  • Take a look at some of these beautiful Ricefish!! These are different varieties of Japanese Ricefish which are also known as Medaka. I've not really been big into Medaka ricefish but now I've started to appreciate these fish much more. Medaka can be found in the wild here in Japan and it's amazing how professional breeders breed these fish to have such stunning and vibrant colors.

I think it would be fun to do a few more biotope style ponds for ricefish in the future whether it be a ceramic pot pond or a rubber liner pond in the ground. Excited 😅 Here’s one that I did a while back: ua-cam.com/video/1mfvCQBcjks/v-deo.html

I just received 6 platinum rice fish. I am going to transfer them to a 16 inch diameter white bowl with a dragon design. The bowl will be planted. Thank you Ryo for your promotion of these wonderful fish and your great video skills. Your family should be proud of you. I’m 75 and it has been many years since I enjoyed the aquarium hobby. Im so excited!

Whoa!! I had no idea there was that many different varieties. So many gorgeous ones. The ones with the koi patterns are my favorite. I’ve never seen those here in the states before

Same, I have been watching you and Cory breed the Platinum and gold but all those colors are making my head hurt. I have a question for you both, how do you think they would do with koi? I have a big koi pond with other smaller fish I thought it would be cool to breed ricefish in their too since they can overwinter.

I currently am breeding together Youkihis and Pearl Galaxies.
Very prolific breeders and the fry are so cute when you first see them swimming around on their own. Seeing them start as a egg and seeing their eyes in the egg and maybe a week later you have little fry smaller then a grain of rice swimming around.
Very pleasing first egg laying experience.

It got me into keeping Youkihi and Pearl Galaxy Medaka.
So far I have a bunch of fry in a separate gallon jar as a grow out until they get larger. They are soo small when they hatch, my first 2 hatchlings are about the size of new born guppy fry, maybe a little larger and they swim around happily with fry the size of smaller than a grain of rice.
