I don't know what possessed you to create so detailed a video, but it was exactly what I needed to see to fix our toilet. (All I needed was a replacement gasket, and our neighborhood plumbing company was kind enough to give me just that one part.) I can only hope to pay my debt to you forward in some way. The world is a better place because of sharing souls like yourself. I salute you, sir.

I particularly appreciate that you showed the reality of how hard it can be to disassemble the parts. Some repair videos show things coming up easily which completely avoids the real problems one has with this kind of work.

Dude! I have spent 4 months turning the water off after ever bowl refilled because my water bill uncreased SEVERAL HUNDRED dollars in a month due to a super quiet overflow issue. I had replaced the flapper gasket and that didn’t work. The toilet and its guts are only 4 years old so I knew something needed cleaned I didn’t have to replace the whole piece. THANK YOU! This tutorial was perfect.

Thank you +++++ for the detailed instructions that allowed me to fix my toilet which wasn't filling properly. Thank you so much for this video. I was having issues with the water flow "pulsing" when refilling the tank, and after watching your video and inspecting my fill valve, it looks like the diaphragm cap had simply degraded. Cost me just $3.25 for a new part and you saved me over $100 vs hiring a plumber!

This video is the gift that keeps on giving. To fix mine I had to use a Korky R528 replacement cap that comes with a new diaphragm. Before attempting to clean it out it my valve made a faint hissing as the water was topping the drain pipe and the valve was constantly filling. After I removed the top diaphragm cover I found my diaphragm was red and attached to the underside of that cap. I broke the riser under the diaphragm by twisting it out with pliers. Mine had just a tab opposite the float holding it down, so lifting from the tab side would have unlocked it. Despite breaking that tab when I cleaned it and put it back together it worked better, but would still slowly fill like yours. Replacing the cap and diaphragm only cost a few dollars and fixed the valve leak. Thank you!

I have a similar Toto Universal Fill valve and it was filling very very slowly. I followed your instructions to a tee. The filter was filled with sediment. Once I got it all cleaned out, it runs like a champ again. Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video. I couldn't have done it without your instructions.

THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH FOR MAKING THIS VIDEO.My father just recently passed away and literally everything has gone wrong since then, including both the toilets continuously running the water. This walked me through it perfectly and now its fixed. It may not seem like a big thing to some people but for what I've been going through lately, it was a small miracle!

Thanks. Although the video could use some editing for time, it was really helpful. My Toto tank was sputtering every time it refilled. Thanks to this video, I was able to disassemble/reassemble the valve and solve the problem simply by cleaning the components. This saved us a lot of money, will make us stop worrying, and my wife will think I'm a hero.

I know others have already thanked you... but THANK YOU, again. My problem was a "gulping/screeching sound" when refilling the tank after the flush.
I thought I had to replace the whole fill value so I bought one for $26 at the local plumbing. Got home and realized my style Toto makes it virtually impossible to unscrew the nut as there's almost no access. I think I would have to remove the whole toilet! Anyways, I carefully watched your video.
There was some build up and a small metal piece in the filter. I just flushed 3 times and seems to have done the trick. I really appreciate all the detail and the patience in making the video and this saved my from hiring a plumber, and I can return the $26 replacement.

This is fantastic! 62 YO female here, first ever plumbing job! my toilet wasn't filling enough hence wouldn't almost flush, took a few flushes to even wash away soap! followed these rather detailed instructions and realized it was the red rubber gasket thingy that was finished. Went to HD (I'm in Canada) and they sold me the whole piece for $5. They don't have the full kit. I was lucky, put it all back together, got husband to help with the muscle of turning water on and off and TADA! it's working like new! I like the fact that he was a bit of a spaz cause I learned from his mistakes......well done!

Thanks so much--this was so very helpful! Always nice to see someone actually working their way through a project and all the glitches encountered and how you worked your way around them. Knowing I could take the flush valve cap off to see the float itself and how it was behaving helped me to set the height of the flush valve so that it wouldn't keep running and running. Turned out to be an easy fix! Seriously, many thanks!

A big thank you from me on posting this video! We had our home repiped and the corrosion sediment went all over the place and clogged up the fill valve of the toilet, which was a Toto, like in this video. Almost the same but the Toto I had had the green capped fill valve. The filter/noise reduction assembly lifts straight out thus no need to rotate it like in this video. The filter was clogged and needed to be cleaned. Again BIG THANK YOU for posting this!

Nice job on the video, appreciate it. I've worked on all different brands of fill valves before, but this was my first time working on a Toto. Spending some time watching your video told me exactly what I needed to know before tearing into a Toto fill valve. Armed with your info and new parts, it took me a whole.....10 minutes to basically rebuild my Toto fill valve. Only thing I would add, removing the flush lever is quick and simple. After you do, gives you just a little bit more working room.

15 year old Toto Drake was surging when toilet filled. Purchased a R528 replacement cap before beginning the process. The diaphragm was messed up. I cleaned everything up; replaced cap. Reattached hose (newer model so it came off; sorry yours didn't. Made the process much easier in the narrow confines). Seems to have worked perfectly thanks to your excellent video.

  • @carlosa.sanchez896

Long but well documented and helpful! I did all those steps, the blue cap on my Toto came off quite easily. After cleaning, flushing out, checking that little valve on the square fill tank bottom and making sure it let water flow both ways, I reassembled the unit and flushed the toilet. It STILL kept overflowing and wouldn't cut off, I was damn pissed off! So I ran to Lowe's and got a new Toto 528GT fill valve and changed it all out. I had to cut the old one off with a mini saw because the supply line connection under the tank was stuck on and wouldn't budge. So I also got a new 20" toilet tank supply line. Now it all works great and I was even able to reduce the tank fill volume a bit and still get a great flush!

A big 'thank you!" for taking the time to help us figure this out step by step. The video was awesome, and we really appreciate how you carefully reviewed/showed us each step. Here is what we found: the small rubber gasket (ours was red) seemed to be old and lifting from the edge (the edges were not flat down, but wrinkled up). We had bought an entire replacement unit, and took it apart to compare and check if it might be the culprit - seemed to be, so we replaced it. After putting the unit back together, presto - the toilet no longer leaks! Thank you again!

Great Job! As a result of your video, I bought a Korky replacement first, but I didn't open it.
I then took apart the old flush valve. The only things I can add is that I needed a bigger bowl under the toilet to collect the water once I unscrewed the nut! More water than I thought. A little less than 2 litres. It was very easy taking the thing apart once I took the flush valve out of the toilet. The cover came off quite easily. I did need pliers to get the head to rotate the 20 degrees. I found some hard iron deposits that were causing the flush valve to keep running. It is working fine now.
I can now take the Korky replacement back to Home Depot. THANKS!

Thanks for the helpful video. It took about 20 minutes to fix. My toilet would start filling about 1 to 2 minutes after each flush and then fill very slowly. It turns out that there was sediment in the white comblike filter. That slowed the water drain to initiate the filling cycle. Although the video was long, it saved me time/frustration/uncertainty during the repair since I'm a newbie at this stuff. I didn't even try removing the flexible tube. Saved money and time since I didn't have to go to the store, replace the fill valve, mop the floor, and recalibrate.

I really liked how you showed the first time through, even with the difficulties. Those are educational, too.

I know the video is long, but some things simply take a while to do. I appreciate you going through everything step by step and adjusting the camera as needed.

Thank you for making this video! Exactly what I needed… fixed my toilet in 10 minutes (after ordering the replacement part you called out).

Thanks for the detailed video. I got mine apart in less than 10 min. Unfortunately my rubber gasket was shot so ended upon having to get a replacement. The Korky Quiet Fill Platinum works just fine with a Toto ST784S toilet. Also picked up the Toto Universal flapper by Korky as my flapper was in sad shape. All good now!

Thanks very much for taking all the trouble to record every detail. On my own, I don't think I had a snowball's chance of getting it apart without breaking it. Sure enough, cleaned the bits and pieces as you showed us and voila no more funny shuddering noise when valve closes. Awesome sharing!!

Thank You! I also could not remove the tube and unscrewing the valve was also difficult. The entire valve sits lower in my toilet making is a little more difficult to access.I did remove the hose once free and cleaned everything. No apparent sediment or dirt. The only place with black dirt was the flimsy seal. Once reassembled, the toilet shut off. So this was extremely helpful!

Thank you for making this video. A single woman living on my own and the city had shut my water off because they were working on some pipes outside my house. Not only would my sink not work but my toilet then stopped working. And thankfully you made this video and I fixed my own toilet. My sink was much easier to fix just needed to take the cap off and rinse out all the sediment after that my sink worked just fine

Excellent video: I had no idea why my toilet would not fill up until I saw your video. Thanks for creating it and showing those of us who own Toto toilets how to fix the flush valve. However, I think I'll just replace the flush valve after seeing all of the trouble you went through to disassemble it.

Thank you for helping me replace the diaphragm cap on my Toto. Without your advice I would not have known how to dissemble the fill valve system The replace valve works well and the Toto no longer runs continuously..

Excellent video. Cleaned out my fill valve and good to go. Most helpful was knowing to turn the top to release it. Thank you!

This was super helpful to me. Fortunately my unit turned and moved more like it was supposed to. I found a ton of freaky looking egg shaped sediment in the white feather shaped filter ... What the hell were those? Like tiny Amber beads ... Looked like insect eggs ... But didn't have a smell. I cleaned that out and it worked fine! I probably saved $130 - because we would've called a plumber to repair it (my wife was ready to call). Thank you so much for the video. You saved me a C note, my friend!

My toilet would not fill after my well ran dry and sediment got into my water supply. Your video, painful though it was to watch, made it possible for me to clean out the Toto valve. I could never have figured it out myself. Thanks!

Not sure if it was the ball floater or the robber tab, but after watching the video and flipping the tab and cleaning the ball, it seems to be fixed. Thanks. I enjoyed watching the difficulties you had taking it apart. I had the same problems.

Unfortunately, the fix did not work. What's the link to your video for installing a replacement.

I replaced the fill tube and eventually also replaced the flapper. In the end, I'm not sure that was the problem in the first place. Thanks again for the videos.

This was the first time I had ever taken apart a toilet and put it back together again. So thanks! Gaskets were old and slimy and not holding suction. Cleaning got it down to all but a trickle.
