Nice video. Saw your Anno money making video as well. Very interesting :) Also, it is very neatly organized and presented making it easy and fun! By the way, the trade route pathfinding change on the map is a really good tip. I didn't know about that!
Update 18hrs later. I am now making a profit of 600+ and I’ve settled another island. I watched his other video on how to make money and learned how to trade. Slowly but steadily. I haven’t even gotten to artisans yet but I’ve been constructing and modeling my island. Whew thank goodness for Icy!!
First Anno game. Got lucky, built a church and started getting soap. Slammed my income into 300. Bought some shares, upgraded some houses, and sold many schooners to make an income of 800+. Still working on it.
If you hold shift before clicking accept the goods will only be loaded if the island has more then the set amount to load. meaning if you set it to 30 and the island has 40 the ship will load 10.
but there is no option to cap my sellings, isnt it? lets say i want to sell my excess soup, but i dont want to deplete my goods, because it will make my workers unhappy. so can i tell my trading routes to balance it, just like in my main base?
Can't believe the game leaves out a TON of explanation on how to play it - even when you pick heavy guidance. Could not understand why I kept getting the red warning with 'this item never gets unloaded'... Until now. Game is good, but lack of in-game explanation is unbelievable.
I somewhat agree. I went forever in first playthrough wondering when Trading Posts were going to unlock in the build menu so I could go set up on another island. Had no idea any ship with a few lumber & steel beams can set one up without any prerequisites (other than needing to get steel production going, of course). By the time I saw this in someone's YT video, lol, most of the choice islands in both worlds had already been gobbled up by Beryl.
I started using airships that I send manually to islands to pick up the highest value items I can get to trade for as much as I can. Would be nice if there was a buy anything option tho so it can just bring whatever if it constantly changes the item goods. 8 slot cargo cuts down on how many transport vehicles I needed to send out.
You explained it really good. Thank you very much! I just started with Anno 1800 today and was unsure if I automaticly trade when I have the trade right with someone. Like if this is just a passive income or if I have to do something. Thank you
The only question but very important question from me is this...... Let's say I am making 4 snaps on one island but that island only demands 2, while on another island I need 2 snaps to fulfill demands. How can I figure out how many I can send with my ships? If I only send 2 at a time it wont cover their needs, and the ship takes time to go from 1 island to the other, so how can I calculate how much surplus I will have from when the ship leaves and until it comes back to pick up more? Hope my question made sense. And also how do you suggest making concrete if my iron mines are already making weapons or sewing machines?
Yo, awesome video. Thanks for the explanation. Could you make a tutorial about the option to move people around the island, heared about that, not sure if it real. Thanks buddy.
I know it's a bit of an older video - but have you ever considered whether wind might affect trade efficiency? Especially since you can set up directions between destinations, which is obvious to use to avoid patrols or pirates. But might also benefit if there's a certain way the wind tends to go to create favorable speeds.
OK so there is something that I don't get yet: Why should I use trade routes at all? When you click on the resources in your storage you can select a specific amount of that resources that you always want to have in your storage. The AI will then AUTOMATICALLY sell all excess resources until you hit that specified amount and it will also buy the resources for you until you hit the specified amount. The AI will use their own ships for this. You don't have to micro manage Trade Routes at all and still get the resources you need and the money from trade. So what is the point of organizing these routes? Is it more efficient? Do I get more money that way? Is it faster? There has to be some purpose to it, I'm sure that I just didn't get it yet. If anyone could answer me this please. that would be great.
When you use trade routes, it is transferring goods from one port to another to supply your one island or another. (Mostly to supply one island or another. ie. soap to one island that don't produce (or if you choose not to produce because you want to maximise desirability in one island, or where one island cannot produce it at all like copper or coal or limestone) Setting the 'selling excess' is to generate cash for yourself, so this does not move goods from one of your islands to another. The charter routes are to 'pay a neutral ship' to help you transfer goods from one of your islands to another and can only carry one type of good (This gets expensive towards the late game because each is 50 cash(not much) AND 5 reputation (This is the costly bit because everything high end needs reputation in late game) The organising is important because in late game, when you own like 5 or 6 islands across both the New and Old World, things can get rather messy to manage all the goods. Especially in the New World where you might want to make 'intra-New World routes' like supplying coffee or bananas in all your islands in New World'. This is especially important because space is really limited (everything in the new world is a farm-extensive resource or another so you can't maximise one without another farm). And you also need to supply luxuries like Rum or Coffee or Gold to the Old world to produce gold bars or supply your higher tier residences. Without organisation you'll find yourself on a click frenzy finding out which route is which (remember at later stages you also need to protect your routes by escorting a frigate or gunboat or two on your important routes from pirates and enemies (espeically your Rum and Oil routes). I hope this lengthy post helps.
i never comment on you tube. even if i value the content immensely .. i just recently subscribed to your channel for anno 1800 content. i love this game and to be fair i was only here for you how to make money because I keep having the defeat pop up due to well basically everything in your how to video.. so thank you for that. at first i was not overly impressed with your content on anno 1800's how to trade video.. I was seriously considering unsubscribing but i thought no the how to money video was really good just keep watching.. well Icyymike you have a subscriber for life now. i learned more about what i was doing wrong in your trade video then i realized. i am sorry i did not give you the chance at first especially when your how to money video taught me so much.. THANK YOU!!!! keep up the good work..
i learned a lot about your tutorial how to earn money, now i am learning more about traderoutes overhere.... i build my first museum!! thx. before your videos it was game over all the times!
thanks man id like to see more tips and tricks. maybe efficient sctructuring, cause ive seen people do weird building blocks that are meant to be efficient but i dont really get why
Couldn't find income and expenses. I'm currently in debt and I have no idea how to get it back up, but also... trying to sell... things aren't being sold fast enough -.-' so if I understand correctly you can sell manually by trading, but that might also mean they won't buy cause they don't need it. -.-' Also no idea for how much selling or buying
I just started the video so you might answer the question I'm about to ask. What is the effect of trading other than getting and giving resources with player controlled allies? I don't see a dollar amount for trading as I do on some of the NPCs. Thanks!
thank you for uploding this video was really helful not the same can be said abaut upaly forum suport, all i got from there was a "answer" + "p.s. im not a gramer nazi but you should make a bit of effort on blablabla" i didn't knew what to do, was struguling to satisfay enginirs with glasses and yousing 3 ships for 150coins+1 of my own to keep the citizens happy
On the trading screen, there is button in the middle to switch between regions. Everything else works the same. So pick your port from one region, then the second port in another region.
Nice video! Juste one thing, I’ve noticed you can sell anything to anybody even though they don’t request it, I’ve been selling my surplus of planks and other basic stuff to other AI. But this begs the question, what’s the difference between requested items and other ones?
Lets say the clothes are too much and the soap sells for too little. First off how does one see those #'s. 2nd, I'd want to tell the game to stop buying clothes when they hit $50 in price. How does one tell the game what my purchase limits are?
Short summary: Trade routes in Anno 1800 are pretty bad. Trade ships will happily go into enemy port. You can set way points for local routes only. Ships to other regions can only have a dummy port destination to act as a waypoint. NPC trading is more hassle than its worth since what they accept changes all the time. Good guide though
Yeah, this maybe a future topic on this channel. In general, building more houses and keeping happiness up keeps them full thus more taxes (income). When you upgrade tiers it requires a large amount of other goods to keep them happy again, so keep this in mind before upgrading. You want a very large surplus before upgrading. Lastly, maximize your production efficiency, only build what you need to keep them happy. Anything more is a loss due to the maintenance. Hope that helps!
@@IcyyMike this is how I feel about it, but doesn't that ruin the trading? It's not worth creating a surplus of a product to trade because you'd rather not pay the maintenance. Maybe I'm not trading the right stuff yet.
I am addicted to Anno. That is all.
Does items have specific price when you sell them ? when you sell 5 soaps, how much you sell them for ?
