Him getting hurt was the most disappointing thing to happen this year. It was like watching a Cleveland car wreck every weekend 😂 We won't see play that bad again for a long time, he made Mark Sanchez and Johnny Football look decent.
A few weeks ago in response to comments about his awful play, Desean Watson's response was that he wasn't concerned. "I'm Desean Watson." I laughed uproariously at that. The attitude that led to his legal problems.
Watson's contract is going to be an eye-opener when it comes to how NFL teams can bend the salary cap to their will. This contract and his injury should basically bankrupt this organization, but when all is said and done, it will not. Mark my words if Watson does anything that saves the Browns money i.e. medically retires, it's because he has been offered something under the table, and the NFL is helping to make the deal.
I don’t even think it’s an eye opener. Even when the contract was announced, it was pretty clearly a HIGHLY risky contract. I seriously don’t think any other team would have offered that at the time.
@Alexnader8788 The eye-opener I speak about will be how the Browns all but completely negate the dead money. People think the remaining money will be devastating to the Browns' cap, but if we have learned anything from NFL, it's the fact that their accountants have mastered ways around it.
Bengals fan here. Our team seems to have an unusual amount of high profile injuries that either happen to us, or the opposing team when we play them. Krumrie, Palmer, Antonio Brown, Keith Rivers, Tua, Hamlin, and now Watson. Just to name a few!
I've noticed that, too. And like you said, that list isn't even close to complete. Bo Jackson, Ickey Woods, David Pollack, Joe Burrow, hell even going back as far as Greg Cook. I'm sure it's just selective awareness--watching mostly Bengals games, it stands to reason that most injuries I witness and remember would happen during Bengals games--but still. Seems inordinately high.
The problem is guaranteed contracts. Stop guaranteeing millions to these players and let them perform to earn their keep. 50M guaranteed is still a truckload of money!

As a Lions fan, I think the only good thing that Deshaun Watson has done in the 2020's was beating the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving Day. Why is that? That led to the team afterwards firing Matt Patricia, and led to them hiring Dan Campbell, and turning this franchise around So thanks for that, Watson, you horrible creep
As a fellow Broncos fan who suffered through the Wilson debacle it's so refreshing to get back to talking about the Browns as the paragon of mismanagement.
The craziest thing about this is that Deshaun Watson is STILL ranked #6 in highest career passer rating in NFL HISTORY. That's after he's dropped slightly the past couple of years. Supposedly the Texans implemented an offense similar to Watson's college offense and Stefanski refused to do the same, with all the injuries and suspensions, I guess he just never got the chance to learn a pro style offense. Honestly one of the craziest career arcs in nfl history. This year is just so full of examples reminding us that QB's are HIGHLY dependent on their surroundings. You cannot take a qb out of one situation, put him in another, and expect the same results. The NFL also needs to go back to the days of sitting their rookie qb's for a year or two instead of throwing them into the fire immediately. Yeah SOME rookies keep up but most don't and then they get shat on for sucking when a lot of them simply need more development. Go back and look at Josh Allen's or Lamar Jackson's rookie years vs. later years. These are two of the most talented QB's in the league and they were mediocre as rookies.

that the kicker for me. the guy had off field issue before the contract so why the brown slip in a let bail clause a lot sooner. 2 to 3 years to prove himself with an extension if he manage to showcase his talent if he did well. that contract had too many years on a qb that could end up in jail at any point during his stay. such a bad contract that it has at least 2 more years before the brown can wash their hands

Should have kept Baker and lots of us said it at the time. He was a gamer. Won CLE its first playoff game in the "new Browns" era. OBJ said Baker had a such a strong arm catchin' his passes hurt. I love seeing Baker succeed.
In a parallel universe, the Browns keep their incumbent QB and don't squander three 1sts to get a QB with character issues. You can actually view this parallel universe ... it's the movie "Draft Day". (And yes, they did make that trade in the beginning ... but by the end, they fixed all their mistakes.)
you forgot to mention in the deep dive that in houston they had to run the clemson offense because it was the only one that worked, you can see when he moves to a different offense he just sucks.
In Watsons defense. A good coach should always play to the strengths of his players. If he understands Clemsona offense. Use that and build variation. Not a Watson defender though. Don’t SA women.
As a browns fan, i hated this trade. Imagine if we had Baker with this roster last year or this year. They could've gone at least a game into the playoffs last year. But i also hate that other teams are just forgotten on who was willing to pay this ransom
Hey man, I've been watching for a couple years and I just want to say it looks like your having the most amount of fun this year and it's great to watch. Keep it up, I'm not gonna subscribe tho
The Browns beat the Ravens today. It’s very possible that the Browns wasted this entire season by starting Deshaun Watson instead of just going with a backup the whole time. This is not the first time this has happened as Joe Flacco led them to the playoffs last season and they still traded him so they could start Watson this season. What’s even funnier is they very well might do it again. The Browns have what it takes to be a potential contender and the team ownership/Deshaun continue to squander that opportunity.
I just don’t think this situation was completely unknown. Like, predator behavior escalates over time. Watson had to be doing some shenanigans in Clemson. It just makes sense. Maybe not to the same severity as we have heard recently, but he was probably building up to what we know now.
I think Stefanski was being forced to start him. So he's probably getting fired after this year. Haslam actually had something special here and his meddling has blown it up so badly that a huge chunk of what was an unshakably loyal fanbase is so done that we don't care if they move the team out of Cleveland again. I'm a Bucs fan until he either dies or sells the team. He's the new Dan Snyder. Fuck Haslam.
Bryce Young, Russell Wilson and Trey Lance are not quite as bad as the Desean Watson trade. But they are all up there. At least the Niners bumbled their way into Brock Purdy.
Between this and the Russell Wilson trade. Teams will have learned their lesson. Buying franchise QB's with a ton of draft capital is no guarantee of success.
Reminder that Jameis Winston has also had to settle MULTIPLE sexual assault suits himself. Idk if he is gonna really win back any good will in Cleveland. Well, other than the amoral a-holes who will be willing to ignore that if he does well
The truth is, him getting hurt is the best thing that could have happened. It is the better option to pay him not to play at this point. Haslam, not understanding football forced a spread QB on a coach that focuses on under center play action offense. Its like Haslam saw the Browns on the precipice of being a respectable organization and just could not stand for it.

And TONS of Browns fans, myself included, HATED the trade and turned my back on the Browns every time Watson was on the field. Lot's of Browns fans did not deserve this.
The Browns and QB issues, a story as old as time. They drafted a good QB in Baker and fumbled that horribly despite having good players on D and offense.
it’s so weird because it’s a situation where you can’t even feel bad for the browns, like you trade for a perv ON TOP OF THE FACT he was going to go almost two years without playing (or even practicing)
As a Jags fan who knows nothing but eternal suffering, I felt a sense of camaraderie for the Browns when they went 0-16. I cheered when they finally won a game the next season.
That being said, I’m going to thoroughly enjoy watching this organization nosedive into the ground for seasons to come.
After what they did to Baker to try and sell Watson to the fans, they deserve every bit of this.

Yeah but Winston could still end up the starter. Then it would just be more of the same.

But but but these are essential people to society. Screw firemen, nurses, electricians. We need people who can do good things with a ball in a rigged gambling sport with an injury report
Which sport is the worst for locking teams into bad contracts they regret later? Basketball?
One thing that makes it worse is that it makes guaranteed money harder to come by for every other player.
Absolutely ended his career, not just his time with the Browns.
He’s not good enough to be a starter, is injury prone, doesn’t have the experience to be a viable backup and no team wants the baggage he brings.

As a Lions fan, I think the only good thing that Deshaun Watson has done in the 2020's was beating the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving Day. Why is that? That led to the team afterwards firing Matt Patricia, and led to them hiring Dan Campbell, and turning this franchise around
So thanks for that, Watson, you horrible creep
As a fellow Broncos fan who suffered through the Wilson debacle it's so refreshing to get back to talking about the Browns as the paragon of mismanagement.
Watson is a horrible QB and an even worse human being. Texans GM is a genius for that trade.
No player deserves to fail as much as Deshaun Watson. It's truly wonderful to see
The craziest thing about this is that Deshaun Watson is STILL ranked #6 in highest career passer rating in NFL HISTORY.

I just wonder, how the Sam Hill did he get that HUGE contract with all that guaranteed money?? Somebody make it make sense.
that the kicker for me. the guy had off field issue before the contract so why the brown slip in a let bail clause a lot sooner. 2 to 3 years to prove himself with an extension if he manage to showcase his talent if he did well. that contract had too many years on a qb that could end up in jail at any point during his stay. such a bad contract that it has at least 2 more years before the brown can wash their hands

All of his fundamentals just look trash, from his drop back to his release. That big guaranteed money kind of stole.his incentive to try hard
