what I'm looking for - With of without you - Running to stand still - Bullet the blue sky - The fly - Zoo station - One - Ultra violet - Even better than the real thing - Zooropa - Lemon The last albums are less interesting
Ye need to listen to all u2 albums in 80 's and 90's The greatest 4 U2 Albums imo are in chronical order WAR, THE UNFORGETABLE FIRE THE JOSHUA TREE and ACHTUNG BABY 4 of the greayest albumns of Alĺtimne Plus watch U2 Live theyre the greatest live band of Aĺltimne Bonos the greatest Singer Argueably Ever and Amazing frontnan
I love this song. I think it’s beautiful. I disagree with those who say it’s one of their weakest. It’s highly underrated. Enjoy your U2 journey. You will not be disappointed.

U2 is the greatest band of the last 40 years and the biggest live band of the last 35 years
Though I wasn't really a big fan back then when they were big in the 90s and 2000s. As I grew older and listened more to the famous ones, I got more acquainted to their sound and realized how I really liked their sonwriting skills and lyrics.

Achtung Baby is a sonic masterpiece. I highly recommend reacting to the album in its entirety.
The Unforgettable Fire is my favorite but the sound production is much better on Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby.
I agree that U2 have been several different bands as their sound has changed. This album is the third version of U2.
luv u2 and Auchtung Baby is my favourite album i think. mysterious ways, one, ultraviolet, are all bangers from this album but to be honest all the songs are great. its one of them albums that is just full of awesome songs. enjoy your new u2 journey
One of the best albums ever recorded, from the world’s most inspiring rock bands. ❤
Since you like this song it's time for the whole Achtung Baby and Zooropa albums
I subscribed cause ur finally doing U2
My first exposure to U2 was watching their "Sunday Bloody Sunday" video on MTV which was performed at the Red Rocks Amphitheater. I've been a fan ever since. That video is a must-see. It's haunting -- a cold rainy day, their breath billowing steam out of their mouths, and these giant torches lighting the amphitheater. Plus the theme of the song. The word Atmosphiric comes to mind when I hear them
Lemon is from Zooropa
It’s about his mother and wearing a yellow dress
His last song was Iris’s song of experience
California is another good song
Conjures up so many memories. I was 24 years old in 1991 living in London. CD's were in their infancy (for me) but I remember countless late night car journeys with this album on repeat on the car stereo 😅
Always cry with this song..I can't 🤟😎🖤♨️⚡🇲🇽U2
I luv U2. They have a great sound.

Thanks so much for your kind words and support!! 💗
The album Achtung Baby is a masterpiece full of poems with music. My favorite song from the album is called 'The Acrobat'.
My favorite song of The Achtung Baby. Now I want to go hear it. The song “So cruel” is amazing you must listen to it.
Love this song. What’s crazy is most fans feel like this is a “Meh” song in this album, not because of the song itself, but because of how good the rest of the album is. The throw away tracks would be album headliners for other bands

My favorite song from my favorite U2 album. Double win!!
One of the greatest LP’s of the 90’s. Period. Attention attention! Now hear this! Achtung Baby!!!!
Check out Every Breaking Way live at I think some recent European award show. Even in his 50’s/60’s this vocal display is stunning.
EMA's I think yes. Excellent performance.
every New Years Day as a tradition I play their video New Years Day, it starts my New Year off very good, then I bake my pork and sauerkraut, hopefully without a hangover.

Achtung Baby was the first CD I ever bought, still have it in my possession!😊
I didn't realise you knew so little of U2 guys! We shall have to rectify that. Bono wasn’t at we are the workd. He sang on the British version band aid. Do they know ist Christmas.
U2 is one of the best bands ever in history!
U2 need to react to U2s song "Bad" at Live Aid video!

U2 from War to Achtung Baby out out a string of some of the best albums of any band. They were the most popular band on Earth.
80’s U2 is 🔥!
Next go for All I Want Is You/where the Streets Have No Name live from Slane Castle
And then Until The End of The World live from Sydney
Lemon is on Their 1993 album "Zooropa"
Please listen to the album from start to finish….a musical mind trip really…U2”s best after the Joshua Tree
Tune. Best heartbreak / break up song ever.
Look for "in a little while", by U2
U2, should start your U2 Journey with the WAR album then go from there. I have been to see U2 7 -8 times Philly and NYC.........1st 2 albums are kinda ahh,,ok so WAR is the 3rd and my favorite.........fuckin enjoy dig deep.............

@@NicknLexAnyway, enjoy 😀
Anything from Acting Baby or Joshua Tree is a good listen. I really like One from Acting Baby. Very nice guitar work from The Edge.
should hear the Temple Bar remix of this song. More Acoustic style
my favorite album
Great, great band! I'm ready Bono's book now, called "Surrender". Great book. Bono is amazing. Check out "The Fly" from this album. it's more rocking. By the way, at this time in their career, they were working with Brian Eno a lot so their sound reflects that. Also check out "Bullet the Blue Sky"! Killer.
Nice song! I really enjoy some U2 every so often. For some reason I never really connected with them! I do respect them and enjoy them in small doses! Really enjoyable video!
You need to listen to One from the same album Achtung Baby. Personal favourite of mine also Exit from the Joshua Tree. Also more Pearl Jam please
Achtung Baby is a timeless masterpiece. Try Ultraviolet from the same album.
U2 live is fantastic.
If you enjoy Lemon, check out the Sydney performance from Zoo TV. The lads are top form there.
Y’all should watch U2 zoo tv live in Sydney peak concert!!!
