I think that two things can be true. First, the entire group was awesome as a group and as individual musicians. Second, Steve is a remarkable singer. Together they were incredible. But Steve is the voice of Journey 🙂 and always will be.
Thank you gram. I have a ton of things on my heart to say but what you said, really boils down to that. Class of '82 by the way. Seen Journey with SP 4 times. Woohoo!!
You said it…. Journey will always be the best! Steve Perry is the Voice and l was there to enjoy it from the beginning! I still listen just about every day
Stay awhile is an absolute favorite song for me. Sing it to me Steve. I’m still crushing on him. So amazing. So many songs...so many years now being a diehard fan of Journey. There is no Journey for me without Steve Perry. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Neal Schon is an amazing guitar player. Neal and Steve were a great match for each other in their talents, resulting in great music. Steve, what can I say,,, a voice like no other.
You don't have to take back what you said, Hap, about Steve Perry. You are correct: Without him, the band would not have survived. The band had been told just before Steve joined that it was in danger of being dropped by the label because their albums weren't selling. Period. Steve joined the band and gave it his distinct sound, and the band stared selling out arenas. Secret sauce? Steve Perry's voice.
Steve actually wrote Lights when he was broke and trying to get a break in L.A. It was supposed to be a jingle for morning news. The original lyric was "when the sun shines in L.A." When he moved to San Francisco to join Journey, he changed it to "when the sun shines on the bay".
I love Journey with Steve Perry and I love your reactions to their music. Those reactions were what brought me to your channel so keep 'em coming! If you want another great live performance try "Still They Ride" from Tokyo 1983. I heard Steve was sick with the flu at the time but he still put on a great show.
Let's not forget🤦the legendary Freddie Mercury 👼! Steve how many times, even when he was dieing he performed! The Great Steve Perry has a beautiful voice which I love 💕! Fantastic reaction Hap!
I've had the pleasure of seeing journey with perry 1983 miami baaeball stadium, sold out 70,000 plus it was genaral admission by the time journey came on I had managed to get about fifteen feet or so from the stage, so mr perry is actually the only singer ive seen that is actually better live than in the studio, he's also the only singer in the world that has the octave range that he does, if you compare the greatest singers in the world to mr perry he actual soars above all of them, no one and I emphasize no one can out sing steve perry period!!
Good for you! The song Stay Awhile is my favorite song! Steve Perry could sing the phone book anything and I would know that voice! There is NO COMPARISON! He is a LEGEND! Love what you are doing never judge a book by its cover cause you will miss all the stuff that's on the inside kinda like you said! ❤
My two favorite songs by Journey! My favorite band...hands down. I'm in my 60's and I've followed them from day one. I've even still got their first album. "Infinity"!!!
What a wonderful reaction Hap! 🔥💥 I love Journey and Lights/Stay Awhile is one of their best. 🎶🎸🎤 There is nothing like the purity of Steve Perry's voice. He can do a run of notes like no one else. They may have a new singer, Arnel Pineda now, and he sounds similar, but he doesn't have the same vocal quality. "Be Good to Yourself" or "After the Fall" would be great follow-ups to this. Peace J ✌ ☮ 💕
❤❤❤I haven't heard this song in A looong time but yet I could sing along word for word lol brings me back to my high school days. What teenage girl didnt have a crush on Steve Perry🥰, you are right the whole group is amazing. Thanks for sharing😍
These songs are from the 70's and Gregg Rollie was the singer and pianist/keyboard and Neil Schon the guitars both were in the group Santana Gregg was the singer and pianist pianist and the keyboardist and Neil was very shy and used to hide till they left Santana, and started Journey .Much love 💘
Steve was the organizational glue that propelled the band into a supergroup. Don't apologize. You're right. He was considered difficult to work with because he did have a vision for the group and it's music.
2 songs from 2 different years, and yet! They both fit so well together!! Lights was brought to us in 1978, and Stay Awhile was brought to in 1980!!! Lights, was the very first song that I ever heard from Journey!! However, I didn't know who they were until 1980!! And I've been a long time ever since (1978)!!!
I just love me some Journey!! Been a big fan for 40 years!! Really appreciate the younger generation that play them. Brings back some great memories ❤❤ thanks hap..❤❤❤
That VOICE, Steve Perry' with that captivating sound. Love the way he sings these songs almost like a lullaby, so smooth. HAP, wonderful, sincere reaction. Loved it!! 💜🎵💜🎵
I think the special sauce of Journey was Steve Perry, but without the core song writer group of Jonathan Cain, Steve Perry and Neal Schon, they would just be another band. Those three know how to write a hit.
Excellent reaction, HAP! I worked swing shift in SF when this song was released in 1978. Gads, I loved it whenever it came on the radio just as I was crossing the Bay Bridge into "the city". Steve Perry's voice matched the beauty of the city lights at night.
Wonderful reaction ! I agreed Journey isn’t the same without Steve. This man is perfection. I raised on Journey when my dad and mom used to listen them and I still do to this day.
A beautiful song, almost as if it is floating away😊. Wonderful guitar playing🎸. I often have the feeling that in these past days the live music without auto-tune had more soul.🤩 Thank you for the great reaction, as always. Just right to start the weekend.🙋🏻♀️
That was beautiful! I think I will have to check out the Journey playlist because like Queen I'm sure they have songs I've heard over the years that will make me say...oh yeah I remember that!!!🤩
Love this song. When I think of Journey this is usually the song I think of. No idea why but it just is. Never really noticed this. He has an unusual low forehead. The things you notice in the middle of the night....
True story ….my husband bought us tickets to go to one of the Journey concerts in the late 90’s and when we got there and found out it wasn’t Steve Perry that would be singing …..we left !!
Listen to wheel in the sky by Journeys performance live in Osaka 1980 video was posted by EwerLord. Steve Perry does an awesome vocal riff and run at the beginning of the song. He’s is an amazing vocalist!!
Nice choice! I like that you appreciate the smallest of details! Thank you for sharing!❤️🇺🇸They we’re AMAZING to see. You sound sinus-ey. Hope your health is good.
This is my favorite Journey song. I'm from NorCal- not "The City", as we call San Francisco- but from the other bay - the Monterey Bay. And God, I miss it!
Try Journey's , Of A Lifetime, and Feeling That Way/Anytime, Just the Same Way for a few of the songs that were written by and best feature Greg Rollie, their original keyboard and vocalist. Enjoy!
Another group that was totally out of mind for me. You just stirred the embers. Thanks to Debra S. for the direct request and for your reaction. Insightful, as always.
I agree. Journey without Steve is pretty flat and, from their lack of hits since he left, many people feel that way. I have to say I've always been a fan of Steve, rather than the band. It was very troubling when he became a recluse, which makes it even better that he's back. One in a million.
I hope he stays in the public eye, there was a recent incident that could send him back into hiding. Bernie Taupin has written his memoirs, and Steve, being modest and humble, didn't think of himself as a VIP who would have his "people" make arrangements to attend a book signing, he just went down to the bookstore all by himself and sat on a bench outside to wait for the event to begin. The security guard in charge of the door soon noticed a ruckus starting outside and sent a girl out to see what was happening. She snagged a autograph for her husband before she told security what was going on out there. He was rescued and escorted inside and plopped down in VIP seating. He was wearing his rattiest old khaki jacket that he thinks makes him incognito, his fans have come to recognize it immediately.
@@nancywyatt821 Thanks for sharing this, Nancy. I have been disturbe by incursions into his privacy, including whne a tour bus stopped and interrupted his lunch with a companion. People need to be nore respectful. I know I am. I've never run into Steve on the streets of Toronto, but I did run right into Jon Bon Jovi inmy old neighbourhood. And I let him walk by without causing a scene. So did the rest of the people on the sidewalk.
It was a different world back then. Plus, there are cameras everywhere! She may have been a "plant" someone picked ahead of time. In theatre it's done often.
No need to take back your comment IMHO. Steve's voice is the best instrument in the band along with the rest for sure but without him, it's just not the same. This will always be my favorite band but only with Steve.
I think that two things can be true. First, the entire group was awesome as a group and as individual musicians. Second, Steve is a remarkable singer. Together they were incredible. But Steve is the voice of Journey 🙂 and always will be.
I agree 💯 %
Thank you gram. I have a ton of things on my heart to say but what you said, really boils down to that. Class of '82 by the way. Seen Journey with SP 4 times. Woohoo!!
Nailed it!
You said it….
Journey will always be the best!
Steve Perry is the Voice and l was there to enjoy it from the beginning!
I still listen just about every day
Absolutely! The 81 Houston tour line up for the Escape album was the best.
No one on earth like Steve Perry, The Voice. Just nobody. ❤
Sometimes you just gotta sit back and listen to greatness. Steve Perry’s unreal
Hey, no way Steve is my man! I’m still in love with that boy! He can’t ever get too old for me to be in love with him! Holla at your girl Steve!❤❤
I completely agree, Steve Perry made Journey so special. Without him, it's just not the same. Such an amazing talent.
Now they are just a glorified cover band!
Shear perfection, that Steve sang at this level night after night 100+ shows a year is mind blowing. Wheel in the Sky from this concert is a BANGER!
Thank you!!!! There IS no Journey without Steve Perry!!! I agree! ❤️🎶 THE Voice!!!
I love, love, love Steve Perry, he is the greatest male singer ever, smooth as silk....He joined Journey and carried them to mega stardom..
Neal Schon is an amazing guitar player. Neal and Steve were a great match for each other in their talents, resulting in great music.
Steve, what can I say,,, a voice like no other.
And Neil is still playing today in 2023!
Steve is , plain and simple, a soul singer.
And Greg Rollie was still in the band here- this is Steve Perry about at his peak- the voice!!
Steve actually wrote Lights when he was broke and trying to get a break in L.A. It was supposed to be a jingle for morning news. The original lyric was "when the sun shines in L.A." When he moved to San Francisco to join Journey, he changed it to "when the sun shines on the bay".
There will never ever be another Steve Perry. My favorite song ever.
He’s simply the best
You should listen to Walks like a Lady from this same concert. Awesome! Thanks for returning to Journey and Steve. Always enjoy your insights 🎶
I agree..it is amazing.
I love that freaking song!
One of my all time favorite bands, thanks Steve Perry!!! ❤️❤️
Greatest voice of my youth , ….
Every time I see him I just get all mushy. I love his voice and will never get tired of hearing it
I couldn't agree more, there is no Journey without Steve Perry. I've seen Journey twice never would I see Journey, without Steve.
Steve Perry is the first bite of the cake a la mode
I love Journey with Steve Perry and I love your reactions to their music. Those reactions were what brought me to your channel so keep 'em coming! If you want another great live performance try "Still They Ride" from Tokyo 1983. I heard Steve was sick with the flu at the time but he still put on a great show.
I read the same thing about him being sick. Incredible!
@@gram5751 I know! If I had the flu I wouldn't even want to talk never mind rock out on stage! A true pro, I love Steve Perry!
Let's not forget🤦the legendary Freddie Mercury 👼! Steve how many times, even when he was dieing he performed! The Great Steve Perry has a beautiful voice which I love 💕! Fantastic reaction Hap!
I’m just down the road in Santa Cruz……love Steve Perry.❤️He knows true ❤️love. He expresses it so genuinely! I saw them at the Cow Palace in 1982❤️
I've had the pleasure of seeing journey with perry 1983 miami baaeball stadium, sold out 70,000 plus it was genaral admission by the time journey came on I had managed to get about fifteen feet or so from the stage, so mr perry is actually the only singer ive seen that is actually better live than in the studio, he's also the only singer in the world that has the octave range that he does, if you compare the greatest singers in the world to mr perry he actual soars above all of them, no one and I emphasize no one can out sing steve perry period!!
I love how they always write songs about being on the road and how they miss home or their loved ones! Journey one of the greatest bands!😀🎶🎵🎸
I saw them live and they sounded phenomenal! Stevie is a brilliant singer song writer. All time favorite.
2 of my favorite songs from Journey. Still They Ride is another good onw
My two favorite songs by Journey! My favorite band...hands down. I'm in my 60's and I've followed them from day one. I've even still got their first album. "Infinity"!!!
Dude had some pipes
He is the cream… let’s never forget this music. I was grown with kids but it directed them. Thank you Hap 💜

Another amazing live performance by Journey
Music makes the world go round.🎵

Steve sounds particularly amazing here ❤️
2 songs from 2 different years, and yet! They both fit so well together!! Lights was brought to us in 1978, and Stay Awhile was brought to in 1980!!!
Lights, was the very first song that I ever heard from Journey!! However, I didn't know who they were until 1980!! And I've been a long time ever since (1978)!!!
It is pronounced "O-Sa-Ka". 2nd largest city in Japan, and a great place to visit, if you ever have a chance.
Just lovely! 🎶😊
To witness this GREATNESS Live, was a COMPLETE HONOR!!☺️ BEST CONCERTS EVERRRR!!!🎉❤
Thank you!!! Every song from this Osaka concert is on YT. Walks Like a Lady should be next. Love your reactions.
Journey reactions are what brought me to your channel! Love them! Thanks for a beautiful reaction and brightening my Friday ❤
The best period

I think the special sauce of Journey was Steve Perry, but without the core song writer group of Jonathan Cain, Steve Perry and Neal Schon, they would just be another band. Those three know how to write a hit.
Except Cain had nothing to do with these 2 songs. These great songs were Perry and Schon.....and Rollie. No Cain.
Excellent reaction, HAP! I worked swing shift in SF when this song was released in 1978. Gads, I loved it whenever it came on the radio just as I was crossing the Bay Bridge into "the city". Steve Perry's voice matched the beauty of the city lights at night.
I been saying it for years Journey put a couple very good singers out front, BUT Journey without Steve Perry is just a cover band.
Wonderful reaction ! I agreed Journey isn’t the same without Steve. This man is perfection. I raised on Journey when my dad and mom used to listen them and I still do to this day.
A beautiful song, almost as if it is floating away😊. Wonderful guitar playing🎸. I often have the feeling that in these past days the live music without auto-tune had more soul.🤩

...One of the greatest voices in rock...bar none
That was beautiful! I think I will have to check out the Journey playlist because like Queen I'm sure they have songs I've heard over the years that will make me say...oh yeah I remember that!!!🤩
...the "voice"is awesome, but the entire band is also extraordinary
Love journey with Steve " the voice " Perry! Thank you Hap. 👏👏👏👏
Patty-I did see them live in 1986 . A night i won't ever forget.
They were great in 1982!❤️
Lights is one of my all time favorites.
Love this song. When I think of Journey this is usually the song I think of. No idea why but it just is. Never really noticed this. He has an unusual low forehead. The things you notice in the middle of the night....
Low hairline then, not anymore...
100 percent LIVE
Please react to Journey's Little Girl. Steve's vocals are so EMOTIONAL.
Steve é o melhor!!!😊😊😊
True story ….my husband bought us tickets to go to one of the Journey concerts in the late 90’s and when we got there and found out it wasn’t Steve Perry that would be singing …..we left !!

Steve Perry and Journey-Be Good to Yourself- I’ll Be Alright Without You -Why Can’t This Night Go On Forever

Fantastic Reaction! ♥️🔥♥️
Great reaction! ❤ Journey!
Wow amazing always Mr Perry it's Soo pogi awesome ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️👍 👍👍
If that had been an American woman, she would have pulled Steve right off the stage = LOL!!
My favorite
The 70s with Greg Rollie on keyboard is my best journey. If you like the 80s it's a different guy named Cain on keyboard.
This is my favorite Journey song. I'm from NorCal- not "The City", as we call San Francisco- but from the other bay - the Monterey Bay. And God, I miss it!
Ur right Steve is d Journey , w/out Steve theres no Journey ,love this man ❤❤😂

Found your channel and found you playing
My fav band, journey.

Steve was pulling an Elvis there kissing the girl!!! And let me tell you, The King, loved great singers! He would have loved Steve Perry!!!!!
Concert in Houston in 1981 and is a hundred times better. Love your channel. Thanks!!
Beautiful 😍 Thanks Hap! Great reaction as always

Hey Mr Perry don't stop believing Baby 😃😃😃😃😃❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Neal is incredible!!

I think Mr perry she's beautiful girl Soo many picture in Facebook like a girl Soo beautiful lady I love it ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️👍👍👍👍👍💯💯💯💯💯🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤

Without Perry, Journey is just a glorified cover band!
